OK, there are a million bad apps out there already, but the Shafer Plastic Surgery App really puts the "terrible" in the "terribly useless." An "informational database of over 1,000 FAQ’s covering invasive and non-invasive plastic surgery procedures and treatments," this iPhone app seems designed mostly to tell young, trendy women about procedures that, if you're at all considering, you should be discussing directly with a doctor instead of a gadget. If plastic surgery is going to make you really, truly happy, then OK, go for it. But taking advice from your phone on how to look your best is probably not a wise idea. Plus, the graphics on this thing are kinda sleazy. A headless female torso with water running down it and just a hint of boob — really? I think surgery is a serious thing, and your self-esteem is too. What about you? Would you download something like this?

It isn't a crime to have a fat gut or be unattractive. Beauty is, after all, in the eye of the beholder. There's nothing wrong with plastic surgery, but too many women receive the message that they're not okay as they are, and that they really NEED to have plastic surgery. If it's difficult to remember your questions in front of a doctor, it might help to write them down on paper for your consultation. I personally am not a fan of the app, but if it pleases you, then go for it.

Ummmmmm....BellaSugar, did you download and go through this? Most of us women spend time researching stuff as a first step before seeing a doc. Also, it is hard to remember all your questions you have when you do get in front of one. I loved the variety of topics covered, and how balanced the responses were. I am into Apps like this because they get updated regularly instead of a book/magazine article. It is great that a plastic surgeon took the time to prepare Q/A for us frankly. Your criticisms about the graphics - sounds a bit whiny. What do you suggest - a fat gut or unattractive female? We (empowered women!) know who we are but don't mind being inspired...or better informed. Give us some credit geez. Two thumbs up for the Shafer App!!

The Plastic Surgery iPhone App has useful information about a full spectrum of plastic surgery, including safety and who is and is not a good candidate for surgery. It is not a replacement for talking with your surgeon (as stated on the intro page). It is a good resource before or after seeing your surgeon so that you can be a well-informed. The App also has the possibility to ask a plastic surgeon a question directly, which may be useful for a patient that cannot afford a consultation but is just curious about a new procedure or product on the market. There is a lot of misinformation out there in advertising, the media and on blogs. This App allows the patient to clarify any questions or concerns about plastic surgery.
