Rihanna is making her acting debut in the new movie Battleship alongside Brooklyn Decker and Alexander Skarsgard. The singer turned actress has been busy traveling the globe promoting the movie and has sported some killer outfits while doing so. Over in Japan, Rihanna tried out this season's comfiest trend — pajama dressing — choosing a head-to-toe printed jacket and pant combo by Emilio Pucci. Throughout her career, Rihanna has made her mark as a hair chameleon with her frequent changes in cut and color. This weekend, she premiered a new jet-black hue as she traveled to Japan doing press for her film Battleship. Even though the look is more serious than her previous platinum blond with peekaboo roots, she keeps it fresh and funky with shaved sides.
Other celebrities who have opted for shaved strands run the gamut from Jada Pinkett-Smith to Alice Dellal and Cassie. For Rihanna, who chronicled the transformation on her Instagram page, this look is reminiscent of her short cut from several years back that yielded many copycats. But the songstress admitted on her Twitter page that she isn't quite ready for the big chop yet.
Originating in the 1920s, the bob is a short, blunt, and classic hairstyle in which the weight of the hair falls between the ears and chin. It can be styled with or without bangs and in various lengths, but a proper bob never grows past the shoulders.
Below are photographs depicting many different modern bobs. Kate Bosworth wears a classic-length one blunt-cut bob, Christina Ricci wears a shorter, more manicured Louise Brooks bob, Rihanna dons a top-heavy pageboy bob, and Jenny McCarthy wears the ever-popular angled bob. Which contemporary bob do you favor?
The first Allure of 2008 features Rihanna as its cover girl. In the interview, she explains that she chopped her hair into a bob without her label's permission:
"The label didn't want me to do this look. But cutting my hair, it made me stand out as an artist. I don't care who likes it — this is me."
Or, to be more precise, it was her. The singer stepped out in London yesterday with soft, wavy, and longer locks. What do you think of this new hairstyle?
One thing I love about Rihanna is her willingness to play with her hair. Not every girl can pull off angular cuts, but she does so with aplomb. This time around, she put a little lightning bolt of blonde in her razored bob. What do you think?
