How-To: Ashanti's American Music Awards Makeup

Last night at the American Music Awards, Ashanti looked like a golden goddess. Instead of playing it safe and staying subtle with her makeup, she opted to pair metallic gold eyeliner with gorgeous soft pink lips and shimmery pink eyeshadow. This contrast worked to enhance her smooth and glowing skin. Kudos to Ashanti for taking a risk on the red carpet!

FACE: Since you want your eyes to stand out the most, your face should look smooth, hydrated, and even. Try a slightly luminous foundation like Stila Illuminating Liquid Foundation in 60 Watt . Blend well, then use a setting powder if you feel the shimmer is too strong.
CHEEKS: Use a dusty-mauve or rose blush on the apples of your cheeks and blend outwards towards your hairline. A blush with a little bit of sparkle like this Lorac Blush in Soul mixed with a highlighter is a perfect way to achieve this sexy look.
EYES: Begin by applying a shimmer beige shadow like one side of the Nars Duo Eyeshadow in Sugarland all over your lid. Then use the other shade (the sparkling pink) in the crease and blend. Line your upper lids with a black-liquid liner and extend the line so that you create dramatic wings. Next, apply a gold-liquid eyeliner like this Chantecaille Luminous Eye Liner in A Crescendo on the bottom and top with two coats of black mascara.
LIPS: Lastly, choose a sweet-pink lipstick and lip gloss that matches the deepest pink in your eyeshadow. Something bubble gummy and mod such as Nars Lipstick in Masai topped with a little bit of Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Reflect Lip Gloss in Organza Pink is just what you're looking for!

Oh Solange, it looks like we have a case of the DTMs (AKA dyed to match) here. Miss Knowles must have loved the ruby red color of her satin pumps so much that she decided to have the exact color painted on her lips. I think the color works well on her feet. Unfortunately, I can't say the same thing about it on her face. The color just looks too drastically different from her champagne gown-and it doesn't help that her eye makeup looks a little overdone as well. And while we're at it, I would have preferred a more glamorous up-do with this particular look. You know my opinion, but what's yours?

Love It or Hate It? Taylor Swift's American Music Awards Look

Country star Taylor Swift is a teenager, but she's looking quite grown-up at the American Music Awards. I love seeing a curly-haired girl embrace her natural waves, and since she's so young, pulling off ice-blue metallic eyeliner is easy-peasy. I'm just not sure if the wavy hair and the eyeliner and the detailed neckline is too much all at once. Maybe it is, but then again, Taylor's 17-and if anyone can pull off a hodgepodge of styles, it's someone her age. What do you think?

Love It or Hate It? Carrie Underwood's American Music Awards Look

Carrie Underwood walked the red carpet ready for spring in her lwd. The same can be said for her choice of makeup. And while my girl Fab isn't loving her dress, I'm definitely liking her look from the neck up. Her fresh face is given a rosy kiss with just a hint of blush, her lips look subtle and sweet, but what I'm loving is what she's done around the eye. She went for a dramatically dark liner but added a hint of shimmery white underneath the eye to really make the eye pop. I'm liking her look; are you?

Love It or Hate It? Kellie Pickler's American Music Awards Look

Kellie Pickler looks pleased as punch to be at the AMAs. I like how she went with pale blue accents on her eyes, which bring out the shine of her hair. Which... brings us to the hair. The style is pretty cool, and it's a big change from her CMA hairstyle from last week. But the color seems a little bolder in its blondeness. Maybe it's just odd lighting-I'm willing to give anyone the benefit of the doubt-but this shade seems a little less natural than some of her earlier hues. What do you think?

The fine Miss Bynes reminds me of Alicia Silverstone here. Maybe it's her smile, or the sparkle in her eye, or the wavy hair. As cute as Amanda is, I wish she'd touched up her roots. Even though Vogue says they're in style, it just detracts from her otherwise put-together look. Or maybe it's just me. What do you think?

Miley Cyrus looked perfectly pretty at tonight's American Music Awards. Her soft lip color complements her red dress beautifully, her subtle eyeliner really makes her gorgeous hazel eyes sparkle, and her blonde highlights and caramel lowlights add dimension to her sleek hair. All of that being said, I think bangs would work well for Miss Hannah Montana. A wide variety of bangs could suit Miley's face shape, and I especially like the idea of side-swept bangs. What do you think? Would Miley have looked even more gorgeous with bangs, or do you prefer her look as is?

Battle of the Bearded: Blunt Vs. Groban

Both James Blunt and Josh Groban have scruffy facial hair and the messy-long thing going on. But which one wears it better? Alicia Keys is looking positively feral at the AMAs-and that's a good thing, if you ask me. The cat-eye eyeliner and extended lashes suit her well, complementing the shimmery eye shadow on her lids. (In fact, I might dig out my Nars Klondike shadow and see if I can mimic Alicia's makeup.) Plus, her hair's got just a little bit of wildness in it-making her one pretty kitty indeed. What do you think?
