Backstage Beauty: Peter Som

While FabSugar attended the Peter Som fashion show last season, they were unable to make it on this trip-but that's okay. BellaSugar's got the goods on how to create the sexy, tousled hair from this season's Spring 2008 show.

The goal of lead hairstylist Eugene Souleiman was to have runway hair that looked fresh, young and natural, with a slight edge. He is quoted saying, "It's the look of the uptown girl that parties downtown."

And on a makeup note, was anyone else surprised they the models weren't wearing the Peter Som for Lancome lipstick? I guess that is just so Fall '07.

Step 1: Cleanse and nourish hair with the appropriate shampoo and conditioning treatment for your hair type.
Step 2: Spray hair with a little bit of ghd miracle mist to control fly-aways and frizz. Next, spray on some ghd thermal protector to ensure hair won't get damaged during the heat styling process.
Step 3: Then, to achieve the natural tousled look, use the ghd new styler (as opposed to a standard flat iron) on the part of the hair closest to the scalp and bring it down only mid-way. Do not iron the ends of the hair.
Step 4: Lastly, spray on a generous amount of ghd sea spray to create matte, beachy waves. Use your fingers to separate any curls that seem overly defined.

Backstage Beauty: VPL

Last week, our FabSugar team attended the VPL Spring 2008 Fashion Show. While the clothing was sheer and chic, and the makeup was pretty and plain, the hair was va va voom!

While most of us do whatever we can to fight the frizzies, hairstylist extraordinaire Neil Moodie, created a wild, crimped 'do that made those frizzies, kinda flattering. All of the products he used were from Bumble and Bumble, and the entire process is relatively easy to achieve.

Step 1: - Spray dry, clean hair with Bumble and Bumble Tonic and then work in a little bit of Bumble and Bumble Styling Creme to the roots and lengths of your hair.
Step 2: Next, on the underside of the head, lightly crimp small sections of hair. When hair is cool, brush out the hair to create volume. Next, gently tease (back-comb) the hair at the roots.
Step 3: Flip head over and spray with Bumble and Bumble Does It All. As final step, flip hair up and then brush it out really well one more time (yes, it will be quite full looking).

Love It or Hate It? Heatherette

Crazy club-kid duo Heatherette isn't known for being subtle, and its models' hairstyles were as over-the-top as you'd expect. I thought it was a lot of fun, and very young-it reminded me of the way my friends and I would play "hairdresser" as girls.

If you like the winged metallic eyeliner shown here on Chanel Iman (yes, that's her real name), you'll be excited to know that Heatherette will soon have its own makeup line, complete with the lovely Lydia Hearst as its campaign face!

Love it or Hate It? White Winged Eyeliner at BCBG

On Wednesday afternoon, the highly anticipated BCBG Spring 2008 show took center stage in the Bryant Park tents. FabSugar seemed to be smitten by the clothing, but I'm not entirely sold on the makeup choice to match. Here are a couple of pictures of the pretty Jessica Stam from before and during the show. How do you feel about this white winged eyeliner look?

Backstage Beauty: Mara Hoffman

Last night, Fab and I were transported to the Tropics-if only mentally-at the Mara Hoffman show. While Fab chatted with the designer herself, I trotted backstage to chat with the hair and makeup teams. (Yep, that's the actual backstage area!)

While watching the models get done up, I chatted with hair stylist Sandra Yu. Her goal, she said, was to make the hair simultaneously sexy, raunchy, clean and beachy. I think she nailed it-the models' hair had lots of movement and looked natural. To get their locks shiny, Yu used Rusk weightless glossy hairspray and Rusk shine spray.

Andrea Helgadottir from MAC shared her inspiration for the makeup: glowy, very colorful, sexy, and just plain beautiful. She used corals, pinks and greens on eyes, a little gold shimmer on cheeks, all balanced by pink lips. The colors are part of MAC's forthcoming summer 2008 collection, so stay tuned. Backstage Beauty: Alice + Olivia

Earlier this week, Fab reviewed the Alice + Olivia spring line, while Yum reported on the yummy cupcakes that were served. And now I've got the scoop on the models' hair.

