How-To: Molly Sims's Fashion Rocks Makeup

At last week's Fashion Rocks event, Cami Vaught, The Balm makeup artist, created a luminous, sun-kissed look for model/actress Molly Sims. "The overall effect was natural, but sexy; dramatic, but not overdone - perfect to go with the gorgeous Donna Karan that she wore," said Vaught.

Face - For foundation, Vaught used Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer ($24) with a light dusting of Sexy Mama Translucent Powder ($18) to set. For under the eyes and as an eyeshadow primer, she applied Time Balm Concealer ($17).
Eyeliner and Mascara - For drama, Vaught lined Sim's eyes with a black, water-resistant eyeliner called Pick-Up Liner in Romeo ($18) underneath the upper lashline to make them stand out. The look was intensified with several coats of Two Timer ($19) mascara.
Eyeshadow - "I used a mix of bronzes, browns, and golds to create a sexy, understated take on a 'smoky eye'," said Vaught. A base was created with Luscious Lani ($15) from lashline to browbone. Next, she applied Shameless Shana ($15), a warm bronze, in her crease and on the bottom lashline. To add some intensity, Caught in the Act Courtney ($15), a deeper shade of brown, was used on the outer corners of the crease. This shade was also used to define the upper area of the eye by smudging it as close as possible to the lashline. Finally, Mischievous Marissa ($15), a luminous gold, was added the lid and blended. "Using a lighter, luminous shade on the lid helps open up the eyes," she said.

Eyebrows - To highlight and emphasize the shape of her brows, Time Balm Concealer ($17) was used once again. A light gold mineral shadow was applied as a highlight in the inner corners of her eyes and under the browbone. Vaught used No Money No Honey ($14) to achieve this effect.
Cheeks - A stain was applied to the apples of the cheeks as a base in Stainiac in Prom Queen ($14) and Hot Mama Blush ($18) was swiped on top to make the color "pop." For more definition, Sims's cheeks were contoured with Bahama Mama Bronzer ($18) under her cheekbones, on top of her forehead, and along the jawline. "Just think of making a '3' on each side of your face - starting at your forehead, going down to your cheek bones, and finishing on your jaw line," Vaught said.
Lips - "Since her eyes were the focal point, we went with a soft, pink, glossy lip," she said. First, Plump Your Pucker Lip Gloss in Water My Melon ($14) was applied and then Balm Shelter SPF Lip Gloss in Girl Next Door ($14) was layered over it for extra shine.

Vivica A. Fox Shares Her Best Beauty Advice

There was plenty of pretty to go around at Fashion Rocks, but Vivica A. Fox had one of my favorite looks of the night. It was retro without being costumey, elegant without pretense, and polished without being piled-on. This is how glamour is done!

Strolling with her buddy, fashion stylist Phillip Bloch, she stopped to chat about her look. "I wanted to do a little throwback to Hollywood," she said. "Phillip did my hair; I usually do the pullback with a bun, like classic Elizabeth Taylor, but he said, 'No, let’s have some fun and do a little Dita Von Teese.'"

Up close, Vivica's complexion has a healthy glow. Her secret? Steam and exfoliation. "I take steam showers twice a day. I’m very fortunate to have a steam shower at my house," she revealed. "Once a month I get microdermabrasion. I use Dermalogica products, I drink lots of water and I try to keep my spirit happy."

To that end, when asked to share the best beauty advice she's ever received, she said:

To get out of my own way. To be a lady. To embrace the joys of life and to get out of my own way. In our twenties, women are fighting to find out who and what we are. Once you accept yourself and like yourself regardless of past mistakes, and you look forward and not backwards, that’s when you’ll really feel beautiful.

Sage advice - although microdermabrasion certainly doesn't hurt, either.

Love It or Hate It? Hayden Panettiere's Fashion Rocks Look

Well, last but certainly not least is Miss Hayden Panettiere. It looks like we were holding out for a hero. Look past my pun and concentrate on Hayden's skin. Her makeup artist certainly has the fresh, flawless complexion look down pat. Hayden complemented her shiny dress, with skin that was just slightly more matte. The cheeks were lightly rosy, but most of the attention is focused on her eyes. She's wearing black liner, false lashes, and a dark blue shadow that creates a wide-eyed look; which almost diverted my attention from her perfectly plucked brows. What do you think about Hayden's look at Fashion Rocks?

Love It or Hate It? Tyra Banks' Fashion Rocks Look

For someone who tells catwalk hopefuls to "smile with their eyes," Tyra Banks looks a little like a wax figure of herself at Fashion Rocks. As I'm sure you're all aware of the unfortunate hair situation going on here, let's look beyond that for a moment, and appreciate her glossy, cherry lips and well-applied false lashes. As a whole, she might have overdone things, but that's not really a surprise. Do you like the look she's going for?

Love It or Hate It? Natasha Bedingfield's Fashion Rocks Look

Dust off your Ramones albums, and start tapping your feet to the tunes of The Clash. Natasha Bedingfield's in town rocking some major punk style. How much more hardcore can you get than with some tightly shorn hair on one side swept up into a wildly teased updo on the other? As for the makeup, she's keeping it real with her hard-edged smokey eye. Sweetly pink lips and cheeks lend a contrasting detail. This look definitely doesn't have me sedated. What do you think?

Love It or Hate It? Lil' Mama's Fashion Rocks Look

As usual, Lil' Mama takes her look over the top - top hat, that is. Whether you think she's channeling Fred Astaire or Slash, Lil' Mama is certainly continuing to display a penchant for headgear. Accessories aside, her lashes are spiky and she went lighter on the eyeliner than usual. And, of course, her lip gloss most definitely "be poppin.'" Has she redeemed herself to the 88% of you that hated her Teen Choice Awards look?

Love It or Hate It? Lydia Hearst's Fashion Rocks Look

Socialite, model, and occasional actress Lydia Hearst rocked Fashion Rocks with a revealing red gown. She went just as dramatic with her hair with a high curly updo that is a tad reminiscent of the Bride of Frankenstein, in a beautiful, model-y sort of way. Even more stunning, though, is her flawless complexion. Her face just glows, the smoky eye being the focal point. Unfortunately, I can't help but notice that her foundation is a little too dark for her skin - note the line on her neck. Other than that, I like the look. Do you?

Love It or Hate It? Solange Knowles's Fashion Rocks Look

With a bedazzle-y mesh (or is it fur? or feathers?) shrug, Solange Knowles had to keep it a little more toned down in the makeup department. It looks like she's joined the in-crowd with her side-swept updo and cascading waved fringe. And check out those eyes - long and separated lashes give further boost to the style. A brilliantly pink gloss makes her high-fashion look complete. Tell me what you think - are you liking Solange's hair and makeup?

Love It or Hate It? Fergie's Fashion Rocks Look

Fergie kept her hair and makeup toned-down to complement her boho top and skinny black pants at Fashion Rocks. Her uneven part and loose waves definitely take the edge off her head-to-toe Gucci outfit. While it's refreshing to see Fergie's makeup a little more soft than usual, I would have loved a little bit more dimension in her color scheme. What do you think?

Love It or Hate It? Miley Cyrus's Fashion Rocks Look

Miley and her hair extensions rocked the red carpet in a vision of silver. Just admire how her dress glimmers in this photo. You know what else is shining? Her makeup; her skin has the same dewy glow as her gown. Her cheeks are especially vibrant with a brownish-red blush that really pops. The rest of her look is pretty par for the course for Miley, but that isn't a bad thing. Why fix something that's not broke? How much are you digging her radiant look?
