The 14th cycle (count 'em - 14!) of America's Next Top Model is fast-approaching on March 10, and we're already getting a sneak peek at the young women who will be vying for the title. Last season's contestants will be hard to top - I can't imagine anyone being quite as charming to watch as Laura - but a few in the bunch are snagging my attention (even though I'm not quite sure why they've dressed them up like Lady Gaga/'80s Barbie). America's Next Top Models Make Modeling Look Paintful

The photoshoot in last night's episode of America's Next Top Model looked like a page out of Dolce & Gabbana's Spring '08 ad campaign, only the paint was on the models' faces and not dresses! The girls had to literally put on their game faces and strike a pose with paint dripping down their eyes, cheeks, and mouths - sounds like fun to me. Some were distracted by the wet paint, while others embraced the ooey gooeyness of it all. My favorites were Lauren (left) and Anya (right), even though the judges told her that her eyes weren't strong enough. Have a look and tell me who your favorites were!

Freaky or Fabulous? Meaty Modeling

Modeling in a room of meat is odd, but wearing meat is freaky. On Wednesday's episode of America's Next Top Model, the remaining contestants were taken to the Meatpacking District in New York, where they had to not only wear raw meat, but they had to make it look as normal as modeling diamonds. Claire (pictured) and Marvita made the challenge look effortless, but I still think it's more freaky than fabulous. You?

Elle and Bryan Sitting in a Tree (or a Car, rather)

There have been rumours about Elle MacPherson and Bryan Adams since late last year, and they were spotted looking very happy together in London on Wednesday night. On the other side of the Atlantic, Elle (in TV form) was appearing on Wednesday night's episode of America's Next Top Model. The wannabe models had to pose in the supermodel's range of lingerie - our girl Buzz watched it and thought Elle came across as a genuinely nice person. We'll have to wait to see that episode on this side of the pond, as we're lagging behind our American friends who are already on Series 10 (Series 9 is currently airing here in the UK on Monday nights on Living TV). Elle's gorgeous as ever and they look super-happy to be in each other's company, hooray!

Which America's Next Top Model Lingerie Shot Was Your Favorite?

Last week's ANTM stepped up its game, but I can't say the same for Wednesday night's episode. The challenges were a bit snooze-worthy, but seeing Elle Macpherson was a treat. The supermodel lent her Intimates lingerie line to the aspiring models (shameless plug much?), who were then posed in them to the backdrop of NYC. Sounds easy right? Not! None of the girls blew me away, but Marvita (left) and Aimee (right) stood out the most. The challenge came rather naturally to them, and they looked the least commercial. Should America's Next Top Model Screen Candidates Making Sure They Have a Genuine Interest in Fashion?

Just when I was beginning to get bored with America's Next Top Model, Tyra and her crew did a little switcharoo. Thank you! First they took the production to New York - smart move - then, they brought on old-school Czech model Paulina Porizkova as a guest judge. Though the caliber of models still isn't great, there are a couple with high-fashion potential. But more on that later. Let's talk about quitter Kim from Worcester, New York. What the bleep? How can you want to be a model when you don't like, much less live and breathe, fashion?

On several occasions, she expressed not believing in paying an obscene amount on clothes. Tyra told her that "one don't need to spend a lot of money to love fashion," duh! Still, it wasn't enough to convince Kim to stay. Because of what happened last night, do you think ANTM should screen candidates to make sure they have a genuine interest in fashion?

Meet the Ladies of America's Next Top Model Cycle 10

America's Next Top Model will return next month with a whole new set of catwalk hopefuls and the usual boatload of Tyra antics. Today, the CW is giving us our first glimpse of the 14 aspiring models who will strut onto our TV screens come Feb. 20. Is it bad that at this point, when I see these photos, I immediately start imagining what the girls will look like after makeover week?

