"I don't pretend to be an ordinary housewife," Elizabeth Taylor once confessed, and her seven husbands certainly didn't treat her like one. Over the years they showered her with jewels, which became some of her most prized possessions. After presenting a public exhibition, Christie's has just auctioned off Elizabeth Taylor's jewels for a record-breaking $115 million. Many of the pieces sold were given to her by her twice-husband Richard Burton - including the infamous "Elizabeth Taylor Diamond."

While she's remembered for her acting, men, and charity work, Elizabeth Taylor will always be associated with diamonds and opulent jewels. Let's take a look at some of the jewels in her collection and the love stories behind them.

Will You Visit the Elizabeth Taylor Exhibition?

Besides her prolific acting career, Elizabeth Taylor was known as a serious collector of jewelry, art, and fashion. Now, her collection will be showcased in a series of public exhibitions and special events curated by the auction house Christie's, culminating in the sale of Elizabeth Taylor's collection. The international, three-month tour will begin in September with stops in Paris, London, Los Angeles, Dubai, Moscow, Geneva, and Hong Kong. Ultimately, the tour will end at New York's Rockefeller Center with a 10-day exhibition of Taylor's collection of fashion, accessories, jewelry, and art. The auction will then take place from Dec. 3 through Dec. 16.

While I'm definitely curious to see what Ms. Taylor has - she has an impressive collection of impressionist and modern art - I'm also happy to hear that Christie's will honor Taylor's devotion to humanitarian causes by donating a portion of the money from the events to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, which provides funding to AIDS service organizations throughout the world to assist those living with HIV and AIDS. Tell me, is this a collection you'd be interested in visiting? Personally, I'd love to see what art she collected over her lifetime.

Host a Retrospective of Elizabeth Taylor's Career in Your Own Home

In collaboration with the Kobal Collection and the Film Society Lincoln Center, New York's Big Eye Gallery is running an exhibition, titled The Golden Age, showcasing rarely seen photographs of Elizabeth Taylor. The photos of the iconic actress were taken by leading Hollywood photographers, including Virgil Apger, Floyd McCarty, Clarence Sinclair Bull, Bob Coburn, and Bob Penn. If you're in Manhattan, you can visit the exhibit at the Frieda and Roy Furman Gallery through June 9. And if not, you're still in luck! Big Eye Gallery is making a limited edition of prints available to the public for purchase, and they can be ordered framed or unframed. I thought I'd share some of my favorites with you. Angelina Jolie Wants to Play a Smarter, Less-Sexy Cleopatra

Angelina Jolie recently opened up about her family life, career, and partner Brad Pitt's manliness in an extensive interview with the UK's Telegraph, while also touching on the life of another famous sex symbol: Cleopatra. The actress is set to play the iconic queen in an upcoming film directed by David Fincher, but she says this will be much more than a modern remake. It will feature a completely different Cleopatra, one claimed to be closer to the real woman.

Angelina says even she misunderstood the Egyptian leader and strong mother who spoke five languages. Comparing her vision to that seen in Elizabeth Taylor's epic film, Angelina explains: "My performance will never be as lovely as Elizabeth's. We are trying to get into a different truth about her as a pharaoh in history and not as a sex symbol, because she really wasn't. Even this idea of her having many lovers - it was possible that it was only two. She is very interesting, but she wasn't a great beauty."

The difference in portrayal didn't originate with Angelina, but rather with the academic biography Cleopatra: A Life by Stacy Schiff, which will serve as the basis of the movie. The book presents Cleopatra as a groundbreaking female leader who used her smarts rather than sex appeal to rule. Do you think Angelina can pull off the role?