The theme of the show was Alice in Wonderland, and it was held at the NYC boutique as opposed to a ballroom or the Bryant Park Tents. How quaint! Just so that you feel like you've really experienced this event, I've just recently gotten all of the information on how the wonderful (and I'm not just saying that because he's my hairdresser), Fabrice Gili from the Frederic Fekkai Salon in Soho, who styled all of the models' hair.

Step 1: Apply Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Lifting and Texturizing Spray Gel generously to the hair to give it a light hold.
Step 2: Next, blow dry hair very straight and apply a cold shot of air to reduce frizz.
Step 3: Finally, since bangs are blunt cut and full, use a round brush to give them volume at the roots and then go over them with your dryer using a paddle brush to ensure they lie flat. Finish by Spraying Fekkai Coiff Fini Sheer Hold Hairspray for added hold and shine.

Backstage Beauty: JustSweet

Yesterday afternoon, Jennifer Lopez debuted her new clothing line called JustSweet during New York Fashion Week. The clothes are slightly younger and hipper than her previous Sweetface collections. (Check out Fab's review.) I think it's cute, but as I was looking at the pictures, I realized that I had flipped through them a few times without even noticing anything other than the makeup.

Charlotte Tilbury was the makeup artist responsible for creating this bold eyed, flawless face and a "sweet" pink lip. She used Flirt! Cosmetics cosmetics, and I've been lucky enough to get the scoop on the product breakdown.

Backstage Beauty: Thakoon

On Friday afternoon, Thakoon unveiled its Spring 2008 collection. The theme of the show was a narrative about a young girl who ventures from the city to Hawaii to seek out a more resort-y and relaxed style of clothing and makeup. Gucci Westman, the famous makeup artist who styled the show using Lancome products, envisioned a stylish Japanese surfer girl for the look.

Gucci began by applying different pink colors to the the lips. The next thing she knew, she and Thakoon had come up with an idea to create a Pout-a-Porter limited-edition lipstick. The new color is a translucent, cool, creamy stain. It has a beige undertone mixed with a fleshy pink as well as a blue fuchsia-I love it!

After you've applied the new Lancome Pout-a-Porter Thakoon Lipstick (it won't be out until spring 2008, so substitute your own color until then), focus on the rest of the skin.
Keep in mind that you are looking for a bronzed and minimalist look. On your cheeks, lightly dust Lancome Blush Subtil in Cappucine on the high parts of your cheekbones and then add a little bit of Lancome Magique Blush in Mocha Cremefor a dewy and darker effect.
Mix Lancome Le Crayon Poudre in Brunette and Sable and apply it to your brow for strong definition using a Giorgio Armani Eye Contour Brush. Blend well.
Next, take your Lancome Color Design Eye Shadow in Couture and use it under the eye to make the eye look like it's floating. Apply a very, very light amount of Shu Uemura Eye Shadow in Matte Baby Blue to the lid and blend well so that it's almost impossible to detect!

Backstage Beauty: Charlotte Ronson

Last night at the Charlotte Ronson Spring 2008 Fashion Show, the beauty look was contemporary and sophisticated yet girlie-just like the designer's clothing.

Makeup was done by the famed and fancy British artist Charlie Green who used only Flirt! Cosmetics. Hair was styled by Sandra Yu, who also designed the hair for Mara Hoffman.

Love It or Hate It? Tight 'Tails and Nude Faces at Josh Goot

Greetings from New York Fashion Week, everyone! The shows officially started this morning, but a few designers went ahead of the crowd and showed last night. You should have seen Fab at last night's Josh Goot show-she is just crazy for his dresses.

While Fab made notes on the clothes, I was eyeing the slicked-back hair and low-key makeup. Stylist Alan White for Goldwell wrapped tight ponytails with silver, and MAC makeup artist Philippe Chansel gave the models matte, natural faces. (He used Micronized Airbrush Foundation without the airbrush, and MAC Lip Erase to take down the lip color.) But what really got me excited was the soft silver powder on the backs of the models' necks-totally unexpected and absolutely fitting for Goot's modern-girl dresses. What do you think of it?