This season, Paulina Porizkova is replacing Twiggy on the judging panel, and I can't wait to see what she adds to the show. America's Next Top Model Rundown: Episode 5, "The Girl Who Is Afraid Of Heights"

After last week's thrilling makeover episode, this week's America's Next Top Model was actually a bit of a bore. Is it just me, or are they devoting less and less time to the girls interpersonal drama? Maybe these aspiring models just aren't as boozy as some of the older seasons meaning fewer late night antics. So without further ado, here's what went down last night:

Benny Ninja was in full effect last night taking the girls for a trampoline lesson on how to pose while moving before their challenge. The girls were then brought to an ice skating rink and told to convey emotions while being lifted over the ice by an Olympic figure skater. Good times. Overseeing the event was Cycle 7 winner, Dani, who has certainly followed through on those speech lessons. All the girls seemed totally awkward with the challenge, most of all Heather, who kind of froze up whenever the guy tried to lift her. Lisa won, making all the other girls, most especially Ambreal, upset. There were tears, but that is to be expected.

For the actual photoshoot, the girls were brought to the roof of a hotel in downtown LA, where they would be posing (nowhere near the edge, mind you) as "fashion gargoyles." I kid you not. Ambreal was having a bit of a fit, being scared of heights and all, but...wait for it...she overcame her fear. Also, did I mention they didn't seem to be anywhere near the edge? Too bad for her it didn't' do much for her photos. Ebony continued to have no personality, but look great on film while Heather stuck with her tried and true profile shot. Out of nowhere, I think Chantal might have been my favorite and Jenna wasn't so bad herself. Way to go, blondes!

Thankfully Saleisha learned how to hold her head high with that haircut (thereby allowing us to see her face, like, at all). Sarah didn't look great in her shot, nor does she seem to carry herself particularly well, but they're keeping her around for at least another week. I will say, that I love me some Lisa-tude.

Ambreal was in the bottom two, but Janet got the boot. Probably a good call because I literally didn't even know she was on the show until this week.

Next week: my guess is that Sarah or Ebony will be kicked off. Then again, I've never once predicted correctly.

"America's Next Top Model" Rundown: Episode 4, "The Girl Who Goes Bald"

Makeover day is when "America's Next Top Model" really gets rolling and last night was hopefully the turning point for this kind of blah season so far. Nothing much happened between the girls this episode, which is possibly for the best since it meant zero of Bianca picking fights with the other girls. That being said, she was still the center of what little drama there was. Here's my take on what went down:

The makeovers were, across the board, good this time (meaning, no DISASTERS like Brittany last season). I especially loved Chantal and...Bianca's. I know that Ken Paves gave her an extra special wig after they had to shave off her hair, but she looked stunning with that buzzed head! I've never been a fan of her on the show, but I definitely see her potential now that the pink hair is gone. I actually kinda hate Saleisha's new look, but I suppose that's why I'm not Tyra.

For the first challenge the producers had to work in their partnership with CoverGirl. I mean, uh, the girls had to show off their make-up skills. It was pretty pointless, but Sarah won. Yay, Sarah. Sarah is good. As for the real photoshoot, the newly madeover models had to each act like different species of plants. Believe it or not, the resulting pictures are pretty awesome.

The judges were, as usual, enamored with Heather's pictures. They also loved Ebony's photo, but couldn't get past her attitude on panel. And speaking of panel-tude - it was Yaley Victoria's downfall. I understand that she wasn't trying to be an aloof and slightly obnoxious person, but it definitely came off that way. She was always a bit abrasive, which earned her the boot. Saleisha was in the bottom two, which is certainly not going to help her confidence about that haircut.

I'm sure the promos for next week will make it kind of obvious who goes home (they always do...), but right now my guess would be either Chantal or Ebony. Who do you think? Do you think the right girl went home? Who are you liking? Favorite makeover? Why is there so little Tyra this season? Clearly, these are pressing questions.

It's Top Model Makeover Time!

Last night's episode of America's Next Top Model was my favorite part of the cycle: Makeover time! Seriously, is there anything more entertaining than seeing the contestants get their hair chopped, colored, and shaved? Well, maybe the drama that ensues is more entertaining.

Some highlights: Heather looks more or less the same, which-mark my words-is a sign that she'll stay "in the running towards becoming America's Next Top Model" for quite some time. Sarah (the "plus-sized" girl who's all of a size 8, maybe 10) got a flirty blonde cropped 'do. Bitchfaced Bianca was supposed to go blonde, but because of her hair damage, it was out with the Wahl and off with her hair. (She's wearing wigs from here on out.)

