Summertime always breeds safe, fun, sunless bronzing products and I've noticed that a few of the new bronzing-powder compacts contain more than one shade in them. The idea is to create a healthy-looking glow, and I suppose the gradation of colors is a way to achieve that look. Instead of having a flat tan all over your face, the variation of shades creates a more natural effect. Here are five new multicolor powder bronzers on the market for Summer 2008 for you to check out.

• Shiseido The Makeup Multi-Shade Enhancer ($35) contains five shades of shimmery bronzer. Blended together, it can be worn on your face and body and used separately it can double as eye shadows or a highlighter. Also, it is available in two shades.
• Caribbean in a Compact in Sun Bunny ($25) is a dual-shaded bronzer made from silky, light-reflecting powders. Each of the colors can be worn individually or layered together.
• Lorac TANtalizer Baked Bronzer ($28) is a multishaded terracotta baked bronzer that can be used on your face or your body. This marbelized makeup also contains a brush and mirror on the lower level of the compact.
• Sephora Summer Safari Bronzer ($16) is a powder bronzer available in two animal prints depending on your skin tone. Giraffe is light and zebra is dark and coppery. Blend the shades together for a bright, glowy complexion.
• Smashbox Desert Chic Fusion Body Bronzing Powder and Brush Set ($55) contains four tan and bronze shades and comes with a mini-kabuki brush. This oversized bronzer can be worn on your face and body for a healthy, glowing tan.

This weekend I stumbled across this gorgeous palette from Aussie brand Becca, and I had to do a double-take. The "Best of Becca" palette is a worthy addition to any makeup collection. Unlike most palettes that only have one or two useful colors, this one contains colors that are all flattering on almost every skin tone. Inside are two earthy eye shadows, a subtle yet flattering rosy nude blush, a pinkish caramel lip/cheek cream, and a shimmery gloss to polish off the look. Paging Mr. Spock! Too Faced Cosmetics has just launched an out-of-this-world, baked eye shadow called Galaxy Glam Eye Shadow ($19.50). Available in four colors, each one has a black base and contains swirls of contrasting iridescent bright colors. They can be worn wet or dry and they are supposed to give off the feeling that light is leaping onto your eyes from all angles.

While the concept and the futuristic silver packaging are unique, I found application to be a bit complicated. It really requires you to pay close attention to where you are sweeping your brush — get carried away and you'll have black where you want blue! On skin, the shades appear mostly black, with a slight sheen of color that shows up in the light. I think they'd work really well as eyeliner or with a dramatic smoky eye, but using them takes some practice.

This is Too Faced FUZE Slenderize Guilt-Free Lip Gloss ($18.50). Available in three shiny shades, it's infused with the "appetite-curbing, energy-boasting ingredients" of FUZE, a weight-loss drink. And yes, it promises to make you thinner.

It should go without saying that my BS sensors are going haywire on this one. While the colors seem nice enough, the idea of losing weight through lip gloss alone is silly. It's just not going to happen, my friends. (Not without eating right and staying fit, anyway.) Don't fall for this marketing ploy—and for that matter, don't fall for the idea that you need to be thin to be beautiful. If you can't live without the three colors of this gloss, go ahead and try it out. But if you think it'll make you slim down, think again.

Bare Escentuals bareMinerals Glimmer in True Gold ($13) is a very sheer, almost translucent shimmer shadow that works to create a hint of subtle sparkle to your eyes. It's similar to gold dust in that it can also be worn on your décolletage and cheeks, but this also has a special quality because it can transform from wet to dry for a more dramatic effect.

Tis the season for all that glitters! From sparkly eyes to shimmery lips, cheeks and shoulders, if you have any glitter makeup that you've been wanting to bust out, now is the time. Glittery goodies can be a lot of fun to play with, but remember that only one feature on your body should be the main attraction. Don't overdo it, or you'll look like one big Christmas ornament yourself.

Glitter is a great finishing touch to a smoky eye or on the center of your lips. Too Faced Cosmetics has recently introduced a new and different genre of product called Shimmer Veils. These glittery, festive eye shades provide long-lasting, crease-proof color and because of the amount of "disco-ball" shine they exude, you can almost think of them as glosses for your eyes.
