How-To: Blake Lively's Teen Choice Awards Hair

You all really loved Blake Lively's look at the 2008 Teen Choice Awards, judging by the poll results. This casual updo showcases her golden highlights and gives her a sassy yet casual vibe. Best of all, it's the polar opposite of structured, every-hair-in-its-place updos - so you don't need to be a Sally Hershberger or Frederic Fekkai to recreate it at home.

Step one: Start with freshly washed hair, then blow-dry it until it's about 70-80 percent dry. Apply a styling cream like Bumble and Bumble's Styling Lotion for some texture and soft hold. Continue to blow-dry using a round brush, focusing on lifting your roots for volume.
Step two: Create a side part. It doesn't have to be perfect - the whole style is meant to be a little unkempt.
Step three: Separate your entire bang area from one ear all the way to the next. Do this by taking a chunk of hair starting at your hairline and continuing about two inches back. Gather from one side of the part down to your ear, and then do the same thing on the other side.
Step four: With an elastic band, create a low-slung ponytail, keeping the bangs separate.
Step five: Now here's the fun part! Loosely twist pieces of your bangs back into the ponytail. Secure them with bobby pins, or tuck them into the ponytail band itself. Concentrate on the heavy side of the part, twisting two or three sections. On the not-so-heavy side, twist only one or two smaller sections. Let a nice piece of your bangs hang down, like Blake does near her center part. If any pieces fall out, tuck them behind your ear or leave them the way they naturally fall. Blake's look has such a tousled feel.
Step six: For the final touches, lightly curl the ends of your hair around your face and throughout the ponytail. Take a one-inch section from the ponytail and wrap it around the elastic band to hide any pins; secure with a well-hidden bobby pin. Add a touch of lightweight texturizing hairspray, like Frederic Fekkai's Coiff Oceanique Tousled Wave Spray ($23), and you are ready to go!

Love It or Hate It? Minka Kelly's Teen Choice Awards Look

Minka Kelly looked simple and lovely at tonight's Teen Choice Awards. There's not a lot of razzle-dazzle to her hair, just a simple middle part with a low ponytail. I guess she saved the fireworks for her shoes, which I'm assuming she had no idea would blend into the carpet. In addition to her hair, Minka used a light hand with the makeup, but instead of being boring, it's fresh and gorgeous. So, I give Minka one thumb up. How about you?

Love It or Hate it? Blake Lively's Teen Choice Awards Look

What a great shade of purple in that asymmetrical dress! I just wish Blake had gone a little bit brighter with her makeup to really play it up. She chose some paler colors, but think of how cool some hot pink gloss might have been. Her loosely pulled back twisty ponytail is playful, and it shows off those amazing blonde highlights. What do you think of this look?

Love It Or Hate It? Sophia Bush's Teen Choice Awards Look

Sophia Bush has a great haircut that's longer in the front than the back. But is it just me, or does it look a little... crunchy? Don't get me wrong, it's nowhere near disastrous. But a center part may have shown off her gorgeous face a little more. What do you think?

Love It or Hate It? Lil' Mama's Teen Choice Awards Look

When Lil' Mama raps about loving lip gloss, you know she's doing it from the heart. Just check those shiny lips for proof! Everything about this look is sugary-sweet and ruffly, and her makeup and hair are so cute. But I'm just not feeling that giant bow - it's way too Holly Hobbie for such a cool girl. Are you digging it, or do you think she should have ditched it?

Oh, Kristen - you are my "hero." You've managed to make a somewhat punky look appear friendly and edgy all at once.

I'm really into Kristen's hair, which has a slight wave on the ends and a cool, pin-straight bang to frame her face. The smoky copper eyes and rosy-hued lips and cheeks give her an undeniable hipness. I like a girl with an edge, and this would work well at a rock club. What do you think?

Love It or Hate It? Miley Cyrus's Teen Choice Awards Look

Miley Cyrus, who despite being the host of this evening's Teen Choice Awards, found time to walk the red carpet, in her red-hued hair. The hair style is very Miley, with long flowing curls with extensions (luckily, not as obvious as this year's Grammys look). But her makeup is a little more subdued than we usually see it. I think that's a move in the right direction; after all, it can be difficult to find an age appropriate look for such young starlets. Overall her look is very fresh and clean, with a sun-kissed glow. Do you think she's the hostess with the mostest?

Love It Or Hate It? Katharine McPhee's Teen Choice Awards Look

Katharine McPhee's icy take on the smoky eye really makes her brown peepers stand out.
