Study Finds That Blondes Make $900 a Year More

Is making more money one of your resolutions for 2011? Perhaps going blond is the answer, then. A recent study by British beauty and health retailer Superdrug found that blondes bring in over $900 more a year compared to redheads and brunettes. "The good news is that there is no difference for those with a natural hair color and those with dyed hair," said Superdrug's Simon Comins. The results, however, directly contradict the findings of a similar study performed by Garnier Nutrisse almost two years ago, so, you know, take it with a grain of salt. In Russia, Blond Hair Is a Hot Commodity

In the small town of Mosalsk, Russia, lies a booming business, Belli Capelli, which makes $16 million a year buying and eventually selling human hair - mostly of the blond variety. "Russian hair is the best in the world," the building's owner, Aleksei N. Kuznetsov, bragged to The NYT. The reason? While dark hair obtained from other countries is easier to come by, blond hair is relatively rare. The best blond, according to Kuznetsov, contains honey undertones, feels soft, and reflects light. Blond hair is also easier to color match to a woman's natural shade, and thanks to the flaxen-haired, extension-sporting Hollywood set, blond strands are more popular than ever. A Swanky Vacation Spot Will Be Staffed by Blondes Only

In today's you've-got-to-be-kidding-me news, a Lithuanian firm has plans to open a resort on a private island in the Maldives, and it's to be staffed solely by blond women. Olialia (pronounced ooh-la-la, no joke), the firm behind the controversial plan, is set to open the resort in 2015.

Female guests will be offered the opportunity to head to an on-site education center, where they'll learn "how to always be perfect and look great." Groan. As you can imagine, the plans, which could be construed as sexist, discriminatory, and feeding into stereotypes, aren't going over very well. Not to mention the fact that local laws state that at least 50 percent of the staff must be residents of the community - a group that is not naturally flaxen-haired.

Still, the company finds no problems with the plan and insists that it isn't just about looks. "Our girls [the staff] are very smart and they have degrees. All of them want to do something with their lives. They have lots of business ideas," said Olialia's Giedre Pukiene. Your thoughts?

It's True! Blondes Do Have More Funds

Do blondes have more fun? The jury's out, but according to a recent study by The Motley Fool, they do earn more money. On average, flaxen-haired women in the UK take home the equivalent of $1,556 each month, while brunettes make about $1,432. Redheads earn even less, with an average of $1,357. But does this mean blondes are richer? Yes and no. The study found that 35 percent spend more than they make, mostly splurging on chocolate, shoes, and bags. We're taking these findings with a Costco economy-sized gallon of salt, but at least the study makes for conversation fodder this weekend.
