How-To: Ashanti's American Music Awards Makeup

Last night at the American Music Awards, Ashanti looked like a golden goddess. Instead of playing it safe and staying subtle with her makeup, she opted to pair metallic gold eyeliner with gorgeous soft pink lips and shimmery pink eyeshadow. This contrast worked to enhance her smooth and glowing skin. Kudos to Ashanti for taking a risk on the red carpet!

FACE: Since you want your eyes to stand out the most, your face should look smooth, hydrated, and even. Try a slightly luminous foundation like Stila Illuminating Liquid Foundation in 60 Watt . Blend well, then use a setting powder if you feel the shimmer is too strong.
CHEEKS: Use a dusty-mauve or rose blush on the apples of your cheeks and blend outwards towards your hairline. A blush with a little bit of sparkle like this Lorac Blush in Soul mixed with a highlighter is a perfect way to achieve this sexy look.
EYES: Begin by applying a shimmer beige shadow like one side of the Nars Duo Eyeshadow in Sugarland all over your lid. Then use the other shade (the sparkling pink) in the crease and blend. Line your upper lids with a black-liquid liner and extend the line so that you create dramatic wings. Next, apply a gold-liquid eyeliner like this Chantecaille Luminous Eye Liner in A Crescendo on the bottom and top with two coats of black mascara.
LIPS: Lastly, choose a sweet-pink lipstick and lip gloss that matches the deepest pink in your eyeshadow. Something bubble gummy and mod such as Nars Lipstick in Masai topped with a little bit of Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Reflect Lip Gloss in Organza Pink is just what you're looking for!

American Idol Reunion Rules At the AMAs

Last night was all about the AI alums at the American Music Awards. Carrie Underwood and Chris Daughtry (and his band) walked away with three glass pyramids apiece while Justin Timberlake won two, but had to accept via satellite. He seemed so thrilled about it, too. Check out the full list of winners here. Fergie got pretty emotional during her acceptance speech for Best Female Artist, but at least she remembered to thank hot Josh watching her from the audience. Alicia Keys didn't win any awards, but her performance was my favorite of the night. Another highlight was Beyonce and Sugarland's version of "Irreplacable," though maybe I just love that song no matter what. That wasn't B's biggest moment though - Usher gave a a sweet speech (but has some reading trouble) giving her the 5th ever special International Artist Award. Congrats to all the artists filling up their mantles with AMA statues.

Sexy Men and Sweethearts Sing Their Hearts Out

AMA winner Fergie opened the show last night with a medley of her latest and greatest hits. It was a strong start for a show that definitely included some memorable performances including glow in the dark dancer, Chris Brown and Rihanna who looked way better on stage than on the red carpet. Beyonce dressed down when she joined Sugarland for a duet of her hit Irreplaceable. Sexy Lenny (yes I have a huge thing for him) wore his usual all black as he sang a soon to be hit song from his new album. My favorite performance of the night was Alicia Keys (check out the video below). Not only was her voice killer but the songs she mixed together definitely got the crowd on their feet. She is a wonderful performer and even if I'm not used to seeing her do choreographed dance moves, she pulled it off. We have a feeling her album is going to knock Jay-Z off the top spot this week.

The ladies mixed it up on the red carpet at the American Music Awards last night, but most opted to show off their stems. Never one to blend in with the crowd, Beyonce decided to go with the mermaid look that was a favorite back at the Emmys. What did you think about all the red carpet looks and beauty? Rihanna usually kills it on the red carpet, but we all agree that she missed the mark this time around. It's Black and White for Men at the AMAs

The men kept it pretty boring for last night's American Music Awards in LA. Seriously, not a single color among 'em? It almost makes Taye's business casual khaki pants look daring, almost. Lenny looked sexy, as he does, while Akon was dressed for the tundra. Is it just me or does he look perpetually cold because of those huge jackets? Thankfully the women were there to spice up the red carpet and add some shimmer and shine, because by themselves the men weren't taking any chances. Maybe next red carpet Seacrest should try out some color? Something nice and bright, perhaps in velvet? Just a simple request. Check out the full list of the night's winners here.

American Music Award Noms Announced, Rih Nabs One

Rihanna took advantage of the crazy warm October NYC weather in a dangerously low cut shirt (thankfully for her there was no wind) with her amazingly cute little puppy Marley in her arms for an afternoon of shopping. Loving her yellow nails - looks like she got Fab's fashion week memo about the color. Rihanna's had a huge year, but I'm still impressed that she can draw such a crowd in Soho. Her big 2007 isn't over yet - the American Music Awards Nominations just came out and she got a nod for Female Artist of the Year. Beyonce, JT and Chris Daughtry led the pack with three each, check out the full list of nominees here.
