Fall 2010 New York Fashion Week: Mackage

Of all the subtly sexy hairstyles, the hair-over-the-eyes look might be the most underappreciated. Such was the case at Mackage, where stylist Tippi Shorter created a ponytail that draped in front of the face. Make the swoop less dramatic for real life, and you've got a beautiful, easy style. (In your face!)

To create the look, Shorter dried hair straight then worked Avon Advance Techniques Volumizing Mousse throughout. Using a comb, she created a diagonal part that extended from the point above one eye to the crown of the head. She then blow-dried the front section of the hair forward, using a round barrel brush to create the sweep.

To form the perfect ponytail, she backcombed about two inches of hair just below the crown. Next, she draped it over the back of the head, moving the teased portions around evenly before securing it into a low, loose ponytail. After blending Advance Techniques Moisture Sleek Smoothing Serum and Shaping Gel together, she worked it through the draped section of hair; she followed by pulling it into the ponytail. At home, you can secure with bobby pins if necessary and finish with a shine spray.

Avon Donates a Million Dollars to Haitian Relief Effort

Next time the Avon lady comes calling, I'll shake her hand, because the company just committed a million dollars to the effort to help the millions of people still in a dire situation in Haiti. The money, which is to be split between Doctors Without Borders and the American Red Cross, may not be a lot relative to the need, but I think that it's important to publicize companies that do good.

Millions of traumatized survivors in Haiti are now suffering or dying from easily preventable causes that should never even be an issue, like thirst and hunger or infections. It's inexcusable that this is the case when there's a country with a surfeit of bottled water and antibiotics less than 600 miles away. If you haven't donated already, I urge you to consider doing so - Haitians are our neighbors, and how we treat them says a lot about who we are.

Zoe Saldana Inks a Magical Avon Deal

When Patrick Dempsey launched his first scent, Unscripted, late last year, I have to admit I was skeptical of another celebrity fragrance hitting the market. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the subtle, clean scent, and even Mr. Bella - whose idea of a fun night out involves climbing mountains and camping in the woods sans showers - is a fan.
