Emma Stone sure knows how to glam it up, doesn't she? At last night's GQ Men of the Year event in LA, the actress wowed in this subtle lavender shadow. Encircling the eyes with makeup can look raccoon-like, but Emma manages to pull it off, thanks to a light touch and a soft-toned shade.

Recently, I learned a tip from La Prairie's Color Ambassador, Raychel Wade. It's so obvious, yet so incredibly true. She says:
When it comes to eye shadow quads, don't feel pressured to use all four colors in a quad at once.

Katy Perry is known for her daring makeup and clothing, but last night at the This Is It premiere in LA, she chose an understated look. Her eye makeup, which made her eyes look incredibly bright and clear, was especially nice. It was a smoky eye, using bright shadow instead of dark liner on the bottom, and the complementary tones looked amazing.

According to a new consumer study by Harris Interactive, 67 percent of women between ages 18 and 34 think that wearing "no eye makeup at all" is a cool beauty trend to follow. I'm kind of surprised by those numbers, given how few people I know are willing to leave the house without a coat of mascara. While I'm sure the Harris study's methods were sound, I'm not sure about the people they polled.

When it comes to applying your makeup, what area do you find to be the trickiest? If you're like me, it's all about the eye area. While I love trying trendy shades and techniques, sometimes I just want a quick and easy routine.

Urban Decay's Eyeshadow ($16) has long been a favorite of makeup junkies, but lately the company has expanded its collection even further to include new textures and colors. Reader gooz1231 tried out the newest palette, and says:
"The brighter colors have great pigmentation and they go on lovely and smoothly. Some of the colors, like Midnight Cowboy Rides Again, tend to have chunky glitter, so I would avoid those—but the rest are really nice.

You know blue eye shadow is pretty and mainstream again when Jennifer Garner is wearing it. Blue has been trying to make a comeback for a long time now, but those of us whose initial, terrifying thoughts are of Bret Michaels circa 1987 are going to need some convincing. Never fear, my Poisonphobic friends!

I'm a big fan of Bobbi Brown's great Long Wear Gel Eyeliner ($21) for waterlining and intense pigment, but Bobbi doesn't make bright teal, which is one of my favorite shades to wear, so I turned to HIP Color Rich Cream Eyeliner ($12). I like it because it sticks nicely on the rims of my eyes, and therefore I don't have any trouble with bright blue smudges. If you're a fan of waterlining, I highly recommend this one.

You would have thought it was still pre-Labor Day with the way celebrities were wearing white eye shadow on the red carpet. Ladies from The Hills, from The City, and from just plain ol' Hollywood were all about the white out, whether, like Beyonce, they kept it subtle along their upper lids or, like Lauren Conrad, had major white shadow along the inner eyes and lots of black eyeliner along the outer. We already know that white nail polish is a major trend of the moment, so perhaps white eye shadows will also be hot this season.

Bee Shaffer definitely got the style gene from her mother, the infamous Vogue editor Anna Wintour. At the premiere of The September Issue, her pitch-perfect hair and makeup were accentuated by her subtle, sexy smoky eye.
The secret to this sophisticated look is the unconventional shades used.
