Will You Use Face Paint on Halloween?

You know those all-in-one costume sets that come with pre-packed face paint, body glitter and nail decals. Halloween is supposed to be fun, but I doubt these value bag costumes are carrying high-quality goods. Heidi Klum was down for slathering face paint all over her face for the sake of transforming into a scary who-knows-what. Are you?

Halloween How-To: The Witch

Nobody says that you necessarily have to paint your entire face green to be a witch this Halloween. In fact, you can keep things simple and still get your point across. Check out Amy Castle, Hannia Guillen and Heidi Mueller from the soap opera Passions at a party at Universal Studios on Saturday. They are wearing pretty tame makeup aside from the red lips and smoky eyes.

I suggest using greens or deep purple shadows if you want to create a slightly scarier look. Also, I'd go with a paler face, black nails and black lips for the full witch effect. For step-by-step instructions and product details, read more

FACE: As opposed to choosing a foundation that matches your skin tone, you are going to want to pile on the white powder (aka white eyeshadow) to create an ultra pale, unnatural, almost chalky looking canvas. Try using something like MAC Eye Shadow in Gesso all over your face and finish with a translucent mattifying power like this one from Laura Mercier. (If you have dark skin, skip the white powder and instead, just use a translucent powder.)
CHEEKS: A bright pop of burt orange color atop a pale face looks very shocking. Try blending a color like Nars Powder Blush in Taj Mahal on the apples of your cheeks in upward strokes toward your hairline to create a striking effect.
EYES: You have many, many options for your eyes. You can create a smoky eye with a deep green eyeshadow, a deep reddish-purple shadow or by blending a black matte shadow all around the rim of your eye. Whatever you choose is ok, just remember to heavily line your eyes with a black eyeliner and finish with heavy black mascara.
LIPS: Finish by applying a matte black or cherry red lipstick all over your lips such as Cover Girl Queen Collection Lip Moisturizing Lip Color in Black Currant . If this isn't dark enough for you by itself, then line your lips with your black eyeliner pencil and top them off with lipstick for added depth and blood-red richness.

What Do You Think Will Be the Most Popular Costume This Halloween?

After seeing Heidi and Spencer's Halloween shenanigans, I'm thinking that, yes, we will be seeing lots of Jon-and-Kate pairs this Halloween, particularly because that asymmetric blond wig is selling like crazy. Also from popular culture, I'd venture to say that there will be many sparkly Edwards and Bellas (get her exact makeup look here), Mad Men tributes, and even a few zombies, thanks to the success of Zombieland.
Of course, there are always tributes to those who have passed, and perhaps we'll see some Michael Jackson costumes, complete with heavily lined eyes, light red lips, and curly wigs. Tell us what you think about Halloween 2009. Are you expecting an abundance of zombies, vampires, and/or pop stars, or do you have other things in mind?

Milk Does a Beauty Good

Heidi Klum will be the latest addition to the long list of celebrities who have appeared in the wildly popular "Got Milk?" ad campaign, Vogue UK reports. The German model and Project Runway host will be featured wearing a customary Bavarian maid outfit, alongside a milking cow - just in time for Halloween.

All this talk about this healthy, white drink got me thinking, just what is it about milk that does a body good, in terms of beauty, of course? According to the California Milk Processor Board, people have been using milk for beauty purposes for hundreds of years. Heidi Klum Shares Her Makeup Routine

Heidi Klum is traversing the press circuit, chatting about her new line of Victoria's Secret beauty products and posing with them in a completely natural, nearly spontaneous way. (Heh.) Between her makeup collection and Project Runway starting up again soon, the supermodel is well on her way to having a fantastic fall. When she talked with Star magazine, she sounded pretty upbeat.

On her must-have makeup product: [It's] mascara, because I like to bring attention to my eyes. Full lashes are like frames to your eyes and they help bring out the color. I wear it all the time, even when I go to the grocery store!

On creating the Victoria's Secret line: I've loved playing with makeup since I was a little girl and this was my opportunity to create my favorite looks.

On her daily makeup routine: Moisturizer, mascara and lip gloss. That's the minimum I wear. I keep it simple.

Halloween How-To: The Fairy Princess

While Minnie Driver decided to take her glitter makeup patterns to the extreme in her fairy princess costume, you can tone down her look from Heidi and Seal's Halloween Bash last year and highlight just one area of your face with glitter.

FACE: Make sure that your skin is nice and hydrated. The last thing you want is your skin drying out and glitter getting caught in the creases. For this look, use a heavy moisturizer or nourishing night balm as a makeup primer.
CHEEKS: Go for the glow! After you apply some light pink (think sweet-looking) blush to best suit your skin tone, feel free to get wild with your highlighter. This is the time to play around with a dewy complexion. One of my favorite products is Nars The Multiple in Copacabana. Just strike and blend and repeat as many times as you fancy.
EYES: Your eyes and what you decide to add to your cheeks are going to be the focus of this look. You can add as much or as little glitter as you like. A sparkly product I love - and which happens to be great to draw with on your cheeks with, too - is Heavy Metal Glitter Liner from Urban Decay. Line your eyes with it, and add a touch the inner corners for added dramatic flair. As for shadow, the sky is the limit. I would wear shiny silvery or blue shades on the lids and blend them all the way up to the brow.
LIPS: For your lips, you can either go with a sweet pink lipstick or lip gloss like MAC Tinted Lipglass in Prrr, or you can match your lipstick like Minnie did to the color scheme that she chose. Either way, for this look, I love how she matched her lips and her nails. That extra little bit of detail really pulls the look together!
