Undercover superheros are a mainstay in pop culture, but did you know they walk among you in real life? This month, in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, makeup brand NYX is rewarding undercover superheroes of another color: volunteers. They may not fight moustache-twirling villains, but fighting cancer is absolutely heroic.
In recognition for acts of selflessness and kindness, individuals who donated, volunteered, or ran a marathon in support of finding a cure will get 35 percent off their entire online purchase through Nov. 1. So send your donation slips and all other documentation to firstname.lastname@example.org for the hookup. On top of that, NYX will donate 10 percent of sales from these purchases to the Breast Cancer Awareness Research Foundation. Super.
It may be nearing the end of warm times (unless you live somewhere in the southern part of the country), but that doesn't mean you can't still get your bronzer on. NYX's new Tango With Bronzer Stix ($15 each), creamy in texture, give the perfect light-reflecting glow without being too glittery, shiny, or flashy. Recently, on a daytime date with Mr. Bella, I had about negative two minutes to get ready. It was Bronzer Stix to the rescue. To find out what all the fuss is about, just keep reading.
It's rare that I find an eye shadow that impresses me with its staying power, much less a glittery one, but the NYX glitter palette does the job nicely. And the best part? It's only six bucks.
Basically, it's a set of five "multipurpose" cream glitters, although I can't actually see myself using them anywhere but my eyes. I applied the glitter creams right after I got to work, and by the end of the day they'd barely shifted (which on my hooded eyes is pretty much a miracle). The bronze palette's center color looks and wears a lot like Urban Decay's Midnight Cowboy Rides Again ($17), one of my favorite shadows. All in all, it's a fun and inexpensive way to get festive and a good way to wear glitz on hot nights.
Upper Lips: NYX Round Lipgloss in Fire
Lower Lips: Maybelline Water Shine 3D Collagen in 244
Base: Bare Lips
Those with dry lips like me, fret not. you can wear Maybelline Water Shine 3D Collagen by itself without any lip balm. I think I wanna rock this for New Year's. What do you think?
Last year, beauty brands hoped that black lips would be big. Unless I missed out on a convention of Bauhaus fans, the sooty-kiss look wasn't an enormous success — going dark just didn't work for most women. Will this season be different? From a sales standpoint, probably so, because Twilight Beauty has a black lip gloss. (The Cullen connection alone will mean they'll sell.) The Volturi Twilight Enrapture gloss ($12) in Arsenic is a licorice-scented sheer gloss with light gold shimmer — so your lips can sparkle like a vamp.
Of course, that's not the only place black is popping up. MAC is about to release an all-noir collection that includes three black lip glosses and two black lipsticks. Already on the market: Lipstick Queen in Black Tie Optional, Shu Uemura in Black 099, and NYX lipstick in Black Onyx. Want to take a baby step into this trend? Go for sheer washes over opaque colors, and consider using these sooty shades to darken your existing lip color.
