Have you ever had a formal event to attend and you weren't sure what makeup shades might go with your dress? Take a cue from makeup artist D'Andre Michael, who worked with Queen Latifah at the 2010 People's Choice Awards, opting for a blue smoky eye, nude lipstick, and bronzed skin to complement the entertainer's cream, deep blue, and black gowns.
"Queen's wardrobe changes were my inspiration for her look," he said. "Since she had three changes I wanted to create a look that would suit all of her choices." Check out my gallery below to see how this cool- and warm-toned palette worked for the entertainer's various ensembles, and get the how-to at the link below.
To get the instructions just
- Eyes: Michael used MAC Eye Shadow in Brown Down ($14.50) right above the crease and under the lower lashes. "Doing this allows you to blend your darker shadows into a softer color," he said. Next, he applied Lancôme Eye Shadow in Garment Intense ($17) on the lids, blending it into the previously applied brown shadow. For depth and contrast, he used CoverGirl Outlast Eyeliner in Onyx ($6) on the inner bottom eyelid.
- Lips: Michael applied MAC Lipstick in Velvet Teddy ($14), a matte, deep-tone beige, as a base coat and lined Queen's lips with Kevyn Aucoin Flesh Tone Lip Pencil in Deep ($24). "Be sure to rub lips together to blend your lip liner for a softer line," he advises. For luster and shine, Michael then added CoverGirl Lipslicks Lip Gloss in Cutie ($4).
- Cheeks: MAC's Blush in Sweet as Cocoa ($18), a shimmering pearly brown, was applied to accentuate the cheeks. For a subtle glow, he then added CoverGirl Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer ($18).
