While bad hair is rarely a life or death situation, the truth is that hair emergencies do happen — and always at the worst possible time. Luckily for us all, most of these urgent matters don't require professional attention and have quick fixes that can temporarily get you out of a beauty jam until your next salon appointment.

Ever hear of the saying "honesty is the best policy"? Well, nowhere is this truer than in the salon. To get the very most out of your stylist and salon experience, open and honest communication is an absolute must! Like women who buy jeans four sizes too small in the hopes that it'll inspire them to shed those extra pounds (and often end up with a closet full of clothes they can't wear), salon clients are too often unrealistic about their hair type/hair color, ability as at-home stylists, and commitment to upkeep; resulting in dissatisfaction with a particular haircut/hair color or unfair assessment of a stylist’s
skill. See the rest of Tabatha's tips when you read more.

It's not often that I feel inspired by celebrity hair trends. Let's be honest: Most play it safe and B-O-R-I-N-G, but I do have to admit that there are a few brave ones out there who are taking some well-calculated risks that are paying off beautifully. And they are: drum roll, please . . .

You've seen her on hit shows like Shear Genius and Tabatha's Salon Takeover, and over the next few weeks, you'll also be seeing Tabatha Coffey right here on BellaSugar. Tabatha has just penned a new book, It's Not Really About the Hair, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the site as a guest writer. Take it away, Tabatha:

I can never remember a time that I didn't love hair. Whether it was setting wigs for the drag queens at my parents' clubs or cutting my dolls' hair, it is and always has been my passion. I believe hair is your best accessory, and I love helping people feel good about themselves and sharing tips, tricks, and trends that will always keep you looking and feeling great. You all also know that I am all about the business of hair too, so . . .

I am so excited to tell you that for the next few weeks I am going to be blogging for BellaSugar! To address some of your hair care needs: from how to find a good salon and stylist, to some of my favorite product combinations, to some tips and tricks to spice up your hair at home — and if you want to join the biz, the best way to do it!

It will be honest (imagine that!), fun, and helpful.
— Tabatha

Would You Let Someone Take Over Your Business?

Every week on Tabatha's Salon Takeover, hairstylist extraordinaire Tabatha Coffey takes control of a flailing salon and whips it into shape.

Every week on Tabatha's Salon Takeover, hairstylist extraordinaire Tabatha Coffey takes control of a flailing salon and whips it into shape. Although I'm an avid viewer, I'm not quite so sure how I would react to real-life Tabatha in my work space — taking total control of my company's policies and the people I work with.

Some of the highlights include a full-out interior design makeover of the salon studio, and a complete revamping of lackadaisical company policies. Frustrated employees get to voice their opinion on their boss's behavior, and likewise, bosses are asked to carefully re-evaluate employees whose bad attitudes might be jeopardizing company teamwork. At the end of day, Tabatha makes a series of recommendations and advises the business owner on employees whose positions need shifting, or those who should be let go.

The benefits of having an expert like Tabatha put your business on track are clear, but having an outsider manage your business — especially if she has Tabatha's strong personality — could be a major deterrent from this kind of business makeover. So, tell me, would you be willing to let someone take over your office to put a savvy business plan in place? Or would you be skeptical of any outsider, even an expert, changing things around?

Buzz In: Who Are Your Favorite Reality Show Contestants?

We've talked a lot around here about the most heinous reality show contestants, the Omarosas and Wendy Peppers of the world who are — best case — the kind of folks you love to hate (and mostly just hate).

We've talked a lot around here about the most heinous reality show contestants, the Omarosas and Wendy Peppers of the world who are — best case — the kind of folks you love to hate (and mostly just hate). But what about the reality show contestants you love to love, the ones that keep you going when things get nasty?

I was thinking about this because one of my favorite reality contestants, Tabatha Coffey of Shear Genius season one, is getting her own show on Bravo. As a contestant, Tabatha was witty, sharp-tongued, and maybe just a little unhinged, all of which made her a total joy for me to watch.

That show also had another of the greatest reality contestants in my book, the scrubs-wearing Dr. Boogie. I also have a sweet spot for Andrew from the most recent edition of Top Chef, 100 Proof from the The White Rapper Show, and Carrie Underwood back in her starry-eyed, crunchy-haired country girl days as an American Idol contestant.

Which reality show contestants have you actually enjoyed watching?
