Love It or Hate It? Hilary Swank's Retro Bouffant

If you don't believe that big hair is back, here's pouf - er, proof. Last night at the Hollywood Awards, the always-soignée Hilary Swank appeared wearing a bouffant worthy of Ladybird Johnson. (Hers wasn't even the only crunchy-meets-sleek look of the night, just the most voluminous.) Hilary's long been known for a certain brand of demure elegance, and while this look was certainly classy, it was also a lot more formal and constructed than we usually see her hair. What do you think? Is Hilary ringing in a new style, or does her hair just look kinda like a bell?

Who ever said that glittery makeup is only reserved for the middle-school crowd? At last night's New York premiere of Amelia, it definitely wasn't Hilary Swank. Wearing an unexpected silvery-blue shadow on both her upper and lower lash lines to coordinate with her steely blue-green gown, Hilary proves that sparkling, shimmery finishes don't have to look cheesy. In fact, the cool-based shade complements her brown eyes nicely. While the general rule of thumb is to pair a bold eye with a subdued lip, I'm all for breaking rules, but when glitter is involved, less is better. For times when the sultry bedhead hairstyle or tousled beach waves aren't what you're going after, why not play up the sexy side of curls with something a bit more mellow? You can still rock a come-hither look, without going the route of the old-timey roller set-style, either. At Milan Fashion Week, Hilary Swank looked stunning with waved hair that avoided being too prim and proper. What I like most about her loose, softly rolled curls is that they're not perfectly pouffed, but they still have that sensuous factor without being too in-your-face sexpot. Hilary Swank was looking good at the Looking For Eric premiere at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. Not only does she sport a sleek updo with sideswept bangs, but she has a pretty fresh face as well. Definitely day-appropriate.

On her eyes, she wore several complementary hues from the Dior 5-Colour All-In-One Artistry Palette in Smoky Design. (Not a makeup artist? Don't worry, each set includes a cheat sheet to blend with the best of them in your bathroom.) Her peepers were finished off with a couple coats of DiorShow Iconic Mascara and Dior Style Liner Intense Liquid Eyeliner, both in black.

Love It or Hate It? Hilary Swank's Fashion Rocks Look

Hilary wore a regal purple color on the red carpet tonight at Fashion Rocks. I'll let you tell Fab how much you like her asymmetrical dress, but for her makeup she chose to coordinate the colors to her outfit. It's not an exact match - which was smart, but rather a shade or two lighter on both the lips and eyes. She also chose a shiny lip, which works with the sheen of her dress. Her hair is a bit lighter than what I'm used to seeing on Hilary, but I really love the cut and style. How much are you liking Miss Swank?

Hilary usually looks stunning on the red carpet, and she looked good tonight. Her perfectly groomed brows, her stunning lashes, and her glossy lips all looked pretty. Hilary Swank Is the New Face of Pantene Beautiful Lengths

She's already a model for Guerlain, and now Hilary Swank has signed with Pantene. She'll be promoting Pantene Beautiful Lengths, a campaign that encourages people to grow, cut and donate their hair to create wigs for women who've lost their hair due to cancer. But her involvement goes beyond appearing in print PSAs; she'll be growing and donating her hair, too.

In a statement, Swank commented on how cancer has touched her life:

"I have lost multiple family members to cancer and witnessed their struggle firsthand. I've never heard of anything quite like Pantene Beautiful Lengths, and I'm proud to be asked to promote the goals of such a unique and heartfelt program... I just hope that my contribution will help to inspire others to get involved in whatever way they can."

Talk about the kindest cut! I already thought Hilary Swank was a tremendous actress, but now I have even more respect for her. Growing her hair and donating it is a relatively small gesture, but it's one that will make a huge difference for one woman. Have you ever grown your hair to donate it?
