At last night's VH1 Hip-Hop Honors, Ashanti was bewitching with a bit of cool-girl style: sexy curls, a feathered earring, and a devilish smile to top things off. Today, she posed at the Empire State Building with loose waves and glossy lips. Which of these styles do you prefer?

Trend Alert: Super Slick Ponytails

With wispy tendrils falling all over the place nowadays, I figured it was high time to give the bangless babes some love, too. I'd say polar opposite of the bohemian up-do would be the tightly together ponytail. Just this week alone, I spotted these three ladies wearing similarly sleek looks that focus on their face, makeup, and bone structure.
To bring this trend home, grab a high hold gel, paste, or pomade and comb your hair back so it's fairly smooth. Apply the product and then again comb it, this time fixing it up in your ponytail. Wrap and tuck part of your hair to hide the elastic, then style it wavy like Scarlett Johansson and Ashanti or stick-straight like Kim Kardashian. Lastly, I'd choose fun dangling earrings to lessen the severity of the 'do, but whether you leave your ponytail straight or curled is up to you.

How To: Ashanti's Rockin' Rockefeller Center Makeup Look

I told you that coral lips were the sexy look of the season on dark or tanned skin, and just check out at how incredible Ashanti looked at the launch of Nassau County's Tourism Campaign in Rockefeller Center.

Not only does this bright coral shade make her eyes twinkle but her skin is as smooth as a baby's bottom. Notice how her cheeks have a slight luster to them without looking oily or shiny - I love that!

FACE: To get a picture perfect, matte base like Ashanti's you'll need to use a heavy- coverage, matifying foundation. Apply something like Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation in Caramel with a sponge and blend well (don't forget your jaw-line and around your nose). Then, add your concealer and finish with a loose powder that matches your base.
CHEEKS: Next, mix two of Scott Barnes Cream Blush in Sultry and Sway together to create the perfect pop of color and contour along your cheekbones. Dab a little on the apples of your cheeks and blend to a smooth finish.
EYES: Begin by sweeping a bone-colored shadow all over the kid. Then, follow with a barely there shiny taupe in the crease. Next, use a black liquid liner and line the inner rims of your eyes, just below the rims and your upper lash line with a slight wing-tip extension. Then, take a white eyeliner or eye shadow like Urban Decay in Yeyo and draw a line right above the black line on your upper lids. The line should be sharp and clean. Blend a little pencil in the 'inner v' of your eye, apply a set of false lashes, two coats of mascara and let everything dry.
LIPS: Apply a creamy coral lipstick such as Cargo PlantLove Botanical Lipstick in Evangeline with a lip brush (for even coverage) all over and apply a clear gloss on top.

Aw, Ashanti! I've long lamented the lack of risk-taking on the red carpet, and Ashanti is trying something new. Red lips aren't groundbreaking, but pairing them with blue eye shadow? That's something we don't see much of. And her cool coif has a retro edge without feeling dated. I love this glam look on her. Do you?

Last night at the American Music Awards, Ashanti looked like a golden goddess. Instead of playing it safe and staying subtle with her makeup, she opted to pair metallic gold eyeliner with gorgeous soft pink lips and shimmery pink eyeshadow. This contrast worked to enhance her smooth and glowing skin. Kudos to Ashanti for taking a risk on the red carpet!

FACE: Since you want your eyes to stand out the most, your face should look smooth, hydrated, and even. Try a slightly luminous foundation like Stila Illuminating Liquid Foundation in 60 Watt . Blend well, then use a setting powder if you feel the shimmer is too strong.
CHEEKS: Use a dusty-mauve or rose blush on the apples of your cheeks and blend outwards towards your hairline. A blush with a little bit of sparkle like this Lorac Blush in Soul mixed with a highlighter is a perfect way to achieve this sexy look.
EYES: Begin by applying a shimmer beige shadow like one side of the Nars Duo Eyeshadow in Sugarland all over your lid. Then use the other shade (the sparkling pink) in the crease and blend. Line your upper lids with a black-liquid liner and extend the line so that you create dramatic wings. Next, apply a gold-liquid eyeliner like this Chantecaille Luminous Eye Liner in A Crescendo on the bottom and top with two coats of black mascara.
