What Color Are You Claiming For Fall?

Check out this fun post from OnSugar blog Addicted to All Things Pretty.

Check out this fun post from OnSugar blog Addicted to All Things Pretty.

As fall quickly approaches, many of us are checking out the latest trends to prepare for the season.  Bold, rich red and berry-colored eye shadows, deep smoky eyes, metallic golds and ambers, as well as matte nude, berry, and brownish-orange lips all ruled the fashion runways.  I plan on adorning my pretty little face with a few of these trends.  But I also plan on claiming as well as owning (as in self ownership and the ability to confidently wear) a few of my own trends.  One of those trends will be the everyday bright-but-wearable pinkish red.  I’m going to incorporate this color into my makeup, clothing, and, of course, nail color.  I even saw Rihanna wearing a color similar to the one I have in mind in the “Love the Way You Lie” video, which is CND Wildfire.  I know, I know… this isn’t a trend and it may even seem to be more appropriate for spring.  The great thing about claiming and owning your own trend is that it doesn’t matter… just do you, and do it well.

Why One Reader Loves Headwraps

Check out this excerpt from OnSugar blog Naturally Random: I regularly wear headwraps to work or out and about.

Check out this excerpt from OnSugar blog Naturally Random:

I regularly wear headwraps to work or out and about. For several reasons, I suppose. First being, of course, I am lazy (or running late—my black wrap is always washed and ready to go). The second is that it frightens the hell out of people! I love that. Seriously, some people won't speak to me when my head is wrapped—how ignorant is that?! That's who I am dealing with on a daily basis, people.

Since doing the whole natural thing, I thought I would wrap my hair more than usual, but that has not really been the case. I usually wrap my hair in one of two ways. Either high on my head (regal like!) or in a ponytail at the back. I buy material from a local market and it literally lasts for years. I have around four or five different colors, but I usually wear the black.

It's a Bird. It's a Plane. It's . . . Ed Hardy Hand Sanitizer?

This funny find from OnSugar blog Temple of Glam had us cracking up.

This funny find from OnSugar blog Temple of Glam had us cracking up. Check it out:

To quote Clueless, I'm totally buggin'! I was standing in line at Duane Reade (a NYC pharmacy chain) and as I juggled a bag of gummy bears, something else, and a bottle of water, my "impulse-purchase finger" started twitching. My eyes were mysteriously drawn to a very familiar, text-image pairing of the Ed Hardy persuasion. "But you're in Duane Reade...in New York, not Vegas!" I said to myself. I slowly bent down to see it: friggin Ed Hardy Hand Sanitizer ($3.50). I spun it 'round and 'round. I even contemplated buying it just to prove that it exists. But alas, I decided to write about it. Sadly, I didn't check out the "light" scent...and now I'm kinda' obsessed about what it could smell like: Hmm... can you bottle "bling bling"?

Check Out This Girl's Cool Natural Hairstyle

Check out this excerpt from one woman's natural hair journey.

Check out this excerpt from one woman's natural hair journey. Meet Brittany, who was interviewed by OnSugar blog Naturally Obsessed:

What are your hair goals?
I want a huge mess of hair. I keep my ends moisturized, and as soon as I can manage a couple of ponytails in the back, I'll be baggying. I don't trim, but I don't need to, in my opinion. I'd like for my hair to be waist-length when straight. When my hair seems to be consistently behaving, I'll experiment with color.

What is your definition of "good" hair?
Hair that is loved and well cared for, and thus gets to show the best of its traits.

The Art of the DIY Updo: Only 8 Bobby Pins Required

Check out this pretty updo tutorial from OnSugar blog Beauty & The Blog: Updos can be costly and keep you in the salon for hours.

Check out this pretty updo tutorial from OnSugar blog Beauty & The Blog:

Updos can be costly and keep you in the salon for hours. Not every occasion requires such posh styling. What you didn't know is that most updos can be created with a maximum of eight bobby pins. True story! Below is the how-to for this deconstructed 'do. Note, I did it two times. The beauty about this style is each time the updo is slightly different — organic beauty!

  1. Separate the hair in two sections.
  2. Twist each section in your hands.
  3. Cross over the sections and twist the ends together.
  4. Tuck and roll the ends, then secure pins in an 'X' formation.

See How to Create a Gradient Manicure

Check out this pretty manicure tutorial from OnSugar blog Cee Me: Hi everyone, With the party makeup I just wrote about, I was wearing these amazing gradient nails.

Check out this pretty manicure tutorial from OnSugar blog Cee Me:

Hi everyone, With the party makeup I just wrote about, I was wearing these amazing gradient nails. The polishes are all China Glaze Holographic polishes from the OMG! Collection (2008). The colors are DV8, LOL, and BFF. Now, how do you blend these polishes? With a disposable makeup sponge. Just dip the sponge in a drop of polish (or paint it on the sponge) and then pat it on the nails. The less pressure, the less polish is released. Start with the base color and then work towards the tip (and let it dry between colors!)

Here's an excerpt from a fun story we found on OnSugar blog Temple of Glam. Enjoy!

Recently inspired by two of my newly single friends participating in online dating, I thought I'd compose a little sumthin' for all my single ladies. Here are five products you can use as soon as you realize the dude is a dandy or a dud.

Peppermint Oil

  • If he's a luvah: Place a dot on your tongue making the proceeding convo... you guessed it... like a breath of fresh air.
  • If he's a loser: I'm not recommending you put some in a rude boy's eyes, because you know, I'd never suggest something like that.

The History of Beauty: Le Rouge Baiser

Here's a fascinating excerpt on lipstick history from OnSugar blog Older Girl Beauty.

Here's a fascinating excerpt on lipstick history from OnSugar blog Older Girl Beauty. Read and be edified:

We're going to learn about an almost mythical lipstick — the Rouge Baiser. I say "mythical" because getting information on these cult status lipsticks is as easy as getting a picture of Nessie in the Loch at sunrise on a Tuesday — damn near impossible. Now, I'm not saying it's not talked about, I'm just saying that I couldn't find an official page for it at its parent company, Deborah Milano, nor any other really informative pages out there. But it exists. I know that it does, because I have three of them (Thank you, Christmas!). The "Rouge Baiser" was created in 1927 by a French chemist named Paul Baudecroux. It was the first "indelible" or "kiss-proof" lipstick. In fact, it "dyed" lips so much that it was pulled from the market because it was so hard to remove.

To find out more about the mysterious Rouge Baiser, just keep reading. And if you have your own story to share, why not start an OnSugar blog yourself?
