Beautiful Bangs for Your Face Shape, Part IV: Heart

Last but not least, it's the final installment in my beautiful bangs for your face shape series. Heart-shaped faces are suited to support lots of different bang styles since the forehead is often very high.

Again, side-swept or off-center long bangs are great for drawing attention to your eyes and cheekbones and away from your sharp chin. Also, short wispy bangs and fringe will work well on the different types of hair thickness.

Steer clear of blunt bangs if your face is very wide by the eyes and then very narrow down below. This will only make your face look longer.

A few heartthrobs with heart-shaped faces include Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Naomi Campbell, Victoria Beckham, Brittany Murphy and Jennifer Love Hewitt. I think that those of you with a heart-shaped faces are the luckiest of the bunch, since you have such rare bone structure.

Beautiful Bangs for Your Face Shape, Part III: Oval

Welcome to the third installment of Beautiful Bangs for Your Face Shape. Celebrities such as Sarah Michelle Gellar, Beyonce, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Garner, Hillary Swank and Sarah Jessica Parker all have oval/long shaped faces. The best types of bang styles for them-or for you-are longer bangs that fall a little bit below the eyebrows.

Yet perhaps one special celeb whose bangs have evolved dramatically over the years is Halle Berry. Curious about what I mean? Check out some of her past hairstyles here.

If you have an oval face shape, you are lucky, since you can play around with many different bang options. For example, if your hair is thick, try a blunt-cut short bang. If your hair is thin, then a billowy fringe or long wisps will look great too!

The goal is to add some width and fullness at the sides so that your face looks more symmetrical. Avoid creating too much volume at the top, or you will only make your face look too drawn-out and oblong. (My mom calls this the "egghead.")

Beautiful Bangs for Your Face Shape, Part II: Square

Welcome back to the second installment of Beautiful Bangs for Your Face Shape. Yesterday we talked about bangs for round faces and today we are looking at the best bang styles for those of you with square faces.

This rare face shape belongs to some seriously sexy A-list stunners such as Katie Holmes, Kate Walsh, Jessica Simpson, Sandra Bullock, Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore, Demi Moore, Audrey Hepburn and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

Things to keep in mind if you have a square face is that layered bangs that fall to or below your eyebrows are very flattering, especially if they are swept off to the side. Fringey and wispy bangs look great, too, since they will soften the edges of your face shape.

Cuts to avoid are blunt bangs or airy bangs that come to your jawline (a common look for a chin-length bob), as these types of bangs will only cause your face to look sharp-and not in the good way.

Beautiful Bangs For Your Face Shape, Part I: Round

Welcome to my series on bangs for your face shape. In the past, I've covered blush colors for your skin tone, moisturizers for your skin type and eye shadows to enhance your eye color. Now with celebrities like Kate Moss and Carmen Electra making bangs look sexier than ever, I thought some information about which bang styles compliment your face shape might be helpful.

The first part of the series is about round faces. Celebs such as Cameron, Carmen, Christina, Kirsten and Kate are just a few famous femmes with round faces. (That's a lot of K sounds-I wonder if the shape of your face is correlated to the sound of your name!)

If you have a round face, you'll first want to start off with a haircut that flatters your face shape and then move onto the "fringe benefits" later.

What you're aiming for is long, side-swept bangs or wispy fringes. Both help take attention away from the sides of your face, creating an arch which will help elongate your face. Stay away from super-choppy bangs or short layers that add volume to the sides.

Ciara's Stylist Tells You How to Get Her Chic New Hairstyle

I've always been in awe of her long, super-shiny hair, but I'm really coveting this new cut, which is actually - scoop! - a perfectly shaped hair piece (no worries, you can do this with your own hair, too).

How-To: Work With Your Widow's Peak

A widow's peak is a dominantly inherited v-shape that dips down along the hairline. Perhaps one of my best friend's most enduring features is her widow's peak, which lends even more character to her friendly disposition. Do you know anyone with this distinctively cool feature?

Female celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Alyson Hannigan, Fran Drescher, and Milla Jovovich all have widow's peaks, along with Keanu Reeves, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Colin Farrell on the men's front. Perhaps you have this genetic trait, too. If so, here are some tips and techniques for making it work. Just read more.

