One of the simplest, most leisurely, and affordable luxuries is a bubble bath. Most of the time, I just squirt some shower gel into the bath, but sometimes I treat myself to more of a spa-like treatment by splurging on a bath fizzy.

Around this time of year, I head to Lush to stock up on its Holiday bubble bar ($6.95). It is a ruby-red, sparkling thing of beauty that smells so gorgeous. The scent of carnations, a hint of tangerine and a bit of rose is soft and subtle and fresh. And it is such a treat to bathe in a pool of bubbly, shimmery pink water. I can get two uses out of each bubble bar, so it's an easy way to feel fancy without losing your shirt.

Product Review: Molton Brown Davana Blossom Foaming Bath Oil

I don't usually have a lot of extra time on my hands for an indulgent soak in the bath, but when I do manage some "me time" you better believe I pull out all the stops. Not only does a loofah, body scrub and an essential oil or two accompany me, but I also like to try out a new product in the hopes of creating the ultimate tub of bubbles.

I've been reading about the new Molton Brown Davana Blossom Foaming Bath Oil for some time now. It is said to have a spicy and floral aroma that can whisk all of your problems (and germs) away. Still, $67 per bottle just seems like pop-star prices. Fortunately, I was sent some to try and I thought I'd share my experience with you.

Pros: The smell is an intoxicating mixture of davana blossom, raspberry and concentrated star flower oil which makes your bath smell and feel like an elaborate Indian steam room. In addition, the foam lives up to its promise (yay)! By adding two capfuls to running water, the top layer of your tub will fill with bountiful bubbles.

Cons: Because it's a cleansing oil, it doesn't wash away like a soap. While some people might like a filmy layer on their skin for moisturizing purposes, I found it to be a little bit greasy.

One of the least expensive-and yet, most relaxing-luxuries is a long soak in the tub. It's such a simple thing, but I always emerge feeling refreshed and pampered. So I was happy to find this Women's Health article about creating the perfect bath. The writer consulted beauty experts and scientists to figure out what to do. Here are some of her findings:

Tweak the temp: You want to soak in water that's 97 to 99 degrees-just like you are. Any hotter and your nervous system goes into overdrive, as it struggles to adjust your internal thermostat.
Sink deeper: Dunk underwater until just your face peeks out. "The more of you that touches that water, the more you benefit," says Reinhard Bergel, Ph.D., coauthor of The Spa Encyclopedia. Warmth dilates capillaries, increasing the stream of nutrients and oxygen to every cell in the body.

Beauty Bloopers: The Midas Touch

Welcome to the second installment of Beauty Bloopers. A beauty blooper can be anything from a brow wax gone wrong to having lipstick on your teeth. So don't be shy-share your stories and I'll post some of them here on BellaSugar (anonymously, of course).

Since it's The Honeymoon's Over week here in Sugar-land, I thought it would be appropriate to share a "couple" incident. I'll let our anonymous newlywed take it away...

I love taking baths to relax and unwind, and I like trying unusual and colorful kinds of bubble baths. My husband, however, is more into showering, so usually he lets me bathe alone. One day he thought it would be romantic to take a bath together, so I directed him toward my bath supplies and let him run the tub. But we couldn't have known the disaster that would ensue...

I let my husband run the bath, but I didn't tell him how much bubble bath to use. (He's a big boy, right?) When I got into the bathroom, everything looked great-the tub was filled with fluffy, luscious, foamy bubbles. I stepped into the bath, relaxed, and then I noticed that the water was filled with gold litter. It turns out he'd used TWO glittery bath crumblies from Lush, whereas I make one bar last for two or three baths. When we got out of the tub, we were absolutely covered with tiny gold sparkles. We looked like a pair of Oscar statuettes. Worse still, even after we rinsed off in the shower, we found glitter everywhere for weeks. I like to tease him and call him King Midas, but we haven't shared a bath since.

Moral of the story: A little bit of glitter goes a long way.

Take two cups of raw, uncooked oatmeal and pour into a tepid-to-warm bathtub. Oatmeal contains healing properties and serves as an exfoliator and moisturizer.
Add one cup of whole milk to the bathwater. Milk is great for the skin; since it is full of proteins and vitamins A, D, and E, it has strong soothing properties.
Add one tablespoon of honey to the bath. Honey is high in vitamins C, D, E and B and is a natural antiseptic salve for the skin.
Soak in the tub for five to ten minutes. Rinse off and gently pat your body dry.
