Backstage Beauty: Nathan Jenden

At the Nathan Jenden spring 2008 fashion show in London, the hair look was relaxed, long and loose with a rough texture. Nathan collaborated with hair stylist Neil Moodie, who used products from Bumble and Bumble.

Neil's inspiration came from an eclectic creative vision. He imagined a modern version of a Victorian ballerina dancing hip-hop in the jungle and he executed the look by choosing natural looking, "un-done" long, tousled hair that doesn't get brushed.

Step 1: Since Neil Moodie did not use a brush to create this look, simply wash, condition, towel-dry hair and begin by prepping hair with Bumble and Bumble Tonic Lotion, Prep and some Styling Créme . Blow-dry roughly, using only your fingers to separate the hair.
Step 2: Next, take a thin flat iron and create a little bit of a wave only to the middle of the hair strands. To do this, wrap sections of hair around the iron once, then hold it for a few seconds and move the iron up and down the length of the hair to loosen the curl. Keep the crown flat and leave the ends untouched. When you're finished, mist hair with some Does it All hairspray.
Step 3: Lastly, for extra volume and length, you can add on hairpieces or extensions. Part hair on the side so it doesn't have a hippie feel to it. As a final touch, sprinkle on some Hair Powder to create a matte and natural look.

Backstage Beauty: Christopher Kane

Last week at the Christopher Kane fashion show in London, the clothing colors were soft and romantic in light blues, muted greys and nudes. Fittingly, the makeup look was clean and fresh-to the point of it looking almost bare-faced.

Skin was matte, lips were flushed and cheeks had that natural, just-pinched look. Makeup artist Gucci Westman used Lancome products to create a look from the 1976 film Carrie. (That is, Sissy Spacek's look before the bloody prom.) If you like what you see, you'll be happy: Rumor has it that Christopher Kane and Lancome are working on a fun makeup project together for 2008!

Step 1: Use only a touch of Lancome Aqua Fusion Cream on the skin and then tissue it off to create a matte, natural look.
Step 2: By adding a touch of Magique Blush in Cinnamon Glaze to your face, you can help contour your cheekbones. Start off with a light dust and blend well. Remember, you can always add more if you want to.
Step 3:Then add some Primordiale Optimum Lip to enhance your natural lip color. If this just doesn't feel like enough color, you can also add some Color Design Blush in Pret A Plum to the lips.
Step 4: For a touch of definition, add a light layer of Color Design Eye Shadow in Click to your creases. Again, blend well.

Backstage Beauty: VPL

Last week, our FabSugar team attended the VPL Spring 2008 Fashion Show. While the clothing was sheer and chic, and the makeup was pretty and plain, the hair was va va voom!

While most of us do whatever we can to fight the frizzies, hairstylist extraordinaire Neil Moodie, created a wild, crimped 'do that made those frizzies, kinda flattering. All of the products he used were from Bumble and Bumble, and the entire process is relatively easy to achieve.

Step 1: - Spray dry, clean hair with Bumble and Bumble Tonic and then work in a little bit of Bumble and Bumble Styling Creme to the roots and lengths of your hair.
Step 2: Next, on the underside of the head, lightly crimp small sections of hair. When hair is cool, brush out the hair to create volume. Next, gently tease (back-comb) the hair at the roots.
Step 3: Flip head over and spray with Bumble and Bumble Does It All. As final step, flip hair up and then brush it out really well one more time (yes, it will be quite full looking).

Love it or Hate It? White Winged Eyeliner at BCBG

On Wednesday afternoon, the highly anticipated BCBG Spring 2008 show took center stage in the Bryant Park tents. FabSugar seemed to be smitten by the clothing, but I'm not entirely sold on the makeup choice to match. Here are a couple of pictures of the pretty Jessica Stam from before and during the show. How do you feel about this white winged eyeliner look?

Backstage Beauty: Charlotte Ronson

Last night at the Charlotte Ronson Spring 2008 Fashion Show, the beauty look was contemporary and sophisticated yet girlie-just like the designer's clothing.

Makeup was done by the famed and fancy British artist Charlie Green who used only Flirt! Cosmetics. Hair was styled by Sandra Yu, who also designed the hair for Mara Hoffman.