Some of the makeovers were big improvements, I thought, but others made me wonder what was going on. (Janet's dyed black hair is a little too Romulan, isn't it?) Take a look at all of the girls and let me know whose transformation you like most!

"America's Next Top Model" Rundown: "The Girl Who Went Rock Climbing"

"ANTM" is getting pretty lazy with their episode titles, eh? This week, wait for it, the photoshoot was on a rock climbing wall! Yeah, they're also running out of ideas for photoshoots...and other competitions. Speaking of which, this episode was all about walking in difficult situations (isn't it always?) and started out with Miss Jay having the girls walk in straight jackets. Perhaps I'm overly sensitive, but the whole thing made me a bit uncomfortable.

As for the competition, the models had to walk in a faux-runway show for Colleen Quen's fancy and difficult-to-maneuver-in gowns, the prize being a chance to walk in Quen's Paris Fashion Week show. Roy Cambell acted as the most awkward runway announcer ev-er for the show. Kinda hilarious. Saleisha won, despite Bianca's many attempts to cut her down including calling her "borderline plus sized." Ugh. Bianca may bring the entertainment factor, but I'm quickly getting tired of her shenanigans.

For the photoshoot, as I mentioned before, the girls were to simulate rock climbing (do not worry, no actual climbing took place) in their couture gowns, stilettos...and harnesses. How cutting edge! How high fashion! How silly.

And about the pictures, Saleisha's shot was good, and daring, though I think she may be getting a bit too into herself. I also liked Victoria's shot, but I always find myself rooting for the smart girls. Tyra was a fan of Bianca's but the other judges didn't like it. For the first time ever, Ty Ty seemed like she was maybe going to make an elimination based on her co-panelists' feelings, but in the end Kimberley got the boot despite, as Tyra kept harping on, her perfect ears. Oh, Tyra.

"America's Next Top Model" Rundown: "The Models Go Green"

On this week's "America's Next Top Model" we learned that this cycle, the show is going green...ish. Well, at least they'll be tooling around LA in a car running on biodiesel, the house is full of plants/recycled materials and the girls will be forced to take short, timed showers. To conserve water! Oh...and they're not allowed to smoke cigarettes...? Talk about one version of hell: living in a house of aspiring models who are forced to quit smoking. Well, that's one way to up the ratings with testy catfights!

This week the girls had to pretend to be super excited about a shopping spree at Old Navy (and put together a totally personalized outfit from the store's fabulous staples!) in addition to getting down to business with their photoshoot. The ridiculously preachy and heavy-handed theme of the shoot was the effects of smoking cigarettes. Seriously. The girls had to pose two ways: glamorous smoking and, in the mirror, ghastly from the side effects. Did you get the message? Smoking is BAD FOR YOU.

First of all, the Bianca vs. Lisa fight was classic "ANTM" material. It barely made sense and will hopefully carry over for many episodes. Also, did it seem a little, um, planned that Heather, the model with the disorder that affects her social interactions, was chosen to be in the only picture with multiple girls in it?

Saleisha won the Old Navy outfit picking contest, winning her a shopping spree and a modeling job in an Old Navy ad. The ad seems like a huge, nice surprise by "ANTM" standards - surprised they didn't stress it like a million times beforehand.

As for the photos, I kind of hated all of them, but if I had to choose a favorite it would probably be Ambreal. The bottom two were Ebony and Mila, and Mila got the boot. I kinda liked Miss Mila, but it's too early in the game to get attached to any of them.

"America's Next Top Model" Recap: "The Girls Go Cruisin'"

Pretty much all the suspense of last night's season premiere of "America's Next Top Model" was gone with one look at this picture from the CW that revealed which of the first 33 contestants would make the final 13. But no matter - there was enough pure crazy in the first episode to make it worth watching. I mean, one girl gave Tyra a simulated bikini wax right there on the judges' table, leading Tyra to exclaim that "any girl who gives me a simulated kitty-cat wax is fine with me." I can only imagine what precedent this will set for future cycles.

