"I'm a total product junkie and was going to use Bare Minerals face lotion 'til the last possible drop (or until I got my next paycheck to afford yet another pricey moisturizer). Anyway, I went to Walgreens totally bummed, because I figured that whatever I did choose would probably suck, not work, or give me an allergic reaction. I chose this moisturizer because it was the cheapest, but it has delivered like no other. It totally revitalizes my face, and I can't help but take a second look every time after I put it on. how can I possibly glow and look so healthy that quickly, I think? but I do! I'm so happy I've fallen in love with a cheaper product, because my wallet is much heavier these days. Highly, highly recommended from a combo skin girl."

Reader Review of the Day: Garnier Nutritioniste Detoxifying Wet Cleansing Towelettes

There are many makeup removers on the market, from soap to soap-free to creams to towelettes. Recently, reader JaimeLeah526 tried one of the towelette variety. Garnier Nutritioniste's Nutri-Pure Detoxifying Wet Cleansing Towelettes - Oil Free ($5) supposedly remove mascara, too. But did it work for JaimeLeah526? Here's what she had to say:

"I'm a huge fan of makeup remover wipes in general, but I have to say these were amazing. They have the signature scent of the rest of the Nutritioniste line that I love and they didn't sting my face. They remove even waterproof mascara and my skin felt clean and soft after I finished. They were refreshing and cooling and I would highly recommend these, especially on a hot summer night."

Doing Drugstore: Garnier Hydra-Curls Shampoo and Conditioner

It's somewhat bunk when directions say to use a shampoo or conditioner from the same line together for best results (skincare can be a different story). But I decided to do so when trying Garnier Hydra-Curls, because at under $4 each, I could. While I highly doubt my positive-ish results were from using the shampoo and conditioner in tandem, I thought it was worth noting.

Also worth noting is the little plastic bubble on the cap. Such a small thing, but when you've been unscrewing tops and sticking your wet hand in tubs of $30 deep conditioner (thus watering down the product), it's a reprieve. The scent of Garnier Hydra-Curls kind of reminded me of free gym shampoo, but I can't argue with the fact that my hair dried really soft and wavy, but smooth. The detangling abilities of the conditioner are stellar - I barely needed to brush my hair. Eight bucks is a small price to pay for that.

Product Review: Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew Anti-Puff Eye Roller

I'm beginning to really like the concept of products that work while I'm fast asleep (and wide awake, of course). But, I'm beginning to not like the dark circles and puffiness that have made their way to the area just underneath my peepers. So, when team member jennIRL wrote to me about an interesting new depuffing product, I had to give it a whirl.

She asked, "I just saw a commercial for Garnier's Skin Renew Anti-Puff Eye Roller. This is definitely something I suffer from on a semiregular basis; have you used this product, or heard anything about it?"

So, I admit. I was a little leery of the gimmicky nature of the Skin Renew Anti-Puff Eye Roller ($13). A roller-ball wand that magically "erases" the circles and puffy undereye area? Come on, I thought. To find out how it went, read more.

Day one: The directions said to roll over about once or twice, but I couldn't help myself. I rolled a lot more because it felt amazing, like a gentle minicooling massage under the eye. Did I see results right away? Not really.
Day two: I was really just looking forward to that relaxing sensation: ahhh. Results? Yes, the puffiness was reduced, but didn't see much of an improvement for my circles.
Day three: See "day two." But - was there a slight lightening effect under my eyes or was it just my mind playing tricks on me? Hmm.

Overall, I really liked how well this product felt upon application, and how well it wears under makeup. There was no flaking, caking, or greasy feel. This product has potential, and I think it warrants a follow-up post after continual use. Stay tuned.

Beauty Secrets of Designer Alice Temperley

While we're all waiting for Alice Temperley's collection for Target to hit stores, we can steal a few beauty tips from the London-based designer's recent interview. Alice is one of those women who always looks radiant and pretty-without-trying-too-hard, and it's no surprise to discover that her beauty routine is pretty low-key and natural:

Her best secret for having smooth skin? Sweeping the entire body with a brush, then following it with Avocado Body Balm mixed half and half with Herbal Vitamin Oil. Both are by Hildegard Braukmann, an organic German brand.
She uses Ylang-ylang oil in the bath and in her evening moisturizer.
She doesn't tan! Her favorite self-tanner is Garnier Summer Body, which isn't available in the States.
Her favorite shampoo is by Klorane; she says it softens without leaving build-up.

Model of the Week: Cynthia Kirchner

It's Wednesday, which means it's time to meet BellaSugar's latest Model of the Week. Today, we're getting up close and personal with 25-year-old Cynthia Kirchner, a 5-foot-8 blond-haired beauty with stunning green-blue eyes.

Born in Hazleton, PA, Kirchner has four brothers, a sister, and a two-pound teacup poodle named - get this! - Bella. She started modeling in 2002, and in her very first week with Nous Models, she'd already booked ads Guess and Abercrombie & Fitch. She has since appeared on the covers of Cosmo and WWD, as well as in music videos for Enrique Iglesias ("Don't Turn Out the Lights") and Justin Timberlake ("Like I Love You").

Kirchner has also done catalog work for almost all major department stores, and her fabulous face has graced advertising campaigns for Express, Nautica, Redken, L'Oreal, Garnier, Target, Christian Lacroix, and Olympus. When she's not modeling she enjoys taking long walks, reading, writing, eating sushi and ice cream, and traveling to Paris and London from her current NYC residence. Cynthia is also pursuing a couple of hush-hush movie projects.

BELLASUGAR: What is your secret to beautiful skin and hair?

CYNTHIA KIRCHNER: A healthy diet and a good skincare regime. I eat a protein-rich diet with lots of raw foods like sushi, veggies, and carpaccio. However, I don't neglect carbs...I believe everything in moderation is ideal.

For my skin, I make sure to cleanse, tone, and moisturize daily and exfoliate every two to three days. I like products from France and Switzerland like Sisley and Mavala, but I use Oil of Olay as an alternative. For my hair, I wash it every other day and use protective conditioners from Kerastase.

BELLA: What is the one product that you can't live without?

CK: My eyelash curler.

BELLA: What is your guilty pleasure?

CK: Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream.

BELLA: What are your favorite drugstore products?

CK: Oil of Olay, Garnier, L'Oreal, and Jergens.

BELLA: Happiness is...

CK: When it comes to fashion, true happiness is having the perfect shoes to match any outfit. In my life, happiness is the sunshine after the rain!

L'Oréal Gets In Trouble, Again

L'Oréal isn't looking so good this week. The French cosmetics behemoth, which owns brands such as Maybelline, Shu Uemura, Kiehl's, Lancome, and Garnier, was found guilty of racial discrimination by La Cour de Cassation, the French equivalent of the Supreme Court. Court documents show that Garnier sales staff should be "bleu, blanc, rouge" - which describes the colors of the French flag but is coded shorthand for white French people. The London Times reports:

Prosecutors said that Garnier wanted to exclude members of the ethnic minorities on the ground that they would be less likely to sell its shampoo in French shops. The court was told that only 4.65 percent of the hostesses hired for Garnier’s campaign were black, Asian, or Arab. Before the BBR fax went out, the agency had been offering a pool of candidates in which 38.7 percent were from ethnic minorities, suggesting that they had been blocked during the final stages of recruitment.

The court's decision upholds a 2007 decision that also found L'Oréal guilty of discrimination. This isn't the first time the company has come under fire with regard to race; less than a year ago, there was controversy about whether Beyoncé's skin was retouched to be lighter.
