>> Here's a look at Doo-Ri Chung's capsule collection for Macy's, hitting stores in just a few short weeks. Among the pieces on offer? Floor-grazing pleated sundresses in super-soft jersey ($79), coats in brushstroke prints ($89), and leggings paneled in slick faux leather ($69). "My clothes have always been about making women feel elegant and modern, which is why I am so excited about this capsule collection," Chung says. Click through for an up-close view of pieces from the collection, which are currently on preview at Macys.com but won't be available for purchase until Feb. 15.
>> Fresh off dressing Michelle Obama for a state dinner with South Korea's president and first lady last Thursday, Doo-Ri Chung has been signed for an upcoming Macy's collaboration.
Chung's collection, which hits Macy's for eight weeks starting Feb. 15, will include her signature draped jersey, knitwear, and art-inspired prints on short- and maxi-length dresses, leggings, blouses, and trench coats, priced $39 to $159. “The customer is very different from whom we’ve catered to before, but I really didn’t have to adapt. Macy’s wanted to keep the design level high. I didn’t feel the challenge was very different,” Chung said.
Chung is the fifth designer to collaborate with Macy's; although, the retailer would not disclose any designer it is working with past Chung, officials did note the series is resonating and will continue through at least 2012 with other designers.
Timing couldn't be more perfect for Macy's next designer collaborator: Doo-Ri Chung. The designer who's known for her beautiful draped dresses and separates — Chung's gorgeous purple dress was worn by Michelle Obama at the state dinner welcoming South Korea last week — will emulate the same aesthetic in her collection for Macy's Impulse line via short and maxi-length dresses, leggings, blouses, and trenchcoats using jersey, knitwear, and art prints. “Women definitely want clothes that are versatile. I love pieces that you wear for day, and when you accessorize, become perfect for evening, too,” said Chung. The collection is set to retail from $39 to $159 and will be available Feb. 15 online and in stores. >> Greg Kessler is an old pro at shooting the backstage swarm. Now that the first half of New York Fashion Week is through, he's amassed quite a stack of snaps — and we got a choice few. Among the moments captured: Anja Rubik having a quiet moment alone pre-Wang with her Blackberry, Prabal Gurung's model powwow, gratuitous shoe shots from Ohne Titel, Abbey Lee Kershaw still in her street style, and more than a few models goofing off. Gallery from backstage at Alexander Wang, Doo.Ri, Altuzarra, BCBG, Prabal Gurung, Richard Chai Love, Jason Wu, and Ohne Titel, at left.
Doo-Ri Chung's spring collection was a soft blend of whites, vanillas, and baby blues — and the makeup was subtle and perfectly pastel to match. "We decided the makeup would be colorful, but in a washed-out way," lead makeup artist Tom Pecheux explained. Find out more about the look when you keep reading.
When most of us go to the beach, we're not too concerned about what's going on with our water-soaked hair. A ponytail, air-dried strands, or a simple braid usually suit us just fine. But then there are those times that we want our hair to look a little bit more put-together, without looking fussy or overly styled. In those cases, let's look to the runway for inspiration. Here are five different styles from the catwalks perfect to wear to any beach or pool soiree.
Fall is almost here! The new season is full of gorgeous colors and sexy new hairstyles, but while it's easy to spot the runway trends that are transitioning to real life, there are plenty of others that we can only hope don't make an appearance at the local mall. So what looks are we hoping stay in the realms of the unreal? Click through to see the styles that, for all our sakes, we hope we're not trying come September.
