I think almost everything from Italy is romantic: the fragrances, the language, the makeup, the men (!), and the skin care. Fresh Italian ingredients such as virgin olive oil, grapefruit, and neroli are often used in beauty products, especially in fragrances. Italians once believed that aside from a wonderful smell, colognes also helped protect you from disease and harm.

I traveled to Italy about a month ago, and along with the fantastic food, wine and art, what really captivated me was the love of all things luxurious. So when I heard there was a fragrance called Eau d'Italie, I just had to see what it was all about. As it turns out, Eau d'Italie is a unisex fragrance that was launched in 2004 by perfumers Bertrand Duchafour, Marina Sersale and Sebastian Alvarez Murena.

In the run-up to Valentine's Day, Heineken made this ad for a beer lip gloss. Typical stuff: hot lady applies gloss, regular Joe dude kisses her (and is it just me, or does she look very uncomfortable?). I thought the whole thing was a gag, but turns out that in Italy at least, you can actually buy the stuff for just under five euros.

What do Queen Victoria, the Italian prime minister, and time travelers have in common? They're all the inspiration behind this year's achievement in makeup category for the 2010 Oscars, for which the nominees were announced this morning. I'm always a sucker for the best actress, picture, and costume design categories, but thanks to the Bella side of me, it's this little-discussed category that captures my attention.

When Patrick Dempsey launched his first scent, Unscripted, late last year, I have to admit I was skeptical of another celebrity fragrance hitting the market. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the subtle, clean scent, and even Mr. Bella — whose idea of a fun night out involves climbing mountains and camping in the woods sans showers — is a fan.
Patrick has been bitten by the fragrance bug once again.

Padma Lakshmi has that mom-to-be glow these days, and she's sporting a sleek new hairstyle, too. While we're used to seeing her with hair that's either in big, beautiful waves or swept back in a variety of updos, last night at the Made In Italy party, she went for thick bangs split in the middle. Padma's so pretty that anything, really, would look great on her, but do you think these bangs are a flattering new look, or a faux pas?

It appears Eva Mendes, who is currently in Italy at the 2009 Venice International Film Festival, has mastered the art of packing light, by using one accessory for use with multiple looks. With her chunky, jeweled headband in tow, she has already created two different hairstyles over the course of two days. Yesterday, she opted for a sexy bouffant ponytail (For a similar look, try out my stacked ponytail tutorial).

They were the low-budget films about cowboys, often produced in Italy and other European countries throughout the '60s and '70s; and they were the genre of movies known as spaghetti Westerns. Can you spot a spaghetti-Western flick from some smoky shades of eye makeup? Sure, it might be a little goofy, but that's the whole point.

Christina Ricci's Wednesday Addams look, with her coal-black braids and endlessly big eyes, will always have a place in my heart. But in real life the actress isn't nearly that goth, and lately she's been experimenting with a variety of fun reddish hues. This month, she went from a pretty nutmeg auburn at the Bruno premiere to a Summer strawberry blond at the Giffoni FIlm Festival in Italy.
