A few weeks ago, I contacted makeup artist Amy Oresman, who was responsible for creating Hayden Panettiere's dazzling Emmy look. And here's a little gem that didn't make it into the original post.

"What can you say about the often-repeated beauty advice to match your eye shadow shade to your eye color?" I asked. Here's what she had to say: "Don't believe it! Matchy-matchy eye shadows compete with your natural eye color, making it look more muted and washed-out."

So, fill me in. Do you already follow this advice, or do you "break the rules" by color coordinating?

Eye Palettes To Enhance Your Eye Color: Blue Eyes

Welcome to my fourth and final installment of my Eye Palettes to Enhance Your Eye Color series. This post focuses on blue eye shadows to make your baby blues look bad ass!

After consulting with many makeup mavens and experts, I've discovered that it takes more than just one color to make blue eyes bold. The perfect palette is hard to come by, but I've found a few that get the job done well. Each of these include three to five shades of just the right blue hues to perfectly enhance your eyes.

The lightest neutral shade is the accent color that should go just beneath your brow-bone, the medium color should be swept all over your lid and the darkest gets applied to the crease.

Eye Palettes To Enhance Your Eye Color: Green Eyes

Welcome to my third installment of Eye Palettes to Enhance Your Eye Color. This post features green shaded shadows created especially to make green eyes pop! Green has both a warming and cooling effect on the eyes. The color symbolizes: balance, harmony, and stability. You can use bright, chartreuse colors for a springtime feel or darker more olive colors for a fall/winter look.

Each of these palettes include three to four shades of just the right greens and golds to perfectly enhance your eyes. The lightest neutral shade is the highlighter and goes just beneath your brow-bone; the medium color should be swept all over your lid and the darkest is applied to the crease. gloEye Shadow Trio in Amethyst by GloMinerals, $29.50, is a three color collection of eye shadows for hazel eyes. I've been using this palette for a long time and I still can't find a sable color quite like this one (the reddish color).

This high quality brand makes shadows that last. It won't crease, the colors blend easily and the palette is small enough to carry with you anywhere.

Wet n Wild Mega Eyes in Mojave Mauves, $2.99, is an easy to use palette because the colors go in order of use. Start from the bottom and apply that shade from your lid to the crease. Next apply the darkest shadow in your crease and blend well. Lastly, apply the light pink from your crease to your brow and dab just a little bit with the applicator in the inner corners of your eye.

If you want, wet the crease color and use it as a liner, or else line your eyes (top and bottom) in black. These pretty shades are long lasting, silky smooth and they won't break the bank.

What A Pair: Cream and Powder Eye Shadow Duos

Usually eye shadows come in palettes that have either a powder or cream consistency, so it's rare when you find a few dynamite duos that contain one of each. Here are three amazing cream and powder eye shadow pairs that I think you'll love as much as I do.

A few days ago I promised you more info on the Laura Mercier Eye Colour Pot ($32) from the Gold Digger collection (which totally looks like the Senna Cosmetics Mineral Mix Blush & Tint). The top of the container houses a cream eye shadow and the bottom holds the loose powder shadow. The colors can be blended together (cream color is typically applied first) for an intensified eye, or worn separately. It comes in bronzed gold, solid gold, and white gold.

DuWop Smoke ($28) is a dual cream and powder eye shadow palette that makes creating smoky eyes a cinch. I have olive branch and plum wine and I use them all the time, day or night. All you have to do is swipe the cream shadow over your lid in the area between your top lashes and your crease and then add the powder shadow on top to set it. The compact comes with two mini-brushes and is available in four shades.

Christian Dior Cruise Collection 2008: Backstage Beauty

Last night in New York City, Christian Dior put on a fashion show to unveil John Galliano's 2008 ready-to-wear cruise collection. The look of the show was very 1960s mod, reminiscent of the looks we saw on the runways for fall and of Sienna Miller in Factory Girl.

The clothing was full of color, and the hair was bouffant and dramatic. Stylist Orlando Pita either created beehives or teased hair at the crown and placed a thick headband high on the forehead. Renowned makeup artist Pat McGrath also created magnificent mod looks on all of the models.

Face: Yes, these models have great skin, but that's also part of this look. For a flawless face, begin by using Dior Skinflash Radiance Booster Pen to conceal dark circles and blemishes, then apply DiorSkin AirFlash Spray Foundation to create a beautiful semi-matte canvas.
Cheeks: All of these girls have a teensy bit of tan enhanced with a slight pink flush on their cheeks. Perhaps they were using Dior Bronze Sunshine Blush in Sunrise Party 001. Take a blush brush, swirl it across all four colors, and sweep the blush starting at the apples of your cheeks and working your way out toward your hairline.
Eyes:Since this looks is all about mod, the eyes and lips and the central points of focus. This new and very cool Dior Logo Palette is all that you are going to need! Start by applying the white shadow all over your lid. Next, choose either the pink or the purple and apply it on your lid stopping before the crease. Take the rust color and apply just a little bit for definition in the crease.
Next, heavily line your eyes by wetting the black shadow and drawing a line that will run from the inner corner of your eyelash line and extend out to create wings. This is going to be a heavy line, so be prepared to go over it a few times until you reach your desired length. Also, remember that the line gets increasingly thicker as you work your way outward. Then, line your lower lids and concentrate the thickness toward the outer corners as well.

Once you are finished with the black, take the white shadow and run it along the rims of your lower lashes to really make your eyes pop! Finish with two coats of the new Diorshow Black Out Mascara and an extra-long set of false lashes.
Lips: Line your lips with a pale pink liner, such as Dior Lipliner Pencil in Heather Rose, then fill in your lips completely. Next, apply a light layer of sheer nude/pink lipstick, such as Dior Addict Ultra Shine Sheer Lipcolor in Shiniest Beige, all over the lips. Lastly, take a tissue and blot lips once for a more matte finish. Do not use lip gloss for this look.

Brand-New Brand: Jouer Cosmetics
