Talk about uncovering repressed memories. While browsing YouTube yesterday, I came across this all-too-familiar commercial. So maybe the '80s really are back.
I'm embarrassed to admit that not only did I see this ad as a kid and think, "Wow! That looks so cool!" — I shamelessly cajoled my parents into buying it for my birthday present. Then, when the pink prize was in my hands, I crimped everything in sight. (The cat was lucky to escape my fervent crimping campaign; Barbie, alas, was not so lucky, and her hair melted quickly.)
So if this brings back some awkward memories, it's not meant to shame you. Instead, think of this ad as a chance to put them to rest for good.
British fashion designer Zandra Rhodes is known for her out-of-the-ordinary sense of style. At 68 years old, she's still wearing wilder hair and makeup than most women who are decades younger. This punky look is uniquely hers, and it's a visual sign that she isn't some little-old-lady type.
I think she has the confidence to pull off her signature look, but not every woman can do it. (I'm not even 30, and yet I think my pink-haired days are behind me.) So what do you think? After a certain age, is wild hair and makeup inappropriate? Or is personal expression a timeless thing?
Spring is (finally!) upon us, so to welcome in the new season, my friends at Sephora are bringing us daily giveaways of goodies to get us pretty and polished for the warmer days to come.

Yesterday I told you a little bit about some firming bust creams, and today we're moving up on the body by focusing on creams to firm your face. Firming facial creams can help to minimize the appearance of your pores, and some can topically and temporarily suspend muscle contractions in your face — similar to what Botox does, but without the side effects.
Tracie Martyn Firming Serum ($185) is a favorite among celebrities, so I was really excited when I received a sample to test. I used it only a few times, but I found it to be calming, moisturizing, and brightening.
Clarins Extra Firming Day Cream ($77) is more for women in their 40s and up. The medium-weight cream has a very clean smell, and it claims to firm, tone and reduce those stubborn fine lines on your face. I found it to be soothing and it left my skin looking plump and smooth, but I didn't feel any particular sensation when I applied it, so it's hard for me to judge if it really worked.
Mystic Tan Rap Oh, man. Giggle has found an, um, interesting rap that extols the virtues of spray-on tans. It's a must-see if "splotch-free, golden brown" is how you roll.
I just can't get enough of beauty for a good cause. What better way to justify a purchase than by helping those in need? Bare Escentuals has a great way to satisfy both your beauty desires and philanthropic motivations in the limited-edition Rebirth Eyecolor ($13). All proceeds from the sale of this product go directly to Direct Relief International, a group that helps families who are struggling to rebuild and recover from Hurricane Katrina.
The draw of this mineral shadow is that it's an unusual yet wearable shade of shimmery, denim blue. I just tried it out, and I'm happy to report that the color is deep and richly pigmented. It can be worn as a light sparkly wash on the lids, or applied with a damp brush for a smoky evening look.
If you're interested, snag one now; after April 27, they'll be gone for good. And keep an eye out for more snazzy limited edition beauty products from Bare Escentuals, as they've got six more planned for the year.
After I posted last week's Beauty Mark It Challenge for a pore-minimizing product, I got a few friendly reminders that there is no way to actually shrink pores, only to minimize their appearance. But hey, we take what we can get, right? Reader insidesusan thinks that the Estée Lauder Idealist Pore Minimizer is the best, saying that it leaves her skin supremely smooth.
Thanks so much to all of you that helped hunt down a pore-minimizing product for TeamSugar member areidz. Enjoy checking out all your finds below.
Rihanna bundled up for her appearance on The Late Show and looked perfectly chic while waving to her New York fans. She kept things simple in all black but mixed patterns and textures to create a unique look.
