Hitchcock, the film that takes a look at the goings-on of Alfred Hitchcock and his inner circle during the filming of 1960's Psycho, recently came out on DVD. What happened behind the scenes of a movie that actually looks at life behind the scenes of a movie, however, is quite remarkable. Nominated for an Oscar in best makeup and hairstyling, the special effects makeup team of Howard Berger and Peter Montagna (nominated alongside hairstylist Martin Samuel), transformed legendary actor Anthony Hopkins into iconic film director Alfred Hitchcock.

Doing so didn't come without its challenges. "You have an actor like Anthony Hopkins, and you're faced with the task of taking one of the best-known actors in the world and transforming him into a perfect portrait of one of the greatest directors ever known," Berger explained. See what else he and Montagna had to say about the entire Hopkins-to-Hitchcock metamorphisis when you click through.

Life of Pi Director Ang Lee snagged an Oscar for his visually stunning adaptation of the bestselling novel.

Life of Pi

Director Ang Lee snagged an Oscar for his visually stunning adaptation of the bestselling novel. Following a boat accident, Pi (Suraj Sharma) is left stranded on a life boat in the middle of the ocean. He's not alone — his sole companion is his family's Bengal tiger. The story is well told by flashing between a modern-day Pi and his harrowing teenage experience, but the unforgettable part of the movie is its breathtaking visual aspect. The DVD extras include featurettes.

Hitchcock

Anthony Hopkins portrays the titular filmmaker in this semibiographical movie about Alfred Hitchcock. Set around the time he was filming Psycho, the film follows Hitchcock and his wife, Alma (Helen Mirren), as they work with star Janet Leigh (Scarlett Johansson) on the horror movie. The enlightening film focuses on backstage drama and the tension between the director and his wife. Hopkins makes a wonderful Hitchcock, but the film is a bit too fluffy. The DVD includes several featurettes, director commentary, and a deleted scene.

Snappy and Saucy Lines From Hitchcock Heroines

If you're in the mood for some retro suspense this Thanksgiving weekend, check out the new biopic Hitchcock, which hits theaters today.

If you're in the mood for some retro suspense this Thanksgiving weekend, check out the new biopic Hitchcock, which hits theaters today. The film stars Anthony Hopkins as the famed director and centers on his relationship with his wife (played by Helen Mirren) in addition to the hurdles he had to overcome when filming Psycho. Scarlett Johansson stars as the shower-scene-stealing Janet Leigh, and if there's one thing Hitchcock is known for, it's his stunning — and mostly blond — heroines. Feisty ladies in movies like Vertigo, The Birds, and To Catch a Thief may be dealing with some frightful situations, but they never fail to dish out snappy words of wisdom along the way. Take a trip back through some of the director's retro thrillers with our favorite lines from Hitchcock heroines.

Hitchcock: Hopkins Is Bloody Good

Anthony Hopkins plays legendary filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock in Hitchcock, and as the "master of suspense," Hopkins is scarily good.

Anthony Hopkins plays legendary filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock in Hitchcock, and as the "master of suspense," Hopkins is scarily good. The film follows the director for only a handful of months, while he's overcoming opposition to make iconic horror film Psycho. It's a fascinating subject — the studio feared it would be a tasteless slasher film, and the criticism only seemed to fuel Hitchcock's resolve. However, while Hopkins's performance is admirable and the movie is energetic, Hitchcock isn't nearly as memorable as the films the director was known for.

While Psycho's development gives Hitchcock its time frame, "Hitch"'s relationship with his wife, Alma Reville (Helen Mirren), is also used to illustrate his life. At the time the film takes place, the couple is verging on a rough patch due to a host of things, including finances and extramarital temptations. While the marital discord makes you think of them as an average couple and Mirren is predictably fantastic, it's less interesting than the story of Psycho. Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Biel Debut Hitchcock in NYC

Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Biel attended the NYC premiere of their movie, Hitchcock, last night at the Ziegfeld Theatre.

Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Biel attended the NYC premiere of their movie, Hitchcock, last night at the Ziegfeld Theatre. They went for very different looks on the red carpet: Scarlett was edgy in a Rodarte mini, while Jessica went for something a bit more mature in an Oscar de la Renta combo, which she paired with Lorraine Schwartz earrings. Whose Hitchcock premiere look do you prefer? Helen Mirren, meanwhile, donned Dolce&Gabbana.

Jessica and Scarlett posed for photos alongside their costars Toni Collette, Helen Mirren, and Danny Huston after doing a long day of press at the junket together. Jessica joked on Twitter about how the ladies all looked at different photographers during the group shots. She wrote, "Our Hitchcock cast! Clearly no one knew where to look and when . . . " Missing from the fun was Anthony Hopkins, who plays the title role. Anthony Hopkins's Hitchcock impression looked quite good from Hitchcock's trailer, and moviegoers can see it for themselves when the picture arrives in theaters this Friday, Nov. 23.
