Gwen Stefani's New Super G Perfume Is Nerd-dorable

In news of things both unbearably cute and beauty related, Gwen Stefani continues to roll out increasingly adorable, quirky "dolls" in her Harajuku Lovers fragrance collection. The latest limited-edition scent is Super G, which will fly into stores in August. I love all her little superheroine details, from the tie on her cape to the heart cutouts on her mask.

According to the Harajuku Lovers Facebook page, Super G is "a modern-day superhero fighting to bring super kawaii to you all the time." So what does super smell like? Very, very fruity and tropical, with notes that include pineapple, mandarin orange, freesia, banana, vanilla, and raspberry. (Sounds like a smoothie to me.) As a huge comic book dork, I'm going to have a hard time resisting this one. But what do you think? Is Super G a smell-fighter you want on your dressing table? And to get a super close look at the Super G doll, just keep reading.

Gwen Stefani Talks About Her Wicked Style

It's no secret that Gwen Stefani is an enormous fan of Japanese culture.

It's no secret that Gwen Stefani is an enormous fan of Japanese culture. For her new collection of Harajuku Lovers fragrances, Wicked Style, she turned again to Harajuku, the trend-setting Tokyo neighborhood that has inspired her for years. Here, the singer-actress-designer talks about the fragrance-making process, her love of Japan, and why she says she's the same as everyone.

BellaSugar: How did you design the outfits for the fragrance bottles?
Gwen Stefani:
We never thought we would get this far with doing so many of the girls. We wanted to go back to the roots of being inspired by Harajuku, the actual place. [Looking at] the different styles of Harajuku girls, we went from there. Then a lot of the stuff is from real costumes.

Gwen Stefani Has Wicked Style at Sephora

The area around Sephora in Soho was a madhouse on Fashion's Night Out, and all for one woman: Gwen Stefani.

The area around Sephora in Soho was a madhouse on Fashion's Night Out, and all for one woman: Gwen Stefani. She was there to debut Wicked Style, the new Harajuku Lovers fragrance collection. Only 100 fans were allowed inside Sephora to have Gwen sign their bottles, but that didn't stop hundreds more from milling around the store entrance.

Clad in a dress from her Spring 2011 L.A.M.B. collection, Gwen made it to the front of Sephora a little past 10 p.m. Outside, people began scaling the walls for a peek, so G and her Harajuku Girls dancers stepped into the window for a quick hello. Gwen was tweeting away throughout the evening, and yes, she handles the No Doubt account herself. ("Who else would do it?" she asked.) More from Gwen soon, but for now, check out these pictures from the event.

The New Harajuku Lovers Are Sunny and Sweet

Fans of Gwen Stefani's Harajuku Lovers fragrances should love this one.

Fans of Gwen Stefani's Harajuku Lovers fragrances should love this one. After the success of her Snow Bunnies flanker dolls, Gwen's putting out five new, bikini-clad versions for next Spring. Each has a new scent that matches the personality and fragrance family of the original doll, but adds lighter, more summery notes. I'm loving their cute little belly buttons and adorable pedicures, and while I wasn't crazy about the actual fragrances the first time around, I'm willing to keep an open mind about these new scents. What do you think? Will you be running out to pick these up, or not so much?

Gwen Stefani's Perfume Dolls Are 可愛い!

OK, no matter what you think about Gwen Stefani's tendency to fetishize anything and everything Asian, you've gotta admit: Her new perfume bottles are pret-ty darn 可愛い — that's kawaii, which is Japanese for "cute."

OK, no matter what you think about Gwen Stefani's tendency to fetishize anything and everything Asian, you've gotta admit: Her new perfume bottles are pret-ty darn 可愛い — that's kawaii, which is Japanese for "cute." The quintet comprises the Harajuku Lovers fragrance collection — more details here — and the scents are aimed toward a younger crowd than her first scent, L.

Inside the World of Celebrity Scents

Eighty-four percent of you say you're sick of celebrity fragrances, but you must be anomalies—because celeb perfumes are selling like crazy.

Eighty-four percent of you say you're sick of celebrity fragrances, but you must be anomalies—because celeb perfumes are selling like crazy. Some of the interesting bits from the story:

  • There's big bucks in this business. Euromonitor International, a Chicago-based market research firm, reports that worldwide sales of the top seven celebrity scent lines—just the top seven!—totaled $353.6 million last year.
  • Diddy's sitting pretty. A lot of you find his Unforgivable ads cheesy, but the scent is doing just fine. Last year, it did $74.9 million in sales.
  • Inside the contract: Fragrance companies such as Coty and Elizabeth Arden produce and develop the fragrance, then the star's name goes on the bottle. Contract details are kept private, but the industry standard is to give the celeb 5–10% of sales, with a possible signing bonus.
  • Jennifer Lopez has made many cents out of scents. Forbes writes: "In 2006, Lopez's net worth was about $110 million, according to Forbes' list of the 20 richest women in entertainment—but her last CD was a flop, as were her last several movies. Sales of her fragrances, including Glow and Live Luxe, totaled $77 million in 2006."

What I'd really like to know—and what the story doesn't reveal, unfortunately—is the extent to which celebrities are involved in creating their scents. I've heard that Hilary Duff had a lot of input and feedback on hers, and I can see Gwen Stefani knowing what she wanted for L. Somehow, though, I'm not convinced that Britney Spears was actively involved in making Believe—at least, not with all of her personal drama this year.

View Gwen Stefani's L Commercial

I just found the new spot for L By Gwen Stefani, and just like Sarah Jessica's Covet commercial, there is whispering.

I just found the new spot for L By Gwen Stefani, and just like Sarah Jessica's Covet commercial, there is whispering. (Weird, isn't it, how fragrance ads often involve whispering?) Upon third or fourth viewing, I was impressed by the consistent branding—check out the shape of the pool and the shape of the bottle. What do you think of it?
