Rihanna was winging it at the American Music Awards — or at least her eyeliner was. Most of you were loving this red eyeliner look when Rihanna sported it earlier this week, but this time she's gone for a cool, almost airbrush effect. She keeps the rest of her makeup simple, and her hair is funky but not busy.

Over the past few years, Toni Braxton's hair has gotten both longer and a lot lighter. Here, she's tossed her caramel-toned locks into a loose updo, letting her flawless skin shine through. As for her makeup, it's all about creating a dewy finish, with the emphasis on the eyes.

The lovely Leona Lewis has, thankfully, recovered from being attacked earlier this year, and she was at her golden girl best on the red carpet tonight. Instead of the gold-toned or smoky eye makeup that usually prevails at awards shows, Leona opted for a bright green shadow that made her eyes stand out beautifully, and she complemented the green with a whisper pink lip and a hint of bronzer on her cheeks. I think the look was lovely, but it wasn't very seasonal.

Adorable Disney-ite Selena Gomez always looks pretty and age-appropriate when she walks the red carpet. Tonight, she went elegant, wearing her curls in this lovely, loose bun and letting tendrils fall free to frame both sides of her face. I love that her eye makeup was extremely simple and that her lip gloss and blush were both almost sheer.

Carrie Underwood proves that when in doubt, all you have to do is stick a barrette in your locks for instant glamour. Do you like how the pinned-back look creates an asymmetric effect? Peaches-and-cream makeup, along with some smoky lilac shadow, complete her makeup palette.

Alicia Keys never fails to look gorgeous on the red carpet, but she's also not afraid of strong choices, either. Tonight, she went decidedly retro (peep those earrings!) with blue eye shadow and a complex, old-fashioned updo that looked like it could very well have been worn by Lena Horne or one of the Andrews sisters. What do you think?

While she keeps her makeup fairly simple, you know Fergie can't just stop right there. The center of her look this evening revolves around some very "Boom Boom Pow" locks, accentuated by reddish streaks that peek out from underneath those voluminous waves. Fergie, along with her group, the Black Eyed Peas, is up for several awards tonight, but are you going to be awarding the songstress with the coveted "love it" vote?

If you are ever having a tough day, Mary J. Blige's Twitter feed might perk you up. It's usually uplifting without being schmaltzy — much like her American Music Awards look is elegant without being matronly.

For fans of V or the classic Joss Whedon show Firefly, Morena should be a welcome addition to the red carpet roundup. Tonight she kept her look classically chic, with an Audrey-esque pixie cut, lightly lined eyes, and dusty rose lips. I love a pixie cut — check out more here — but what's your take on it?
