Trend Alert: Farrah Fawcett Hair

They say everything old is new again. (Does that mean the return of claw bangs? I hope not.) But when popular styles from years ago do start to resurface, it's always nice to see how it's adapted to modern times. Take Farrah Fawcett, for instance. Her feathery style was the hallmark of mid- to late-1970s beauty. Is it back in full swing? Not quite, but I'm loving this new version, which is not as much about volume as it is about soft, shiny waves that are curled away from the face. The feathery quality is still there - it's just been refined.
Farrah used to get her flippy style with the Schick Speed Styler, as evidenced by this commercial. But if you like this new take on "The Farrah," it's easy to do. After blowing out your hair, apply hairspray with a drier formulation that still provides shine, like Sally Hershberger Supreme Head Brilliant Hairspray ($13). Next, using a flat iron, wrap sections of hair around the barrel of the iron, as if you were using a curling iron. Focus on curling each section away from your face. When you're finished, you can either softly twist sections together so that they're intertwined or lightly break up the style with your fingers. Spritz again with hairspray, and you'll be far out.

Love It or Hate It? Charlize Theron's Fashion Rocks Look

It's hard to focus on Charlize's hair or makeup with such bling on her neck. Seriously, it's blinding! That being said, Charlize looks like the model she once was with her sun-kissed skin and blond curly locks. I'm surprised that she's letting her roots show, but it does add some nice dimension. As for the makeup, she accentuated her tan with rosy cheeks and deep, seductive eyes. It's all about the liner here. Are you digging Charlize's chic, California vibe?

Trend Alert: Side-Swept Updos

You weren't so fond of Katherine Heigl's side-swept curls a few weeks ago, but lately I've seen side-swept hair everywhere. Side ponytails remain to be a trend, but why not jazz it up a bit? Sweeping the hair to the side or front in an updo creates a modern style that's interesting and elegant.

To get this look, curl all of your hair with a curling iron or hot rollers first. Use a medium-strength texturizing gel, such as Frederic Fekkai's Coiff Bouffant Lifting and Texturizing Spray Gel ($23), for hold without the crunch. For a straight and sleek option, use a smoothing cream like Bumble and bumble's Styling Lotion $(23). Pin back to the side and set with a light spray such as Ted Gibson Beautiful Hold Hairspray ($28). For a healthy shine, complete either look with Ojon's Shine & Protect Glossing Mist ($28).

Bella Interview: Shane Paish, Dior Global Makeup Advisor

When Charlize Theron travels the world for red-carpet events, Shane Paish is not far away. As the global makeup advisor for Dior, he comes up with beautiful makeup looks - often while preparing Charlize for the camera.

In between creating these varied makeup looks for her Hancock premieres, he had time for a quick e-mail interview. Along with letting us know that Charlize is "addicted" to L'Or de Vie skin care, he's revealed his inspiration for these looks.

The cities provided inspiration for the Hancock makeup looks. What particularly inspired you? Was it the architecture, the people, its history...?
A mixture of everything, actually. For Russia, the obvious inspiration is the color red and also this very bold, no-holds-barred attitude the women there have towards makeup. Russian women like to be noticed and they love their makeup! So I had a lot of fun with that look; it was very sophisticated and glamorous. Charlize was also wearing this gorgeous red dress so the lips just kind of went along with that. Parisian women, on the other hand, are a bit more sophisticated and subtle. There is an air of sensuality in everything they do, but it's a bit more under-the-radar. Charlize's look for Paris had that cool, avant garde feel-and everyone likes a sexy, smoky eye.

Charlize has fair skin and blonde hair. Which makeup colors flatter this
combination most?
There are two looks that I tend to lean towards when it comes to Charlize. One is the dark, smoky eye and pale lip (she looks amazing in this!) and the other is a softer, more bronzy look: still a smoky eye, but using golds and browns, with pink or peachy lips. I think most people look good in a sheer pink gloss, and a little blush or bronzer never hurt anyone. I'm also a huge fan in general of the smoky eye-it adds instant sex appeal!

After you apply Charlize’s makeup, what happens if she needs a touchup? Are you usually nearby, or is she like the rest of us with a lipstick tucked in her clutch?
Charlize carries Dior blotting papers (genius!) and a lipstick or gloss in her clutch to keep fresh. Pretty simple!

Within the beauty/makeup world, what feels fresh to you right now?
Peachy, coral-y lip colors, and smoky eyes using unexpected shades like bronze and gold. Also, metallics are my absolute favorite right now. They aren't the glittery metallics of years past but more of a sheer glimmer, a glow.

Trend Alert: Sheer White Nail Polish

History is repeating itself once again with the return of the pale white nail. But this time around instead of being ultra opaque or iridescent, the colors are less intense and more sheer. Just the other night at the Sleepwalking movie screening, I noticed the feminine fingertips of Charlize Theron, Tinsley Mortimer and Beth Ostrosky. Here are two sheer white nail shades I think you'll really get into for spring.

White Satin by Chanel ($19) is a limited-edition shade of glossy white. The first coat is very sheer, but you can layer it to create a more potent polish. And if you're into french manicures, one coat looks beautiful over the white tips.

Barielle Nail Shades in Sensitive ($8) is sheer shell white color that has a high shine finish and claims to be salon-strength. Also, it's tolulene free - awesome.

In addition, Zoya also has a new white shade out for spring called Purity, but from what I understand it's heavier and more opaque than it is sheer.
