When you're on the red carpet wearing a red dress and you have red hair like Debra Messing, would you wear red lipstick? That might be what one would call overkill, and that's probably why the actress opted for a nude-toned lip instead. As for the rest of her makeup, the funny lady paired that glossy lip color with an orange blush and lots of dark mascara.

Whether we love it or hate it in the end, it's great to see celebrities take risks with their looks. I've gathered some contrasting photos where one beauty detail is more exaggerated or less exaggerated in each picture. To make it fair, I'm only comparing the same celebrity with herself – so get started and let me know if you like a big impact or a more subtle look.

Whether you loved it or hated it, you've got to hand it to Debra Messing for going a bit bolder with her color scheme last night, particularly when it came to those heavily lined peepers.
The founder of Lorac Cosmetics, Carol Shaw, was the makeup artist behind Messing's look. She applied sultry green and black accents, which complemented Messing's midnight blue Zac Posen gown, keeping the cheeks and lips soft and neutral.

You probably adored her as the quirky Grace Adler on Will & Grace, for which she was nominated six times for a Golden Globe award. And now that she's starring in a new series, Debra Messing is up for another Golden Globe tonight for her role on The Starter Wife.
With a midnight blue taffeta dress, jewel-toned emerald earrings, and voluminous auburn curly locks, her look is bold and colorful.

Debra Messing's got the look — and it's pretty intense. After all, her strong gaze looks even more so with heavily smudged lines emphasizing the outer parts of her eyes. False eyelashes highlight one dramatic stare.
