Last night at the fancy 2008 Costume Institute Gala in New York City, the women arrived wearing fabulous gowns adorned with sensational accessories. Some of their beauty looks were favorable, and some left little to be desired. One of the trends I noticed was the semi-laid-back approach to hair. Don't get me wrong, I am sure every strand was supposed to look like that, but there was a lot more looseness as a collective than I've ever noticed at a red-carpet event. Love It or Hate It? Hilary Duff's Costume Institute Gala Look

Hilary Duff has been growing on me lately; she comes off as cute and fun-loving. This look, however, has too much going on. Streaky highlighted hair, frosty eye shadow, too much bronzer - it's as though David Bowie's Labyrinth character was listening to early Britney while working on Hil's hair and makeup... and then sent her back in time for a prom in 1983. Hilary's a beautiful girl when she looks simple; I think this misstep proves that less is more.

Do You Like Hilary Duff Better With Baby Blonde or Dirty Blonde Hair?

Hilary Duff just lightened up. She's gone back to the baby-blonde hair that she sported as Lizzie McGuire. I liked her edgy streaks, but I'll take either of her blond looks over the dark hair she donned last year. With this new pale hair, Hilary sure does look an awful lot like her sister Haylie. Which shade of blonde do you prefer on the pop star?

Fragrance Review: Hilary Duff Wrapped With Love

Hilary Duff is getting ready to release her second fragrance called Wrapped With Love. This scent is a sequel to her first one, With Love, and it's much more playful and light as opposed to spicy and oriental.

The bottle also looks a lot like the With Love bottle, but it is a bright and fun pink color decorated with spring flowers. Inside Wrapped With Love you'll find hints of honeydew, mandarin, blood orange, plum, violet, white lily, mangosteen, raspberry, vanilla bean, musk and white chocolate mousse.

I honestly expected this fragrance to be too junior for me, but the scent is really nice. Typically when you describe something as fruity, you think of the citrus family, but this happens to smell more like a sugary melon medley. I recommend it for daytime and for spring/summer. Wrapped With Love will be available in a 1.7 oz eau de parfum spray ($38) within the next couple of weeks, and shortly following its release you can expect to see a Valentine's Day gift set that includes the same size fragrance as well as a cutesy tank top ($38). If you can put aside the celebrity aspect of the scent and focus only on how it smells, I think you might be pleasantly surprised.

Trend Alert: Hat Hair

Fab told me that hats are big these days, but I thought it would be difficult to work that look outside of a fashion show. But there they were at last night's Teen Vogue Young Hollywood party. Hilary Duff wore a floppy knit beret, Frances Bean Cobain donned a more structured hat, and web celeb Cory Kennedy channeled Isabella Blow with a netted chapeau.

Of course, certain hats go better with certain hairstyles. A beret like Hilary's is flattering on medium-to-long hair because it allows the hair to flow (it's also a fast fix when you don't feel like doing much primping). Pretty much anyone can wear a trilby, but if your hair is chin-length, pull it away from the front of your face (as Frances does) so the hat-hair combo doesn't overwhelm. Finally, there's a more formal hat, like the one Cory wears. If you choose this hat, go with an updo-the casual, flowing hair just doesn't work with such a rigid accessory.