Anyway. The episode started with the 33 hopefuls boarding a cruise ship in Puerto Rico, where Tyra surprised the girls by making her first appearance in a feather-adorned getup for a little cabaret number, surrounded by gay sailors. (My boyfriend's comment: "The kangaroo costume was better.") Then came a boatload (...get it?) of whining, cattiness, backbiting and posturing between the girls as they prepared for their auditions in front of Tyra and the Jays. The auditions featured a whole lot of weird moments, including one girl pulling a straw paper out of her nose and another being made to walk like a high-fashion butterfly and robot. (That went well.) There also was the usual complement of sob stories from girls who had drug-addicted mothers, blindness in one eye, and Asperger's Syndrome.

In the end, after a photo shoot on the beach, the girls were cut to the 13 finalists, including Heather (the girl with Asperger's), Victoria (a Yale student who thinks some of the other girls are dumb), Jenah (who seems like a good candidate for house brat), and Sarah (who's too big for regular modeling and too small for plus - so, in other words, a normal girl). At this point, I'm rooting for Sarah, but I have a feeling Lisa will end up winning it all. Who's your early pick?

Top Model Advice: Sorting Fact From Fiction

Hey y'all!* The new crop of would-be models for America's Next Top Model have been announced. Thirteen young ladies are still on their way to becoming... America's. Next. Top. Model. (Honestly, I live for this show.) Tyra and her cohorts constantly give modeling tips to the contestants, and some are pretty spot-on. Others, though, are clearly designed to make better television. I've worked on a few photo shoots, so I thought I'd share my thoughts on whether the show's hair and makeup tips are based in myth or truth. Most of the good ones can be incorporated into your own beauty routine, so read on, my pretties!

Models need to know how to do their own makeup and hair.
False. A basic knowledge of hair and makeup helps, of course, but most commercial and editorial photo shoots will have a stylist or makeup artist who knows how to work with the lighting. There are exceptions, but most models don't need to have a second career as a makeup artist!

A personality is as important-if not moreso-as good looks.
True. A model with a lousy attitude won't make it. I once booked a model only by looking at her beautiful comp card. But when she showed up to the shoot, her apathetic attitude made the photos look dull. For us non-models, the same thing applies. It sounds corny, but confidence attracts more people than simply being pretty.

Models are chosen because of their clear complexions.
True and false. Yes, the ideal model will have blemish-free skin-but she has to work at it. Models suffer from zits and blackheads like the rest of us; there's no secret model DNA that keeps their skin clear. What they do do is follow their dermatologist's instructions to a T, while those of us who don't have to rely on our looks for a paycheck might not be as religious about cleansing, treating and moisturizing our skin.

A drastic hair makeover is normal for new models.
False. Yes, new models might get highlights and a new cut. But it's not mandatory, and the makeovers you see on Top Model are more about manufacturing drama than creating a model. Remember Brittany's terrible red weave from cycle 8? Sure, she looked markedly different, but let's face it, the hair was fug. Keep this in mind anytime you're thinking of trying out a new cut or color. You may be able to update your look without going the whole nine yards. Use a makeover simulator to see how such changes might look.

A top model knows how to play up her strengths and downplay her flaws.
True. Everyone, model or not, has good angles and not-so-hot angles. Models practice in a mirror to figure out how to trick the camera through presenting their faces and bodies in the best way possible. You can do this at home, too. For instance, I've found that opening my eyes a little wider than usual looks goofy in person, but great on camera. Even if you're not going to be on the pages of a magazine, spend a minute or two testing different angles. When you're photographed at a party or even a driver's license, you'll be glad you did!

*(Yes, that's my Tyra Banks impression. It's also my Britney impression, but trust me, it's all in the delivery.)

Model of the Week: Yoanna House

We are so excited to bring back Model of the Week! This time, we take a closer look at American model Yoanna House. Yoanna was born on April 9, 1980 in Jacksonville, Florida. She can credit her amazing looks from her Mexican mother and her Canadian father. (She is also very close to her grandmother-who's actually the one who got her interested in fashion and modeling!)

