Diane is just as dynamic when it comes to her hair as she is with the roles she takes. In the past couple months, she's had oodles of offbeat bobby pins, and worn her hair up, down, and in every pretty variation in between. She even started the hot fishtail braid trend back in May. I'd like to give Diane Kruger several enthusiastic rounds of applause for turning classic styles into something with an edge. Remember her fashionable twisty ponytail or her breezy summertime braids?

At yesterday's Inglourious Basterds premiere in Berlin, Diane's dramatically dark eye makeup and bold, matte lipstick made a statement. And the creative use of bobby pins in her waved hairstyle made for a truly inventive way to use these standard, everyday metal clips. Notice how the pins almost mock a side-braid from afar.

Pins are a great tool for stretching out a haircut and making a style that's growing out look more manageable. And I now have a newfound love for them, thanks to Diane.

How-To: Diane Kruger's Summertime Hairstyle

I can't help but admire Diane Kruger's laid-back braid, which she wore to the Inglourious Basterds photo call at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this week. The chunky to-the-side style, which starts off as a French braid, morphs into a fishtail as it cascades down.

To get the look, apply a matte styling product on dry hair to "roughen up" the texture and provide hold. Try Garnier Fructis Style Surf Hair Texture Paste Matte Effect ($3.50). Tease the hair slightly to give it some hold, and then smooth out with a comb. Part your hair to the side and get weaving. Starting on the side opposite of the heavy part, begin French braiding from the top of the ear, all the way down to the nape. Secure with a ponytail holder. Next, repeat the same steps on the heavy side of the part, adding the previously braided strands into the mix. Once you have incorporated the two sides together, create a loose fishtail braid from the nape to the ends, looping the final strand around the base of the braid. Secure it with a clear elastic band. Voilà! It's instant summertime chic.

Since she often opts for enviable hairstyles, it's no surprise I'm admiring both of these looks from Diane Kruger. She chose the messy bun with barely-there barrette for the Paris premiere of Pour Elle, yet went with a sleek updo at the Bambi Awards. I like the wispy tendrils from the loose bun but prefer the slickly pulled back look of the other one – I'd love to take a little bit of both 'cause I'm having trouble naming a fave. Not considering her drastically different makeup on each of these dates, which appeals more to you?

How-To: Diane Kruger's Fresh Twisty Side Ponytail

Diane Kruger's style never disappoints. She's like the girl you admire from afar and want to befriend because she's just that cool. At yesterday's Tommy Hilfiger show, Kruger sported a casually trendy side-swept ponytail with a twist - literally. While we've seen versions of this look just about everywhere lately, her shorter style gives it an effortlessly chic (and sassy) look. For a how-to on achieving this fashionably laid-back style, check out my instructions below:

Blow-dry hair and apply a light/medium hold shine gel like Aveda Brilliant Retexturing Gel ($6 to $16) when your hair is about 80 percent dry. Continue drying using a brush to create texture.
Part your hair to one side (left or right - you choose). Next separate your fringe area. Do this by taking a chunk of hair from the parted side that has more hair, starting at your hairline, and going about two to three inches (right around your ear area). The hair you are gathering now is the hair that will be twisted later, so make sure you have a decent amount. Repeat this step on the lighter side of the part.
Pull remaining hair back into a low-slung ponytail on the opposite side of your part. So, if you parted your hair on the left side, sling the ponytail back to the right.

Now we twist. Take one fringe section at a time (leaving a few pieces out to frame your face) and lightly roll back into your ponytail. Affix the rolls to your existing ponytail with an elastic band or bobby pins in a color that matches your hair such as Scunci Bobby-Pins ($1.90 to $2.10) in blonde, brown/black, or auburn. Pin any loose pieces on into the twist, if needed.
Finishing touches: Use your fingers to soften any hard edges. Finish off with a light/medium hold hair spray.

Trend Alert: Summertime Neon Nails

Check out the neon nails on Diane Kruger! Ever since the Costume Institute Gala I've been dying to talk about how she matched her shoes to her nails.

Celebrities and especially teenagers are going bonanza over the new fun, pop-colored nail polish quads from Essie and Chanel. They contain four minisized bottles of pink, yellow, orange, and either a blue or purple high-shine varnish. I'll be the first to admit that these electric '80s-inspired shades are fresh, but I think I would only dare to wear them on my toes. Are you confident enough to cruise around in these colors?

Color Power from Essie ($15 for four) is a great way to brighten up your fingers or toes for summertime. The white box has bright flowers printed on it and houses a red, yellow, orange, and a shimmery opalescent, bright-blue lacquer with flirty names such as cool click, flirty girl, crush, and txt me.

The Chanel Robertson Collection ($25 for four) is set to launch online in July. This minirange is named after Robertson Boulevard, the young and hip shopping street in Los Angeles where Chanel has just opened a boutique.

The collection includes a pink, purple, yellow, and tangerine polish and each shade is named after other famous streets nearby like Melrose, Rodeo Drive, LA Sunrise, and LA Sunset. Ain't it grand when beauty and fashion can collaborate like this!

Love It or Hate It? Diane Kruger's Costume Institute Gala Look

Tonight Diane Kruger looked like a cross between Kristin Chenoweth and an Austin Powers femme-bot. Doesn't sound like a compliment, but really it is. The typically demure Diane Kruger wore this season's red "it" lip to Condé Nast Movies Rock. With her perfect skin, sparkling smile and bright eyes, I think she pulled it off beautifully. I also happen to really like her pale pink lips at the GQ Turns 50 celebration party as well as her natural and shiny coral-colored lipstick from the 64th Venice Film Festival. I can't decide what shade of lipstick I like best on her. Can you?