Backstage Beauty: Mara Hoffman

Last night, Fab and I were transported to the Tropics-if only mentally-at the Mara Hoffman show. While Fab chatted with the designer herself, I trotted backstage to chat with the hair and makeup teams. (Yep, that's the actual backstage area!)

While watching the models get done up, I chatted with hair stylist Sandra Yu. Her goal, she said, was to make the hair simultaneously sexy, raunchy, clean and beachy. I think she nailed it-the models' hair had lots of movement and looked natural. To get their locks shiny, Yu used Rusk weightless glossy hairspray and Rusk shine spray.

Andrea Helgadottir from MAC shared her inspiration for the makeup: glowy, very colorful, sexy, and just plain beautiful. She used corals, pinks and greens on eyes, a little gold shimmer on cheeks, all balanced by pink lips. The colors are part of MAC's forthcoming summer 2008 collection, so stay tuned. Love It or Hate It? Tight 'Tails and Nude Faces at Josh Goot

Greetings from New York Fashion Week, everyone! The shows officially started this morning, but a few designers went ahead of the crowd and showed last night. You should have seen Fab at last night's Josh Goot show-she is just crazy for his dresses.

While Fab made notes on the clothes, I was eyeing the slicked-back hair and low-key makeup. Stylist Alan White for Goldwell wrapped tight ponytails with silver, and MAC makeup artist Philippe Chansel gave the models matte, natural faces. (He used Micronized Airbrush Foundation without the airbrush, and MAC Lip Erase to take down the lip color.) But what really got me excited was the soft silver powder on the backs of the models' necks-totally unexpected and absolutely fitting for Goot's modern-girl dresses. What do you think of it?

Coming Soon: Sonia Kashuk Spring/Summer 2008 Collection

Sonia Kashuk is about to launch her new Spring/Summer 2008 collection at Target stores nationwide. The products will be on shelves by March 1, however, you can preview a few of the products here first! The launch also includes an array of new makeup brushes, but today I'm going to tell you about the color collection.

The line contains eight new single eye shadows, seven shadow duos, three eye quads, three cream shadows, six matte lip crayons and six soft-tinted lip balms with SPF 14. But by far, my favorite products of the bunch are the three Dual Ended Sheer Lip Color and Plumping Glossy Tints because they're just so cool.

One side of the jumbo tube houses a sheer, full-sized creamy lipstick and the other side houses a high-shine plumping gloss that's tinted a lighter shade of the lipstick. Both products are moisturizing, the gloss isn't overly tingly, and since the base color is a lipstick, the color is rich.

I've always liked Sonia Kashuk products for their high quality at affordable prices and I've really got to give her kudos for making Target runs so much more fun!

Velvety Matte Lip Crayon ($6.99) is a moisturizing lip crayon with a matte texture. It's available in six shades.
Hydrating Lip Balm with SPF 14 ($7.49) is a tinted, shiny and hydrating lip balm available in six shades.

Eye Shadow Duos ($7.99) now has eight new shades to choose from and the names are also really cute. (I personally like Match Maker, Tongue in Cheek and Double Whammy.) The shadows are also packaged in the new slender, magnetic compacts.

Coming Soon: Spring 2008 Dior Flower Blossom Palette

I've had a peek at the new Spring 2008 Flower Blossom Collection from Dior, and the star product is springlike indeed. It's a gorgeous flower-embossed face powder palette ($45). Filled with five iridescent, pastel shades, this brightening compact is a beautiful way to highlight your cheeks and eyes.

It was inspired by the bright, enamel shades of Victoire de Castellane’s Diorette jewelry collection (pictured below) that was released in 2007. I have yet to see the rest of the makeup collection, but it is set to include ten additional products that are due on counters by mid-January.

Trend Alert: Iridescent Pink Nail Polish

The 80s called, and they want their nail polish back. Only this time, delicate pinks are not quite as sheer as before. Candy-colored nail polish takes on a new twist for Spring 2008 with three new shades infused with shimmery iridescence to reflect light and add some extra drama to your digits.

Deborah Lippmann Dream a Little Dream of Me ($15) is a medium cotton-candy pink polish. The cool part about the color is that as you move your hands in different lights, the iridescence reveals blue, purple, and yellow tones on your nails.
