Nothing makes an outfit pop like a splash of color, and the designers showing at this year's fall Fashion Week in New York are taking that to the extreme. By using bright, exotic colors on the eyes, they're keeping the otherwise subtle, muted collections fresh and fun. Check out a rundown of the daring looks in my slideshow!
It's been a while since we've seen Marc Jacobs as subdued as he was at this year's presentation of his Marc by Marc Jacobs line at Fall New York Fashion Week. (What, no reverse-heeled shoes?) While I love that he chose to use pretty and flattering shades of pink on his model's lips, the otherwise bare faces and slicked-back ponytails do little to spice up the overall look. What do you think of this toned-down Marc? Simple and pretty, or a little too blah for your taste?
I smelled the most divine fragrance over the weekend at a swank boutique called Joseph. From what I understand, the Joseph brand is hugely popular in the UK, but it also has two stores here in New York. Joseph Parfum de Jour was co-created with clothing designer Joseph Ettedgui and British fragrance company Penhaligon's.
It initially launched in 1985 and was improved and re-released in 1997. While it is made from jasmine, rose, hyacinth, muguet, ylang ylang, sandalwood, and amber, when my nose-in-training takes a deep, long sniff, I smell mostly jasmine and spices.
The bottle and the packaging are minimal and simple. They were designed by Terasa Roviras, who drew on the inspiration from Joseph’s love of women and black and white photography. Overall, the fragrance is feminine, sexy, and medium-bodied, which makes for a sexy olfactory cocktail to match the fabulous array of cocktail attire the store also has to offer.
Joseph Parfum de Jour is available in 50ml ($69) and 100 ml ($100). You can purchase them in any of the UK boutiques, in the two New York boutiques, or by calling the stores directly.
I've got a really important challenge for everyone this week. I recently ran out of my eye makeup remover, and I am desperate for a new one. I've been using my longtime favorite, Lancome Bi-Facil, but I am ready for a change. My requirements are that it must remove every last smudge of mascara and liquid liner, but that it is gentle on my sensitive eyes and not require too much tugging or rubbing to be effective. I'm not partial to oil, water, gel or cream-based removers, as long as it works! So, I'm turning the decision-making process over to you, and I can't wait to share your favorites next Tuesday.
Let me know your suggestions by bookmarking items from around the web and tagging them with the phrase eye makeup remover.

MAC cosmetics has just tapped Fergie as its latest spokesmodel for the Viva Glam campaign, which has helped raise more than $100 million worldwide for HIV/AIDS. She will join the ranks of Eve and Dita Von Teese, the current faces of the campaign. Fergie says of MAC's decision:
"They pick controversial people who aren't afraid to speak their mind, and that's definitely me."
Known for her candor about her own struggles as a troubled youth, Fergie hopes to use her popularity in the young adult demographic to raise awareness about the risks of unprotected sex.
Her first task in her newly appointed position is to help MAC design a special-edition lip gloss in a mauvey-pink shade for the campaign. Oh can't wait.
Dead Sea Premier is a skincare brand I learned about during my visit to the IMATS. Its products are made from minerals, water, and mud from the Dead Sea that have been extracted and purified to help restore elasticity to the skin. The ingredients are natural and contain Vitamins A and E, antioxidants, SPF 17, and eight components that individually decompose hourly to ensure that every application lasts for eight hours.
The product I tested out (on my arm, since it's not recommended for those with sensitive skin), Mask Miracle Noir ($99.99) is an antiaging, deep cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing face mask recommended for ages 30 and over.
It has a fresh eucalyptus scent and a black color (something you don't see everyday). But what really makes this product unique is the removal process. Inside of the cap is a mud block with magnetic properties. Begin by smoothing the mask over your face and neck and allow it to penetrate for 10 minutes. Then, wrap the mud block in a tissue and streak it along your face in sections. The block attracts to the mask (you may even feel a slight shock) and instantly sweeps all traces of the mask away.
What's left on your face is a shiny and smooth film; these are minerals. Don't rub them off, rather massage them into your skin and leave it on overnight. Dead Sea Premier Mask Miracle Noir is recommended for use once a week. Does this sound interesting enough for you to try?
Yesterday, Fab and I trekked to Chelsea for the Rodarte show, where we were seated behind none other than Anna Wintour. (Okay, so it was six rows behind her, but still.) Inspired by Japanese horror films, the show itself was genuinely inspiring, and so different from anything else I've seen this week.
For instance, take a look at the show's hair—it's so sleek, colorful, and futuristic. While I love flowing, wearable looks for real life, seeing this kind of sculptural style is an exciting reminder of what Aveda's stylists can do when they're encouraged to go big. I wasn't as enthralled by the makeup, unfortunately; while the deep burgundy lips were popped on the models' ghostly skin, the choice of red eye shadow made them look sickly.
Or maybe I thought of sickness because a few of the models were shockingly thin. I know it's nothing new, but there was something particularly disconcerting about the way the pale makeup paired with visible ribcages and jutting shoulder blades. As much as I loved the originality of the show's aesthetics, it had the unintended effect of making some of the girls look like the walking dead.
Singer and actress Selena Gomez posed for pictures at the 2009 American Music Awards with a pretty pink smile on her face. She took advantage of the occasion and went glam; wearing a Talbot Runhof sequin dress with black strappy heels.
