Carol's Daughter Is a Disney Girl

This October, Carol's Daughter is launching a new bath collection to celebrate Disney's next big release, The Princess and the Frog. The film, due in December, has raised both excitement and WWD, she says the film is “an event with significant social importance. I’m thrilled and proud that African-American girls everywhere will see the movie and see someone to identify with.” The Carol's Daughter bubble bath, detangler, shampoo, and conditioner celebrate the new princess, Tiana, by featuring moments from the film on their packaging. Like other products from the line, these will include ingredients aimed at pampering African-American hair in particular, although they're said to be suitable for everyone. Each item in the collection is nicely priced at $10. Although I'm not sure what to expect of the movie yet, I do love Carol's Daughter - the products are inexpensive and the ingredients are sure to be high quality, so I might check these out.

Love It or Hate It? Rihanna Heads to the Spa

When Rihanna goes beauty shopping, she really goes beauty shopping. During a trek to the spa at Carol's Daughter in Harlem, she showed off yet another fun, risk-taking look. (Love her for changing things up all the time.) This time, she paired metallic blue eyeliner with a soft, shiny pink lip - and a punk-meets-pompadour hairstyle. Are you a fan of this look on her, or not? Either way, don't get too used to it, because if anybody keeps her style fresh, it's Rihanna.

Mary J. Blige to Launch Her Own Fragrance

For celebrities, having your own perfume is considered a lucrative rite of passage, so it's somewhat surprising that Mary J. Blige hasn't had a signature scent before now. She's developing a fragrance with Brooklyn-based beauty brand Carol's Daughter.

Set for a release sometime next year, her My Life fragrance borrows its name from her second album. No word on what the juice will be like, but this is one scent that might get some hands-on attention. “Ever since I was a child, I loved buying products that made me feel beautiful and clean,” Mary said to WWD. “I’m a total beauty nut - you should check out all the junk in my bathroom.”

The world needs another celebrity fragrance about as much as it needs another reality show, but somehow, I'm rooting for Mary J. She's always seemed so strong and smart (and sexy!) - and although I'm kinda meh on the scent name, here's hoping for her success.

Former ANTM Contestants Compete to Sell Beauty Products

You know the old saying: If at first you don't become America's Next Top Model, try, try again. That's exactly what five former ANTM contestants are doing - with a little help from Tyra and product placement, of course.

Would-be models Bianca, Renee, Lauren, Dominique, and Fatima are all participating in Modelville, a reality show within The Tyra Banks Show. Beginning in today's episode, they'll live in a New York City apartment and compete to win a $50,000 modeling contract with beauty brand Carol's Daughter. How do they do that? By creating, producing, and starring in their own TV commercials, of course. Oh, the hijinks that will ensue. Among Lauren the punk rocker, Bianca the Blonsky-fighter, and Dominique the drama queen, we should be in for some laughs.

Try saying this one three times fast. Not only is this new SweetHoneyDip ChocolateBrownSugah Scrub ($34) from Carol's Daughter so good that you can almost eat it, but it works wonders to slough away dead skin cells. After trying this sweet treat in a hot bath last weekend, I loved the way it left my skin feeling moisturized, soft and luxuriously smooth.

It's packed with real chocolate, honey, vanilla bean and chunks of brown sugar (a natural exfoliant) so it smells divine and feels incredible on your body. It's also formulated with a blend of evening primrose oil, omega 6-fatty acids, vitamin E and olive oil to help restore elasticity and hydrate dry skin.

You may think that the honey, sugar and chocolate would be way too sticky to put on your body, but it's actually not that bad. If you apply a teaspoon at a time to the palms of your hands, then rub it into your wet skin in small circular motions, you'll be all set. Oh, and if you lick a little "by accident" while you're at it, don't worry, it's not going to hurt you - although I'd advise nibbling an actual dessert after a good scrub instead.

New Product Alert: Carol's Daughter Candy Paint

It's exciting to see Carol's Daughter grow from a teeny-tiny operation to a large-and-in-charge one. The Brooklyn-based line is known for its hair and skin products, and now it's expanding into color with the launch of Candy Paint.

Candy Paint is a collection of lip glosses in 12 colors. Carol's Daughter is often thought of as a great company for women of color, so it's no surprise that many of the shades would look wonderful on darker skin. But others seem like they'd be just as flattering on fair skin, too-there really is a shade for everybody. What's nice about these glosses is that they have shea butter, but they're free of petroleum, mineral oil, artificial colors and parabens. What's more, a portion of sales of the $13.50 gloss benefit the Lupus Foundation of America. I haven't tried these yet, but I'm hoping to swing by Sephora this weekend to check out the consistency.
