Sometimes called the herringbone, a fishtail braid is yet another twist on the traditional plait. I think this style is easier to learn on someone else's hair — and better to explain with pictures than tell with words alone — so get a friend and get started with this step-by-step slide show.

Decoding the world of fragrance is not an especially easy task. Although most of us can probably discern a fruity scent from a woodsy one, it's harder to identify certain smells without going through training (as Chandler Burr has said). That's why I delight in these Florascent fragrance trial collections ($26.50).

Do you sometimes wonder why your makeup slides off after just a few hours? How about the way your foundation cakes every now and then — what's up with that, anyway?
You probably have all of the basics in your makeup bag: foundation, lipstick, and mascara.

The two-in-one beauty product has come a long way from Pert Plus. While anti-acne creams have been infused with anti-aging ingredients (and vice versa) for a few years now, DDF's new Wrinkle Resist Plus Pore Minimizer ($85) addresses something more specific, and promises instant results.
This is a big claim, so after applying it, I stood at my bathroom mirror waiting for my pores to disappear.

A friend of mine got a facial in Boston and fell head over heels for a moisturizer from SkinCeuticals called Emollience ($50). Her rave reviews about how her skin looked even, supple and hydrated after just one month made me run faster than Forrest Gump to the store. So far I've been using it for two weeks and here are my thoughts:
Emollience has a thin, slip-like texture, but it delivers heavy moisture.

Last month, Paul & Joe launched a few new nail and body products for Summer 2008. Of the bunch, my favorite product is the Refreshing Leg Emulsion ($30). This citrusy-mint scented lotion is actually formulated with oil to penetrate deep into your skin, however, it dries to a powdery, velvety-soft finish.

America's sweetheart, Reese Witherspoon, sure is working doubletime as the Avon spokesperson by participating in the Avon Foundation Walk For Breast Cancer in Washington, DC this weekend. Not only do I love her for being such a do-gooder, but she's pretty darn adorable in that plaited ponytail.
Becoming the new Avon lady means that we'll be seeing much more of that crisp smile and beautiful skin in the coming months.

The next time you see a woman whip out her lipstick, pay close attention. What looks like a lipstick might be something else entirely. Check out this slide show to see the range of crazy items disguised as an innocent tube of lipstick — and let me know if you'd ever use them yourself.

The other day, a fellow Sugar editor asked me how long your hair brush should last. When I told her that a good one can last years if cleaned regularly, she just kind of cocked her head and make a funny sound. I realized then that it hadn't even occurred to her to that you can clean a hairbrush!
