Love It or Hate It? Gucci by Gucci by James Franco

Between Brad Pitt's deal with Kiehl's and the release of James Franco's cologne commercial, it's shaping up to be a very hunky day. James is the star of the Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme ad, which features Róisín Murphy covering the old Bryan Ferry track "Slave to Love." It's not quite as weird as David Lynch's Gucci spot, but I can't help but giggle as James says "Gucci by Gucci" at the end. What's your take?

Knowing that David Lynch was directing the commercial for Gucci by Gucci has had me excited for months. The artsy, kooky director is a pretty nontraditional guy, so I anticipated seeing what he'd do for a perfume. And here it is: A minute-long spot featuring music from Blondie, a little dancin', and a bit that reminds me of the last scenes of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

So, what do you think? Delightfully weird Lynchian stuff, or a seen-it-before take on fragrance? At first, I thought the ad was a mess, but now that I look at it again, I think Lynch is poking fun at fashion. I like to think of it as an homage to the dancing man on Twin Peaks.

There certainly weren't as many shows as in New York or London, but all kinds of stars and celebs still showed up to support some of their favorite big name designers. Coming Soon: New Fragrances from Gucci and Karl Lagerfeld

Luxury addicts will soon have their noses in the air-not to look down on people, but to smell two forthcoming fragrances. Karl Lagerfeld, who designs Chanel, has teamed up with Coty to create a signature line of fragrances. No word yet on when it will be ready for public consumption, but if I have to, I'll track down the ponytailed designer myself to find out!

If you can't wait for eau de Lagerfeld, you'll merely have to count down until October to smell Gucci by Gucci. The new fragrance is meant for women, but according to WWD, it has notes usually found in masculine scents: Top notes of patchouli, honey and musk; middle notes of Tahitian Tiare flower, orange blossom and spider lily; and top notes of guava, raspberry and pear.

I'm not always a fan of Gucci (sometimes I think it's a little too overtly sexy for me), but I can hardly wait to check this out. Gucci's creative director, Frida Giannini, researched antique English and French perfume bottles from the '30s and '40s before designing a brown glass bottle with gold-scripted "Gucci by Gucci." According to WWD, the bottle is adorned with a gold necklace and horse-bit charm. It sounds luxurious, creative, and yes, sexy in a good way!

When Gucci by Gucci rolls out, it will be available only at Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Gucci boutiques (a few months later, it'll be available at other stores as well). A 1.6 oz. eau de parfum will retail for $80 and the 2.5 oz. size for $100. A body lotion ($48), and a shower gel ($40) complement the parfums.

And when Gucci launches a fragrance, they really launch a fragrance! Director David Lynch-he of the brilliant Twin Peaks and cult classic Blue Velvet-is directing models Raquel Zimmerman, Natasha Poly and Freja Beha in a commercial.

Gucci Goes for Round II

When you think of Gucci, you think of sexy. Alas, we welcome their latest fragrance called, Gucci Eau de Parfum II, $85. This sassy scent which has just been released has about as much attitude in it as their clothing does.

While I love Gucci's accessories and clothing, I must confess that this fragrance is too sweet for my taste. However, I do love the way the pink parfum floats encapsulated in the larger lead glass bottle.

Also, the ad campaign ties in nicely to the packaging. It features a beautiful woman who has a soft pink rim of color (the same shade as the perfume) lining the insides of her eyes.

The parfum is made from: mandarin, black currant, violet and blackberry warmed with base notes of jasmine, heliotrope and cedar wood; it is intended for someone who wants to be noticed.

You can buy a 2.5 oz bottle of parfum for $85, a 1.7 oz bottle for $65, a 6.8 oz bottle of Body Lotion for $45 or a 6.8 oz Bath and Shower Gel for $35.

Beauty Byte: Gucci Westman's New Gig

Makeup mastermind Gucci Westman rose to fame as the international artistic director of Lancôme. After leaving that position earlier this year, she's been busy with photo shoots and fashion shows. Now, she's announced her new position - and it's huge for you drugstore divas.

We already know that Revlon hasn't been doing so well lately, but now Gucci is the brand's new global artistic director. Quite a score for Revlon, in my opinion. She told Fashion Week Daily:

There's never been more pressure to deliver better product for less money. Based on my experience with Lancôme, which was really, really, great; I learned a lot about how a global prestige brand works. I realized that with Revlon, it's working with more a mass brand and a completely new consumer, but the woman still wants something she'll be happy to pull out of her handbag.

As artistic director, Gucci will develop new products, work alongside Revlon spokesmodels such as Halle Berry, and participate in Revlon's philanthropic efforts. After seeing Gucci's work (some pictured below), I have no doubt she'll refresh and revive this brand. Cannot. Wait.

It's Sexy Sixties Style at Diane von Furstenberg

Think runway makeup is all about expensive brands? Think again. At the Diane von Furstenberg show, lead makeup artist Gucci Westman used Revlon on top models like Jessica Stam and Coco Rocha. Westman has recently been named Global Artistic Director for the brand, and I've gotta say, she's already making me think differently about drugstore makeup.

Case in point: this '60s-inspired Veruschka-on-a-safari look. Models wore khaki tones punched up with a shot of bold color - in this case, a flash of yellow on shimmering black eyes. (For day-to-day wear, leave the yellow aside and instead use matte eye shadow; Westman used Revlon matte eye shadow in Rich Sable, Peach Sorbet, and Vintage Lace.) The mod lip color isn't lipstick; it's the Peach Sorbet eye shadow mixed with white Matte Lux eyeliner.

So will we see a Gucci Westman makeup collection from Revlon anytime soon? "Eventually," Westman said, adding that she's already giving input on products being made now. "Everybody is excited to bring back that iconic woman - like the Charlie girl, but a modern take on that." For now, though, I'm off to figure out how to make this whole eye-products-on-the-lips thing work off the runway.

Beauty Byte: Gucci Westman to Leave Lancôme

Of all the makeup artists out there, one of the best known is Gucci Westman. Since 2003, she's been the international artistic director of Lancôme. But that's about to change. Through a press release, Lancôme announced that this Spring's color collections will be her final contributions to the brand.

In early Spring, the Pout-á-Porter lipstick that she created with Thakoon will be out. And then it's the L.U.C.I. color collection, which will be out in January. Now, this is just speculation, but considering Gucci's star power, I'm wondering if she could be cooking up her own line. Considering how successful makeup artists such as François Nars and Jeanine Lobell of Stila have been with their own brands, it wouldn't be a bad idea.

Would You Be Into Kate Moss Hair and Makeup Products?

Kate Moss has been at the center of the modeling world for 20 years, and we've seen her as the face of all sorts of brands, from the prestigious Gucci, Dior, and Louis Vuitton down to drugstore favorite, Rimmel. Recently, the supermodel, who admits she's "not traditionally a beauty" to WWD, has just launched Vintage ($23-$53), a fruity floriental inspired by her love of vintage fashions.

But as you might know, this isn't the first scent we've seen from Kate. Her debut fragrance, Kate, was introduced in 2007. Then came Velvet Hour, followed by the limited-edition Kate Summer Time; and she's not about to stop now. In fact, Kate also has plans to create special makeup collections for Rimmel, and a haircare line with stylist James Brown is in the works. "It’s fun for me," Moss told WWD. "I still model, and I enjoy doing that as well. Working on the creative process is really interesting for me because I do know what I like, so it’s fun for me to realize that it becomes part of you.
