Clairol Uses a Talking Mirror to Surprise Women

Imagine hurrying through the subway when, suddenly, a disembodied voice comes out of a huge mirror in the middle of the concourse and starts asking you whether you need to touch up your roots. In New York's Grand Central Station this week, some women actually had this experience when Clairol set up a giant talking mirror to promote its Root Touch Up product.

The installation used actress Angela Kinsey (who plays Angela on The Office) to spot people, as WWD reports, who looked like easy targets. At that point, Angela called out to ask people to look at their reflection. Then, the "mirror" directed women to colorist Marie Robinson, who gave them a color consultation and a box of Nice 'N Easy. The Internet was in a tizzy yesterday after Kristen Stewart debuted a new hair color, a gorgeous coppery shade that the majority of you were loving. Want to get the look? Stewart's main stylist, Adir Abergel, worked with Clairol Celebrity Stylist Marie Robinson to create the new color. To recreate the '50s-inspired hue at home, they recommend Fekkai Salon Color in 6R Copper-Lucy ($30). Now You Can Touch Up Your Roots Online

Visible roots have been trendy on and off for a few years now, but if you're not a fan, Clairol just introduced a digital touch-up tool that lets you "fix" pics of yourself with the offending exposed hairs. The tool, which basically overlays your roots with a color more similar to the rest of your hair, was released to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the brand's popular Root Touch Up hair color, and also offers color selection advice. I'll admit that scrubbing the touch-up tool over the model's head was pretty fun, though I don't know how great results will be if your picture has nonstandard lighting or is lighter/darker than the tool can read. If you need to look freshly dyed for your Facebook friends, though, this is a pretty fun and easy option.

Yesterday, the majority of you voted that you love Michelle Williams's new haircut and color that she debuted at Cannes. And we have the scoop straight from her colorist, Marie Robinson, on the how and why behind Michelle's pretty almost-platinum look. So why the new color? Marie says that shorter hair, especially a pixie, looks great in a lighter hue, so she took Michelle's color up a couple of levels to get a really standout effect.

She also had a little advice on how to get Michelle's color without a trip to the salon, and told us that if "your hair is a light brown to light blond shade, it's easy to achieve this at home - try Clairol Perfect 10 Flaxen in a Flash ($9) to get the right shade of extra light blond."

Do You Think There's an Ideal Age For Happiness?

I found the results of this study dubious, and then I read that Clairol Perfect 10 sponsored the research, asking 4,000 women between ages 25 and 65 at what age they were happiest.

The answer? 28, before visible aging occurs (wrinkles, gray hair - you know, the things Clairol has products for) and when sex is supposed to be best. (Wait, I thought sex was best for women in their 30s and 40s?) In addition to being happiest with their looks in their late 20s, the women surveyed said their careers and relationships were best in the 28 to 30 range.

A spokesperson for Clairol Perfect 10 said, "A little time put aside in hectic schedules for self-pampering and the odd beauty product can help keep you feeling young and looking your best." Riiiight.
