Miss Britney Jean Spears is back! At last year's disastrous VMAs, she looked lost, hurt, and confused. But last night, Brit picked up a few awards, giving her plenty to smile about.

What a difference a year makes! I haven't covered Britney's style very much over the last year, because let's face it: She's had much more important things to worry about than how she looks. With that said, though, she seems much more confident and healthy these days, and if looking this coiffed and glossed is part of her comeback, I'd say she's doing a fine job. Would you?

Love it or Hate It? Heidi Montag's MTV VMAs Look

Heidi Montag of The Hills might not be smiling at her former pal Lauren Conrad, but you'd never know there's an ounce of tension judging from this happy photo here. Her wide smile and pink-toned makeup are friendly and sweet. But, the intense, thick black liner lets us know that she's got a bit of an edge (as do those huge earrings). Her hair's pretty standard - blonde and wavy. What do you think about her bad girl/good girl look?

Love It or Hate It? Ashlee Simpson's MTV VMA Look

Expectant mom Ashlee Simpson wore basic black at this year's VMAs, and kept her makeup simple with a teal eyeliner and smooth hair. Since she's likely not coloring her hair at the moment, Ashlee had fun with length. A lot of length. She's definitely a candidate for our hair extensions quiz series. It's a cliché, but she seems to have a bit of that pregnancy glow too. Tell me, what do you think of Ashlee's VMA look?

Love It or Hate It? Nicky Hilton's MTV VMAs Look

Nicky Hilton looks like she could be one of the backup girls from the Robert Palmer video, "Simply Irresistible." She's definitely got the dress to match, so I'm assuming the look is an homage to that great video. How appropriate; this is MTV after all. The quintessential Palmer look is mainly about the hair, and Nicky's is slicked back to perfection. She went a little softer on the lips than the Palmer girls, but the eyes are fit for the video. It's interesting how heavy she went on the upper lid, but not as much on the lower. What do you think, is Nicky "Simply Irresistible?"

Love It or Hate It? Christina Aguilera's MTV VMAs Look

With the numbvr of makeup artists and hairstylists clamoring to be able to say they dolled up a celebrity for the red carpet, it can be frustrating when one of them shows up looking a little underdone. That certainly isn't the case here, so I'm ready to give Christina Aguilera two thumbs up for having a dramatic look. It's clear Christina really went for it with her two-tone wild cat eye, false lashes and eye-grazing bangs. Do you like?

Love It or Hate It? Miley Cyrus' MTV VMAs Look

Do you have a signature look? Well, I think Miley's got her own signature look down pat. Long, flowing waves are the epitome of her style, along with a darkly lined smoky eye and pink lips to complete. The young talent dips into the past with a flirty and fun vintage flapper-esque dress. But tell me what you think? Is she the bee's knees or does it fall a bit flat?

Love It or Hate It? Lindsay Lohan's MTV VMAs Look

I'll try not to sway your opinion too much in this poll, but I have to gush over Lindsay Lohan a little. Seriously, this girl has come so far this past year, and I think her hair and makeup look gorgeous at tonight's VMAs. Her hair color is very close to your favorite color on her, copper; but, even better is the style. The side-swept bangs with loose waves definitely conjures up images of old Hollywood, but the color keeps it current. Her skin looks perfectly clear too, with most of the attention focused on the eyes. I'm giving Lohan a brava. Are you?

Love It or Hate It? Pink's MTV VMAs Look

Here's another singer with a penchant for the bottle - the hair color bottle, of course. I can't get over how super platinum she's gone. Seriously, achieving that kind of light-blonde, practically white color is one amazing achievement. Hair color aside, you have to agree that her choppy mohawk is super severe. Some icy eyes and pink lips add further rocker chic style. You've already told me you prefer her hair blonde, so tell me about this particular look - are you "chill" with her frosty style?

Love It or Hate It? Taylor Swift's MTV VMAs Look

I would have loved to see Taylor Swift do something a little more interesting with her hair and makeup, but the multiple costume changes she's pulling as pre-show fashion correspondent, guest and nominee might have made that a challenge. The winged black eyeliner is pretty, but I can't take my eyes off her perfect skin. If only my skin behaved so well at 18! Do you guys think her look is too safe, or do you love it?

Love It or Hate It? Solange Knowles's MTV VMAs Look

Solange Knowles went with a completely different look than the one she was sporting on Friday at the Fashion Rocks event in New York. There she wore a subdued side-swept updo (that you all weren't feeling), but at the VMAs she went with a head full of spiral curls. And, I, for one, am loving the transformation. It's very reminiscent of Diana Ross in the '70s, but that definitely goes with the image the younger Knowles sister is currently trying to convey. Add to that a deep berry lip that matches her dress and you've got a look that's both retro and current. You likey?
