Do You Take Texture Into Consideration When Applying Makeup?

When choosing your makeup look du jour, do you think about how to best combine the differences in textures, or do you only really think about color? Here's a look from the 2008 Fall runways, that pairs a powder bronzer with a matte lip and subtle dewy eyes. How important is the texture vs. the color of your makeup when you're planning out your look?

Texture is important to me, but if the colors don't go together, I'll choose something else

Color AND texture are both important to me. If one or the other isn't working, then the entire look could appear "off." Make-up selection and application can tend to be an art form.

texture is a huge deal to me. i have very dry, acne prone skin, with eczema. if i use too much foundation because the texture is off, it makes me look 20 years older. or if the shadow is so shimmery/slickery it covers my whole face, it just isn't going to work.

For me, texture plays a part in my makeup-related decision in a multitude of ways. To begin with, I have to consider my skin's natural texture (oily/acne-prone) when selecting a foundation to ensure that the two are compatible (i.e. anything that isn't mattifying or contains oil will only make me look like a baking sheet at best and cause acne at worst). Secondly, there's the unspoken "cream to cream, powder to powder" rule of application: if one cannot apply a cream blush to a matte foundation and/or powdered face because it will cause streaking and one cannot apply a powder blush on top of liquid foundation that hasn't been set with powder.

I have combo skin so texture is something I pay attention to and struggle with everyday. Too matte under my eyes and I look way older than I am, too "dewy" and I look like a greasy teenager. Matte and sheer eyeshadows with glossy lashes, etc... It's a lot of flipping work! :)

both are so important, i wish more people would pay attention to these details when applying makeup.

both are important...but if the color isn't right, it throws the whole look off. Sometimes textures can be tricky and my face will end up looking too cakey and more like a mask if I'm not careful.

of course you need to consider both! Texture is important for your skin current condition while color is a fun way to play up or down.

I most always do a glossy lip with te shimmrey eyes, but pare it way down during the day. I know that a few times I've felt self concious using Urban Decay xxx gloss at work, haha.

I love glossy lips, but I try to avoid pairing it with shimmery or smokey eyes; I go from saucy to OMFG ARE YOU A PUSSYCAT DOLL?! fairly easily.

texture mosdef. Anyone can really wear any color, but the quantity of use with the texture makes an eeeeenormous difference.

I probably care more about the color, but texture's quite essential - I'm not going to pair something metallic with something matte, or high-gloss with too much shimmer...

Texture and color are both very important. I don't like to overload on shimmer or matte but the colors need to work together so I have a lot of choices. Which explains the fact that my train case barely closes anymore. :rotfl:

Ugh! I remember when I first used foundation at age 13, omg, it was some cheap and masky stuff and it made my face look cakey and orangy.

The finish of the makeup of course matters, I think anything too shimmery or bold during the day is a huge no no. But I think overall making sure the colors you wear compliment you is much more important.
