I expect we'll be seeing lots of red-carpet looks from Amy Adams, as her latest flick, Julie and Julia will be released in theaters next Friday. At last night's NYC premiere, Amy amped up the volume with some bouncy waves and a warm, glowing face. "We went for a steel and copper smokey lid, gorgeous full lashes, a peachy cheek, and a golden amber lip," said CoverGirl celebrity makeup artist Molly R. Stern, who created the look.

"Last night Amy wore a gorgeous full-length Carolina Herrera gown with a charcoal and white pattern speckled with gold beading. So I borrowed from that exquisite color palette," Stern said. Actress Amy Adams has had quite the year. Besides her Oscar and Golden Globe nominations, the redheaded star has a new movie coming out. At the premiere of Sunshine Cleaning, Amy's signature strawberry blond locks were styled in old-school waves, with one side curled back for a dramatic effect. It looks like Amy likes to pay tribute to styles of yesteryear, as she recently wore the "snood" to the Oscars. When it comes to Amy's hairstyles, which one do you prefer - the sleek and classy or the more tousled and modern?

How-To: Amy Adams's Hair at the 2009 Oscars

Do you know "the snood"? Well, you do now. That's exactly what Amy Adams asked Matrix celebrity hairstylist, Mark Townsend, to create for her. Using elements from this classic 1930s hairstyle, Townsend also looked to the styles worn by Tilda Swinton in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Amy's structured, but soft, red Carolina Herrera gown for inspiration. First, Amy's hair was sprayed with Matrix Biolage Bodifying Spray Gel and blow-dried with a large Spornette Mixed Bristle Round Brush ($9).
Once the hair was dry, Biolage Molding Souffle ($13) was raked through the hair to create a soft, piecey texture.
Next, Townsend gathered Amy's hair at the nape of her neck. He then looped it into a sideways figure eight stretching the length of her hairline, letting the ends of the hair fall over the chignon. He secured her hair with several bobby pins, to ensure that the style would stay put.
To finish, he sprayed Matrix Vavoom Shape Maker Shaping Spray ($15) for shine and hold.

How-To: Amy Adams's Makeup at the 2009 Oscars

It was a big night for Amy Adams. Although she didn't win the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in Doubt, I'm sure she was thrilled to be part of the whole shebang. Molly Stern, the makeup artist behind Amy's glowing look, was inspired by Toulouse-Latrec's dancing girls and the style of Klimt painting. How very artistic. Get me to a museum - stat. Prep: To give the face a glow, Stern used Citrus Purifying Mist ($21). Next, she applied La Mer The Moisturizing Lotion ($190), for a light facial massage. How relaxing.
Complexion: Stern applied Yves Saint Laurent Perfect Touch Foundation in #2. Then, she used Chantecaille
AquaBlush Oil-Free Gel in Frivolous ($42) as a peach base for Amy's cheeks with a peach eye shadow (yep, eye shadow) on top - Chantecaille Lasting Eye Shadow in Sesame ($28).
Eyes: Stern applied NARS Cream Eye Shadow in Maracaibo ($21) as a base. Next, she blended Shu Uemura Pressed Eye Shadow Pearl ($20 each) in Gray 960 with Purple 700 on the lid, up to the crease. NARS Single Eye Shadow in Ondine ($22) was applied on the inside corner of her lids. The top and underneath of her eyes were lined with Trish McEvoy Eye Definer Powdered Eyeliner in Arabian Nights ($16).
Lips: Stern prepped Amy's lips with La Mer The Lip Balm ($45). Then she applied CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain Lip Color in Bit of Blossom ($7.50), along with a sheer layer of Shu Uemura "Rouge Unlimited" Lipstick in Wine 265 ($23). A little CoverGirl Wetslicks Amazemint Lipgloss in Plum Crazy ($6) in the center of her lip added an extra pout.

Oscars Trend Alert: The Many Shades of Red

What I like most about a red lip is that it doesn't have to be too fussy, as the ladies of the 2009 red carpet prove. Whether it was subtle and matte like Anne Hathaway or bold and raspberry-toned à la Alicia Keys, it just goes to show you that red-toned lipstick is always en vogue. 2009 Oscars: Amy Adams

As I'm writing these words, I'm watching Amy Adams on E! How cute is she? The nominated star of Doubt walked the red carpet in a dress of the same color, with an oversize statement necklace. With a standout ensemble like that, you can downplay the hair and makeup, which is exactly what Ms. Adams did. She wore her hair back and down in a low bun, a look that is both understated and classic. The same can be said for her makeup, especially her deeply lined eyes and simple melon-toned lips. Are you digging Amy's look as much as I'm loving her personality?

2009 Screen Actors Guild Awards: Amy Adams

Amy Adams, nominated for a SAG Award for her performance in Doubt, made her big screen debut in the 1999 comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous - and that's exactly what she looks like on the red carpet tonight. She took a page out of Evan Rachel Wood's book by pairing a strong red lip with similarly colored hair. But while Evan wore her locks down, Amy went slightly more elegant with her updo. And just try to take your eyes off those gigantic earrings. All in all, Amy leaves us with no doubt that she's red carpet ready. Do you like?