After losing 50 lbs, Yoanna decided to try out for America's Next Top Model, and her big break in the industry was winning season two! Her prizes included a cover of the Sephora catalog, a contract with IMG and a photo spread for Jane magazine. Since then, she has modeled around the world and is the host of "The Look for Less" on the Style Network.

What is your secret to beautiful skin and hair?
For beautiful skin, I've come to the conclusion that less is more! I've quit wasting time and spending bundles of cash on super fancy and complicated regimens. I keep my beauty regimen simple with a light cleansing gel, Lancôme Microdermabrasion Scrubs once a week, alcohol-free toner and vitamin C organic moisturizer. I book facials sporadically to get extractions and I do mini peels at home. For beautiful hair, I maintain shine by using deep conditioners. Also, I get blowouts twice a week.

What is the one product that you can't live without?
The product I absolutely love is mascara!

What is your guilty pleasure?
Enjoying a vegan oatmeal cookie from my favorite vegan bakery. I love French and Spanish Vogue and shopping for vintage clothes with my sister Alex. I especially love vintage YSL and Chanel pieces.

What are your favorite drugstore products?
L'Oreal Sublime Bronzer Self-Tanning Lotion, Pantene Pro-V Serum, Pantene Detangler Light Spray Conditioner, Mason Pearson Brushes and Mentadent whitening toothpaste, individual false eyelashes for nights out on the town, black mascara, Neutrogena Micro Scrubs and clear lip gloss with a little bit of sparkle.

Happiness is...
Driving in my car-I just got a shiny silver Mercedes station wagon-blaring old classics like Guns 'N Roses' "November Rain" or John Lennon's "Instant Karma," singing at the top of my lungs with my best friend and manager and celebrating mass in our favorite cathedral downtown. Afterwards, going out for brunch and shopping for antiques and vintage clothing.

"America's Next Top Model": Annnd We Have a Winner!

So this week's "ANTM" was the biggie, the one for all the marbles (er, money and lipstick ads) ... and it's the week my TiVo chose to let me down. So forgive me if this recap doesn't chronicle every step of the craziness the way it normally would, and be sure to leave a comment telling me what you thought were the best/worst/most ridiculous parts.

For the first challenge, the three remaining models were sent to shoot a "my life" spot for Cover Girl, speaking spontaneously and without any lines written down ahead of time. Sounds like trouble for Natasha, huh? She tried to sneak in a script she'd written, but that was a no-no, and she ended up awkwardly ad-libbing. Renee, meanwhile, initially started talking about how six months ago she had a baby and thought her life was over. The coaches gently suggested that the ideal "easy, breezy" Cover Girl probably wouldn't be so negative. Jaslene landed the glamour-girl gig by shooting her commercial in a limo, which brought out "cha-cha" to the max. The judges complained that Natasha's ad was too awkward and Jaslene didn't look commercial enough, which you'd think would make Renee a sure bet for the final two. But no! Instead, they said she looked too old - and too squinty, thanks to the sun being in her eyes during the commercial shoot - and she was booted.

So this runway show. First of all, the runway was this long, curvy thing made of tiny wooden slats, and all I could think of was poor Jenna Fischer breaking her back. Secondly, the girls were told that the theme of the show was evolution, which made me think they were going to have to first crawl, then ape-walk, then finally strut on the runway. Luckily, they actually just had to dance around looking baffled for the prehistoric parts. Natasha started out great - not surprisingly, she can pull off the "confused person who's never seen the world before" look quite well - but faded at the end, while Jaslene pulled out some serious model strutting action. Oh, and Natasha's skirt fell off, but she just kept workin' it like a trooper.

Back at the judging, Natasha and Jaslene said how happy they were that "girls with accents" had made it this far in the competition. We got a recap of their photos from the season - wow, they both made really good dudes - and a fairly brief deliberation before Tyra announced that Jaslene "cha cha" Gonzales would be America's Next Top Model. Cheers! Hugs! Crying! I was a little surprised Jaslene won, but I have to admit she looked the most "model-y" at the runway show. What do you think? Was Renee robbed?
