Is the Blake the New Rachel?

In the '90s, one hairstyle reigned supreme: the Rachel. When Jennifer Aniston debuted this layered bob for Friends, it seemed like half the women in America followed suit. It truly is the era's iconic haircut. Now, The New York Times makes the case for Blake Lively's hair being the It style for this decade. "Her hair right now is a big trend," said New York stylist Nuri Yurt, adding that it works only for tall, thin women.

Blake Lively does have beautiful hair, but is it groundbreaking and iconic the way the Rachel was? I'm not convinced. What about you - do you think this is the new iconic cut, or is it just a bunch of buzz?

How-To: Blake Lively's Oh-So-Pretty Curls

Blake Lively always looks so pretty and friendly on the red carpet, and last night at the Where the Wild Things Are premiere, her look deserved a gold star. She's an incredibly beautiful woman, and she would probably look good with her head shaved, but what do you think about this braid? Is it the beginning of a trend, or a fashion misstep?

The Met's Costume Institute Gala: Blake Lively

Well I guess we know who won't be watching tonight's Gossip Girl and taking our GG beauty quiz: Blake Lively. She's too busy rocking the red carpet at the Costume Institute Gala. Her dress was sexed-up, while her hair and makeup tried to match the tone. The sleek, pulled-back hair was in opposition to her usual tousled curls, which I found refreshing. Her makeup, overall, looked just as put-together. The skin was flawless with a slight tan, leaving the attention to her pale-pink lips and heavily-lined eyes. Also, it may be an illusion, but her eyes look like an exact match to her dress. Do you like Lively's look, or do you prefer her as Miss van der Woodsen?

How-To: Blake Lively's Makeup at the Golden Globe Awards

Last night, Blake Lively stepped out in a gown (that most of you hated) and very casual hair for the red carpet. However, her makeup's spot on. She typically chooses similar beauty looks for the red carpet and on the set of Gossip Girl. As the saying goes: "If it's not broken . . ."

Makeup artist Angela Levin, working with Chanel, created last night's look for Blake. To find out how to recreate it at home, read more.

Face: Apply foundation and concealer where necessary. Follow up with Chanel Les Tissages De Chanel in Tweed Rose on the apples of cheeks. To add a bit of bronze shimmer, apply just a touch of Sheer Brillance in Sunkissed after that.
Eyes: Blend all four shades from Chanel Quadra Eye Shadow in Mystic Eyes on the lids. To make eyes pop, continue with several layers of Exceptionnel De Chanel Mascara in Smoky Noir on your lashes.
Lips: With more makeup on your eyes, choose a natural color like Blake's Chanel Glossimer in Beige Guitare to keep your lips simple.

2009 Golden Globe Awards: Blake Lively

Gossip Girl Blake Lively may be miles away from her fictional flat on the Upper East Side, but she looked right at home on the red carpet at tonight's Golden Globes. While it's hard to make this girl appear anything other than stunning, I'm of two minds with this particular look. I think her makeup looks beautiful. The lips and cheeks are nicely rouged, and the eyes pop with their dark liner and long lashes. Her shadow even matches her dress. But, on the other hand, her hair looks just a tad too casual for this particular event. I would have preferred to see an updo, or even a sleek ponytail. Are you with me, or do you think this girl can do no wrong?

Who Do You Think Will Be the New Face of Dolce & Gabbana Makeup?

When it comes to fashion, Dolce & Gabbana is a celeb favorite. And when it comes to makeup, the Italian fashion house will soon deliver. After several years in the making, Dolce & Gabbana will launch a new makeup line at the end of next month, WWD reports.

So, now it's time to do a little beauty sleuthing, Sherlock. There's a rumor circulating that a "Hollywood starlet" will be the face of this aforementioned line, appearing in various ad campaigns. I have an idea in my head of who it might be, so tell me - can you crack the case?

How-To: Blake Lively's Teen Choice Awards Hair

You all really loved Blake Lively's look at the 2008 Teen Choice Awards, judging by the poll results. This casual updo showcases her golden highlights and gives her a sassy yet casual vibe. Best of all, it's the polar opposite of structured, every-hair-in-its-place updos - so you don't need to be a Sally Hershberger or Frederic Fekkai to recreate it at home.

Step one: Start with freshly washed hair, then blow-dry it until it's about 70-80 percent dry. Apply a styling cream like Bumble and Bumble's Styling Lotion for some texture and soft hold. Continue to blow-dry using a round brush, focusing on lifting your roots for volume.
Step two: Create a side part. It doesn't have to be perfect - the whole style is meant to be a little unkempt.
Step three: Separate your entire bang area from one ear all the way to the next. Do this by taking a chunk of hair starting at your hairline and continuing about two inches back. Gather from one side of the part down to your ear, and then do the same thing on the other side.
Step four: With an elastic band, create a low-slung ponytail, keeping the bangs separate.
Step five: Now here's the fun part! Loosely twist pieces of your bangs back into the ponytail. Secure them with bobby pins, or tuck them into the ponytail band itself. Concentrate on the heavy side of the part, twisting two or three sections. On the not-so-heavy side, twist only one or two smaller sections. Let a nice piece of your bangs hang down, like Blake does near her center part. If any pieces fall out, tuck them behind your ear or leave them the way they naturally fall. Blake's look has such a tousled feel.
Step six: For the final touches, lightly curl the ends of your hair around your face and throughout the ponytail. Take a one-inch section from the ponytail and wrap it around the elastic band to hide any pins; secure with a well-hidden bobby pin. Add a touch of lightweight texturizing hairspray, like Frederic Fekkai's Coiff Oceanique Tousled Wave Spray ($23), and you are ready to go!
