Alice + Olivia Channels Italian Renaissance Beauty

A little romantic and a little edgy was the overall look for the hair, makeup, and nails at Alice + Olivia's Fall 2013 showing.

A little romantic and a little edgy was the overall look for the hair, makeup, and nails at Alice + Olivia's Fall 2013 showing. The braided style, mixed with smudged eye makeup and a crimson lip, lent a modern take on a Renaissance aesthetic.

The look: Halo braids, gilded lids, and a glossy red lip.
The inspiration: Romantic Renaissance.
Key products: Stila Stay All Day Lip Vinyl Gloss in Merlot.

Makeup: Sarah Lucero for Stila conceptualized the gorgeous Fall makeup palette for Alice + Olivia's Fall 2013 show. She focused on the lips, using Stila's Stay All Day Lip Vinyl Gloss in Merlot, a rich, high-shine crimson hue. And to balance the strength of the bold lip, she kept the eye makeup soft and shimmering with In the Light Eye Shadow Palette and Metal-Eyes Foil Finish Shadow. To get a similar chromatic effect on the eyes, wet your brush before applying the gold shadow to your lids.

Hair: The hair, by Antonio Corral Calero for Moroccanoil, featured a wreath of braids on top of the head. To achieve the style, he parted the hair in the center and created two separate braids. Next, he wrapped them in opposite directions around the head, tucked the braids under, and secured with bobby pins. He let pieces of hair frame the face to add to the romantic feel.

Nails: There were three nail looks by NCLA. Depending on what the model was wearing for the show, she had one of three colors on her nails: Rush Hour (vibrant red), Call Me For the After Party (metallic blue), or Alice + Olivia Plaid Nail Wraps.

Models at Badgley Mischka walked the Spring 2013 runway in some of the most unabashedly romantic updos in recent history. The design duo behind the luxe line was inspired by Max Reinhardt's 1935 film A Midsummer Night's Dream when conceptualizing the beauty look, which translated to this soft, cascading upsweep. It's the kind of style you'll wear all season long, from weddings to all your holiday nights out.
