How to Choose Eyeglasses by Your Eye Color

There are many factors that go into choosing the right eyeglass frames. You can look to your face shape, skin tone, hair color, and of course - personality. Like I've said before, there is no magic formula. But if you're looking for some help in choosing your frames, you've come to the right place. Much like there are eye palettes to enhance your eye color, you could try employing the same technique with your glasses, choosing either a complementary or coordinating color to make your lovely eyes stand out even more. Go Beyond Brown and Black With a Colorful Eyeliner

It seems to me that the majority of makeup wearers opt for the fairly standard hues of brown or black. Pretty, but a bit boring, nonetheless. For New Year's Eve I went bold with a bright blue liner, and this got me to thinking about the rainbow of colors available beyond traditional shades.

While reds, oranges, and yellows are often saved for the runway or high fashion/high drama looks, here are some tips on how to wear shades on the cooler end of the spectrum:

Bold blue: We know that blue-based red lipsticks can help neutralize the yellow cast in teeth, and did you know that blue eyeliner can help make your eyes pop? Who wouldn't want a little twinkle, eh? Recently, I chose a deeper hue for a sophisticated look with a richer contrast, applying Wet 'n' Wild Kohl Eyeliner Pencil in Deep Blue ($1.49) to the waterline of both my upper and lower lash lines. After smudging and setting with a navy shadow, I was off for evening cocktails. My friend said I looked well-rested. Wink wink.

White: Apply white liner to the inner v and lower waterline to open eyes and brighten. Try Shu Uemura Eye Light Pencil White ($18), which has a white matte shade on one side and a pearl shade on the other.
Go green: To make hazel or green eyes pop, try an emerald green shade like Tarte EmphasEyes High Definition Eye Pencil in Green ($18).
Purple power: If you have deep brown, green, or hazel eyes, a purplish shade of liner will make them stand out even more. Apply L'Oreal Le Kohl Eyeliner in Le Plum ($7.95) and watch your eyes light up.

Eye Palettes To Enhance Your Eye Color: Hazel Eyes

Welcome to my first installment of Eye Shadow Palettes To Enhance Your Eye Color. If you have light green or hazel eyes, then you know that purple shadows make them pop. I've tried at least a dozen shades recently, and what I've discovered is you really need more than just one color to make your hazel cat eyes glow. The perfect palette is hard to come by, but I've found a few that get the job done well.

Each of these include three to four shades of just the right pinks, purples and sables to perfectly enhance your eyes. The lightest shade is the accent color that should go just beneath your brow-bone, the medium color purple goes across your lid and the darkest shade should be applied to the crease. Beauty Addicts Eyeshadow Palette in Motivate, $34, is a collection of four beautiful and rich colors from the purple family; they are: heather, berry, plum and pale pink. The beauty of this palette is that you can skip the darker crease color for day (just use as a liner) and then add plum for a more dramatic effect at night.

gloEye Shadow Trio in Amethyst by GloMinerals, $29.50, is a three color collection of eye shadows for hazel eyes. I've been using this palette for a long time and I still can't find a sable color quite like this one (the reddish color).

This high quality brand makes shadows that last. It won't crease, the colors blend easily and the palette is small enough to carry with you anywhere.

Wet n Wild Mega Eyes in Mojave Mauves, $2.99, is an easy to use palette because the colors go in order of use. Start from the bottom and apply that shade from your lid to the crease. Next apply the darkest shadow in your crease and blend well. Lastly, apply the light pink from your crease to your brow and dab just a little bit with the applicator in the inner corners of your eye.

If you want, wet the crease color and use it as a liner, or else line your eyes (top and bottom) in black. These pretty shades are long lasting, silky smooth and they won't break the bank.

Eyeshadow 101: Today's Theme is Purple

The makeup counters at department stores and the cosmetics aisle at Walgreens can be pretty overwhelming. It's super hard to know which colors to try and which ones go together. I thought I would try to help with this installment of Eyeshadow 101.

The goal of wearing eye make-up is to enhance/bring attention to your eyes. The rule of thumb is to wear the opposite color eye shadow of your eyes on the color wheel so that your eyes really stand out (or POP as they say in the make-up world).

So if you have blue eyes, you'd wear rust, coral, peach or grayish colors; if you have brown eyes, wear greens and bronzes, and if you have green/hazel (gold/yellowy) eyes, try wearing either greens, or deep purples, pinks, and rusty purples.

