Shine Boosting Hair Serums Outfitted in Red

Have we mentioned it's red week enough times yet? Here are some of my favorite anti-frizz formulated serums that are packaged in...red! To apply: after washing and conditioning your hair, while it's still wet apply a few drops of serum starting at the ends and working your way up to the roots. After you blow dry, if you need to control any fly-a-ways, dab just a little bit into the palm of your hand and then use your finger tips to smooth out your already set hair. Keep in mind that too much product will make your hair limp and greasy looking, so use sparingly.

Don't Be Afraid to Play With Scale

In a recent interview on Dering Hall, Los Angeles-based designer Peter Dunham shared his thoughts on his line Hollywood at Home and offered excellent decorating tips.

One of my favorite tips from Dunham concerns scale - and the fact that we should consider it more carefully when decorating. Scale is just as important as pattern and color when decorating a space.

Dunham says,

In a high-ceilinged room, use an oversized chandelier. De-electrify it and just use it with candles so it becomes a piece of sculpture rather than a glaring light fixture, and it anchors the space. In a small room, choose a bold, big-pattern print and cover everything in it, the French way: walls, curtains, upholstery, et cetera. It gives the room vibrancy and glamor. Also, use large, but fewer, pieces in a small room-like a sofa that may seem too big-so it feels luxurious. In a large room, use smaller-scale pieces to create several areas and bring the space more to human scale.

I love the way that Dunham plays with scale in the room above, using a bold patterned print for the walls and matching sofa. It's an important lesson to remember when redecorating a room - keep scale a playful, and important, consideration.

If I were to wear a scarlet letter it would be T.

T for tardy. T for turd ball. T for totally inept mother.

We are late for school with such alarming regularity it’s embarrassing. The last time we were on time, after a mini snowstorm that excited my children enough to urge them into their snowsuits and outside at 6:30 a.m., we got to school five minutes early to find it dark and empty. Delayed opening. I was apparently the only mother who didn’t get the memo.

Being late for school brings up a vicious brew of conflicting emotion in me. On the one hand I just don’t care. Life is short. Far too short to risk traumatizing your children with a bullwhip and terrorizing morning walkers and squirrels, not to mention my own white-knuckled children, speeding our way to school like Toad on a motorcar bender each weekday morning.

On the other hand I am ashamed, deeply embarrassed, to be “that mom.” All the other moms can do it, even the single ones. Why. Can’t. I? What’s wrong with me?

I complained about this once to a woman from South Carolina who I met on my Guatemala trip and she told me her school started at 7:30. She also made it clear her kids were never late.

Never late.

When we say “comfy,” we mean “ergonomic.” It’s an unfriendly word for a friendly concept: basically it means “intended to provide optimum comfort and to avoid stress or injury.” Friendly, right? Besides, an awkward workspace can lead to major health issues, including disorders in your joints or tendons, so a little tweaking of your cubicle can go a long way for your well-being. Line up your body correctly by following these two principles:

Your feet should be flat on the floor and your elbows should be even with your desk. This can be achieved either through adjustable chairs or - if chairs are a hot commodity at your office - a combination of step stools and pillows.

Toddlers With Eating Disorders: A Troubling New Trend

Do I look fat? Obsessing over body image and calories to the point of disordered eating is an affliction most commonly associated with young women and the glare of Hollywood, not with the sweet young things running around the playground. Sadly though, there's a disturbing trend that's seeing younger and younger children being treated for serious eating disorders. Reporting on the results of a new study on eating disorders - which shockingly included two 6-year-olds, four 7-year-olds, and even a tot as young as 3 in treatment - doctors say that statistics like this are likely just the "tip of the iceberg" when it comes to the number of preteens actually suffering from debilitating conditions like anorexia and bulimia. Though it's nearly impossible to pinpoint one cause, doctors did say that "the pressure put on young people to conform to a certain body image could be blamed on a large number of eating disorders."

We've been hearing a lot about the childhood obesity epidemic lately, but not so much about the other end of the spectrum. Are you concerned about tots developing disordered eating?

Naomi, Liev, Sasha, and Samuel Spend a Shady Day in NYC

It was a sunny day in NYC for the Watts-Schreiber family yesterday. Liev and Sasha shielded their eyes from the glare in matching sunglasses while Samuel hung out on a stoop near their Big Apple home. Naomi let Liev take care of the boys since she was busy hitting the streets with her brother's girlfriend. The Watts-Schreiber foursome has been regularly spotted strolling around their neighborhood over the past few months, though Naomi made a public few appearances without the guys in her life. She attended the New York City Ballet's Fall Gala and is also solo inside the pages of Elle's Women in Hollywood issue. Naomi will continue to take the spotlight as she gears up for the Nov. release of J. Edgar.

Designed by Wesley Cadle, the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge at Lincoln Center is full of luxurious touches, including glazed linen walls, golden-framed artwork, and velvet upholstered furniture. The lounge, part of Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2012 at Lincoln Center, also has a rather covert, techy feature on the wall, which you can see on the right-hand side of this photo. Cadle framed the flat screen television with the same frames he used for the artwork in the room, effectively camouflaging the television. It's a great trick for minimizing a glaring tech necessity in a living room or bedroom at your home. Have you tried this?
