Which Hairstyle Do You Prefer on Ashlee Simpson?

Just a few weeks ago, Ashlee Simpson was sporting a much subtler, natural hair color, but now, she's taken it up several notches, going for an intense copper-toned red. The new version of Melrose Place is set to premiere on Tuesday, and as one of the show's characters, she has been all over Manhattan making appearances on various talk shows to promote it. Yesterday, she was seen wearing three very different hairstyles while making her rounds. Of course, like Ashlee, each style had its own distinctive flair. Which one is your favorite?

Have you noticed a hot trend emerging on the red carpet? These days, it's all about loose, casually tossed-back updos with pieces left out in the front. Renée Zellweger has been sporting different versions of the look over the past few days, from her tousled bangs she wore at the September Issue premiere to the soft and feminine look she wore earlier this week. At last night's InStyle Summer Soiree in LA, Ashlee Simpson presented her take, complete with asymmetric, twisty angles. Like the look? Get some tips for achieving the casual style when you read more.

Using a shine-enhancing, medium-hold gel like Kiehl's Clean-Hold Styling Gel ($15), blow dry the hair with a round brush for volume and soft curl.
Create a side part in the front, leaving all of the hair from the back of the ear to the front of the hairline out. Sweep the hair behind the lighter side of the part towards the opposite, heavier side. Secure the hair by creating a loose ponytail with an elastic band, using bobby pins to anchor where needed.
Tuck and pin some of the loose ends of the ponytail under the band. Then, twist and pin some of the other loose ends for a tousled effect.
Next, take a few chunky pieces from the front sections of the hair and twist them back into the ponytail. Secure with bobby pins. Finish off by loosely curling the remaining pieces in the front for a bohemian look.

Love It or Hate It: Ashlee Simpson's Red Redo

Last night, the Simpson sister's were out in LA, and new mom Ashlee was sporting red locks once more.

Seeing that she went from red to blonde just before Christmas, and now back to red once more, I'm just guessing that the crimson shade is her color of preference - and that she has an amazing stylist capable of creating such transformations without damaging her frequently processed locks.

What say you on Simpson's endless sea of change? Are you red with envy or do you prefer to see her in another hue?

Trend Alert: New Year, Long Waves

OK, I know it's nothing all that earth-shattering since long waves have been in fashion long before the Farrah Fawcett days. But this New Year's Eve, it was all about the soft cascading curl. Whether it was a more-refined look like Ashlee Simpson and Eva Longoria Parker or tousled and undone à la Molly Sims and Chloë Sevigny, the look was still sexy - and a little more inspired than pin-straight locks. Want some loose waves? Keep a large-barreled (at least one inch or larger) curling iron open and wrap your hair around the barrel for a few seconds and release. Is this the iconic hairstyle of the 2000s? We have one more year to find out, but I'm betting yes.

Love It or Hate It? Ashlee Simpson's MTV VMA Look

Expectant mom Ashlee Simpson wore basic black at this year's VMAs, and kept her makeup simple with a teal eyeliner and smooth hair. Since she's likely not coloring her hair at the moment, Ashlee had fun with length. A lot of length. She's definitely a candidate for our hair extensions quiz series. Trend Alert: The Horizontal Hippie Headband Hairstyle

We first saw this horizontal hippie headband hairstyle (wow, try to repeat that phrase five times in a row) on Mischa Barton back in March, and lately it seems to be more popular than ever among young Hollywood.

Mischa repeated this look a few months later at a benefit, and this week alone we've spotted fellow trendsetters Ashlee Simpson and Nicole Richie adorning their long and wavy center parts with thin, stretchy headbands too. Beauty Tips and Tricks For Redheads

Since it's St. Patrick's Day, I've been thinking about classic Irish beauty. Being that so many Irish women are fair-skinned redheads, I thought I'd suggest a few friendly tips and tricks on how to enhance your specific type of beauty. And, of course you don't have to be Irish for this advice to pertain to you, silly - these red-headed celebs aren't!

Protect Your Hair Color: Whether or not you enhance your hair color, you'll want to give it shelter in the sun so that it doesn't turn orange or brassy. Try misting your hair with an SPF shine spray and use color-enhancing hair products to replenish and maintain your color in between salon visits.

Makeup Colors: When looking for a foundation and/or a powder, it's best to steer away from anything too pink or yellow. In particular, products targeted for those with olive skin will be too harsh. Generally, it's best to choose a neutral, light-beige shade. Additionally, when possible, avoid orangey-red, orange, and overly strong coral shades of lipstick. However, gold makeup is gorgeous on redheads, as are champagne, taupe, and brown eye shadows - so go crazy!
Eyebrows: Frame your fair skin by filling in your eyebrows. Depending on how dark or light your hair is, you'll want to match your brows one shade darker. Going too dark is going to look unnatural, so choose a soft, auburn, or taupe powder.
Skin Care SPF is a must. Since your skin is fair, it will burn easily and can cause wrinkles, redness, peeling, premature aging, and cancer. Be sure to wear a moisturizer with SPF 30, and when possible consider buying cosmetics with SPF in the formula for extra protection from harmful UVA and UVB rays.