Let it be: Your widow's peak makes you uniquely you, so why hide it? When choosing a hairstyle, focus on your overall face shape instead, whether it's heart, square, oval, or round.
The true heart: A true heart-shaped face will have a wider forehead, pointier chin, and a widow's peak. In this particular case, choose styles that give volume around the jawline, avoiding cuts that provide fullness around the temples. Also, steer clear of blunt bangs, which can look too severe.
Curly girly: Notice how Marilyn's widow's peak blends in with her curl? Add a few swooping rounded curls in the mix to provide a soft effect.
Hair removal: If you absolutely must create a straighter hairline, avoid shaving, which can leave an obvious stubbly line. Instead, consider tweezing, but don't go overboard.
Do the splits: Your widow's peak might act like a cowlick, causing unwanted splitting along your hairline. To coerce it to behave, start with damp hair and focus the air flow from your blow-dryer down toward the peak, tautly pulling hair over and around it to blend.
Banged up: Side parts and soft, swooping bangs are perfect ways to work with your widow's peak. Also, fun, spiky undercut bangs blend nicely with a descending v hairline, providing a stylish face-framing effect.

How To Grow Out Bangs

There's no doubt about it, bangs can be sophisticated, flirty, and fun - sometimes all at once. There's a bang shape that works for everybody (and if you don't believe me, check out my guide to finding the right fringe for your face). But when it's time to grow them out, they're more of a burden than a beauty boon. To find out how to deal with bangs when they're in that awkward stage, read more.

First off, take a look at your bangs. Are they all one length? If not, you need to work on evening them out. A lot of styles are shorter in the middle, and a bit longer on the sides. Wait until the shortest part of your bangs reaches just above your lashes, then trim them (just a touch!) so that they are all the same length. They will be much easier to manage this way.
Hair accessories are now officially your best friends. Indulge in some retail therapy and pick up a new sparkly clip or fun patent leather headband to help get you through the next few months.
Focus on styles that help the bangs blend into the rest of your hair. A hot look right now involves parting the front of your hair in the middle, twisting it off to either side, and securing it with clips. This might work better when your bangs are a bit longer. For shorter bangs, try twisting some of the longer hair from the side of your head in with the shorter pieces.
If you are going to push the bangs back with a headband, use a styling pomade to smooth them back into the rest of your hair first. Otherwise, they will stick straight up behind the band. Try Bumble & bumble Styling Wax ($23). Or you can pin them back with bobby pins, and place a headband or tie a hair ribbon right over the pins to conceal them.
Play around with your part. A side part is a flattering way to conceal bang regrowth. While hair is still wet, applying a medium hold styling gel or cream, such as mop defining cream ($12), to your bangs, then part and smooth to either side. Pin back if drying naturally, or brush to one side while blow drying. If bangs are still in the shorter stage, you may need to apply some molding wax once dry to get them to stay off to the side. I like Terax Sculpting Wax ($16).
If you're struggling with the styling options, you can grow out your bangs and keep them at the same time–allow me to explain. Pin back the top section of your bangs, leaving wispy, short pieces underneath. Keep those short, and worn as normal bangs, while growing out just the top section. You will have to keep it pinned back constantly, or under a headband, but this allows you to skip the "growing-out look" altogether. Once the top pieces are long enough, you can blend them into your shorter bangs until they are grown out.

Trend Alert: Bowl Bangs Make A Big Comeback

Three different ladies with three distinct styles come together with one big similarity – bowl bangs. As I type this, I'm getting flashbacks of hours spent trying for that perfect curl and, while it's a look I don't want to see staring back at me in the mirror, I appreciate their interpretations of the reappeared trend.Take Paris Hilton who (for once) shows the least dramatic variation. Her eyebrow-skimmers are slightly bumped under for a wispy curl, then tousled for less pronounced ends. Then there's Iman with even bangs slightly shorter than Paris'. The curl causes this face-framing cut to bring out her beautiful features – doesn't she look amazing at 53?! Lastly, we have Christina Aguilera whose style can be recreated with one hot curler. Her bang shape is distinct and it looks like her roller was tossed away minutes before the flash went off!
