Get Jennifer Lopez's Retro Love and Glamour Look

For Jennifer Lopez's look for her upcoming fragrance (her 16th scent!), Love & Glamour, celebrity stylist Oribe gave the star some serious Rita Hayworth-inspired pin curls.

For Jennifer Lopez's look for her upcoming fragrance (her 16th scent!), Love & Glamour, celebrity stylist Oribe gave the star some serious Rita Hayworth-inspired pin curls. And if you're thinking about trying out a retro style for a fun night out — or even for Halloween — it's easy to do.

Start by curling the hair with a one- to one-and-a-half-inch barrel curling iron. Next, place the hair in pin curls, allowing them to set for around an hour. Brush out and finish with a spritz of shine-enhancing product, like Oribe Superfine Hairspray ($34).

Watch out for the scent ($49 to $58), which will include notes of Italian mandarin, water lily, and sandalwood, to launch next month at Macy's.

Pin curls are having a resurgence, but not in the traditional 1930s-inspired manner. Whereas spit curls are a form of pin curls, they're actually worn purposefully shaped against the face à la Diane Kruger. However, you can also use a pin curl as a way to coerce the hair to wave or curl in a less structured way.

For the Jonah Hex premiere, for instance, Megan Fox's stylist first used pin curls to create undulating waves in her hairstyle. Kristen Stewart's stylist also used them as a way to make a textured base before pulling her hair back into this pompadour updo. In essence, while pin curls can be slick and worn tightly pinned into a rolled shape, they can also be used kind of like a brushed-out roller set. Find out some pin-curling tips when you read more.

Love It or Hate It? Lily Allen's GQ Party Pin Curls

Lily Allen certainly isn't afraid to experiment with new hairstyles: She's been a brunette, a blonde, and various shades of pink.

Lily Allen certainly isn't afraid to experiment with new hairstyles: She's been a brunette, a blonde, and various shades of pink. Here, her hair is a beautiful shade of black (your favorite color on her) but instead of an unusual color, she's exploring a full head of curls. I can't decide if the curls pinned atop her hair at the GQ's Men of the Year Awards are adorably Betty Boop or just a little too over-the-top. What do you think?