If you have greenish-hazel eyes, I'd go with MAC's Sable eye shadow. It is an amazing muted, golden plum brown everyday color with bronze shimmer. First apply a light pink color to the base of your lids - try Trish McEvoy's Deluxe Eye Shadow in Shell, then add a touch of the sable to the crease.

Lastly, line your eyes with Mac's Sketch Colored Eye Shadow. It's the mac daddy (no pun intended) of purples. The color is an intense burgundy-plum flecked with red shimmer.

Another great idea which I've just discovered that is really simple and great for travel because it's packaged together is glowmineral's gloEye shadow trio in Amethyst.

Or Dior's 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Sweet Illusion.

Be careful when using purples, because if you go overboard, your eyes will look bloodshot. So dust some loose powder on the corners of your eye, and directly beneath your lower lash when you are finished applying your shadow.

Emma Stone sure knows how to glam it up, doesn't she? At last night's GQ Men of the Year event in LA, the actress wowed in this subtle lavender shadow. Encircling the eyes with makeup can look raccoon-like, but Emma manages to pull it off, thanks to a light touch and a soft-toned shade. The great thing about this cooler-toned shade is that it looks great during all seasons, and it just happens to be very of-the-moment. You can look pretty in purple shadow, too. Have You Ever Worn Colored or Special Effects Contacts?

With All Hallows' coming on apace, I got to thinking about fakey colored and crazy special effects contacts. I went through a phase where I had, alternately, violet, hazel, and dark blue eyes, and while it was fun, the people around me didn't seem to think it was as awesome as I did. I've even worn special effects contacts (they were cat's eyes for Halloween) and I thought they were pretty fun. But what about you? Have you ever used something like this for an extended period of time, or even just for a costume?

As a star of The Hills, Audrina has a trademark stare, and this time her upward-gazing eyes are darkly lined. While it's smudged on top and light on the bottom, the makeup still defines her hazel color, and lighter hair helps make her peepers pop even more. Her lips are a soft pink, with a equally soft flush on her cheeks, and flowing waves make this California girl red carpet ready. Did you hope for something more or is this just right?

Seven Tips to Stop Bloody Shaving Problems

We've all done it. It's the painful moment when the razor sweeps across the skin in the most awkward of ways, causing an unbelievable amount of bleeding. While most of us are careful to prevent major cuts from happening, sometimes the nicks can get the best of us.

Since my "scrap of toilet paper" method on the nick just wasn't giving me the results I wanted (or any results, for that matter), I decided to do some research on the topic, and I've gathered together my findings here. Some are pretty common, and others are a little more unconventional. Check them out when you read more.

Clear eyes, clear legs: Apply eye drops like Visine ($8) to the nick, which will help constrict the blood vessels.
Be a witch: Using a Q-tip or a cotton ball, apply witch hazel to the irritation. This astringent will help slow the bleeding.
Write it off: For a good old-fashioned remedy, consider purchasing a Clubman Styptic Pencil ($3), which contains Aluminum Sulfate. Alum is a hemostat, which is an agent that helps stop bleeding. Or, if you prefer a product that won't touch your skin, try HemoXR ($5), a spray-on formula.
Wax on: Break out the ChapStick ($2), which will help clot the blood and act as a temporary sealant.
Tea party: Apply a cooled-off tea bag to the cut. The tannic acid in the tea helps put a halt to the bleeding.
Ice, ice baby: Listen to bad '90s rap. Kidding! But seriously folks: Just like witch hazel and Visine, ice will also help constrict the blood vessels to help stop the bleeding. Bonus? Applying ice on the legs after shaving makes them smoother and less irritated.
That's hot: And on an opposite note, try sprinkling some powdered cayenne pepper for a natural remedy. It sounds weird, but people swear by it.

I bought this eyeliner a few weeks ago. I have the black shade though since that is what makes my hazel eyes pop. I love the packaging. It makes applying the eyeliner super easy. You get great color payoff with just one stroke or you can go over the line again to make it even darker. You can also easily change the thickness of your lines by tilting the pen a little bit to the side. The staying power is great. Mine stayed put from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (that included a workout, as well). Overall, I'm pleased with this buy and will definitely repurchase again.
