Product Review: James Brown London Hairspray

I was so excited to finally receive samples of the new James Brown London products earlier this week. James is one of Kate Moss's best friends, and he's been doing her hair for years. We've been hearing so much beauty buzz about this modernly packaged hair care collection that the suspense was killing me. That's an exaggeration, but I really couldn't wait to check it out already!

I've tried the Dry Hair Shampoo, Fine Hair Conditioner, Hairspray and Serum and so far the hairspray takes the award for star product! The hold is very gentle and it doesn't leave your hair feeling sticky or stiff -perfect for keeping post-curling iron loose waves or slightly messy updos intact. But best of all is the smell.

Most hairsprays have a strong chemical scent that makes you hold your breath for fear of toxic inhalation, but this one is better. It has a faint chemical smell, but it's mostly overridden by the pleasant bluebell smell.

Apparently bluebells are Kate's favorite flower, so they have been infused into all of the products. For whatever reason, the scent stands out the most in the hairspray.

For a useful tip from James Brown himself,

James recommends misting a little bit of hairspray onto your palms, then rubbing your hands through your hair for a natural hold. I always give my hair a light brushing after I apply hairspray because I have a strong aversion to hair that doesn't move, but if you are looking for a stronger hold, then don't brush it out once it dries. Beauty Byte: Kate Moss Co-Creates Hair Care Line

WWD reports that Kate Moss is planning to launch a line of hair care products with her long-time childhood friend and famous coiffeur-but not the late, great godfather of soul-James Brown. Brown's client list is almost as impressive as Kate's resume. He's worked on the heads of top celebs such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Gwyneth Paltrow, Gisele Bundchen and both Beckhams.

The collection will be called James Brown London, and it will comprise sixteen different products ranging from shampoos to conditioners to serums. All products are priced at £5.99 ($12.16 at the current exchange rate), except for the Intensive Mask tubes which will cost £7.99 ($16.22). The line is expected in UK stores next month.

Kate Moss directed and posed in the black-and-white ads for the line. The idea was to have simple pictures because the philosophy for the brand is simple. The prices aren't insane, the packaging is very plain and concept is really user-friendly. For example, the products are numbered according to hair type so that users will know what goes with what.

I really it like when models and celebs launch beauty products. After all, they are the ones who suffer the strains from over-processing and over-styling, so why not try something that they feel really helps them?

Does it seem naive to assume that celebrities actually use something they endorse? I don't know, but I just have a good feeling about this-maybe it's because Kate herself has financial stake in the company. Combined with her new fragrance launch, it looks like Kate the Great is becoming a real beauty queen.

Kate Moss and Jamie Hince Get to Know Their New Hood

Kate Moss and Jamie Hince were hand in hand for a walk in sunny London today. They were out for their latest walk in their new neighborhood of Highgate Hill, home to their new five-bedroom mansion once owned by the English poet William Blake. Though they bought the pad more than a year ago, Kate and Jamie needed to wait for renovations, including the reported installation of a wine cellar and gym, to be completed. It's also been rumored that Kate has designated one of the many bedrooms for the use of her BFF and hairstylist James Brown. One of the many papers that love to cover Kate, The Daily Mail, was just profiled in The New Yorker. Kate commented to the latter publication about how the Mail loves to cover her every move. In Kate's characteristic, no-nonsense manner, she explained why she doesn't mind that the paper highlights, in particular, her aging. Kate Moss told The New Yorker, "I don’t know. 'Cause it’s the Daily Mail? They just get on everyone’s t*ts, don’t they?"

Kate Moss Sees Jamie Hince and His Retro Suitcase Off

Kate Moss toted one of the bags from her Longchamp line yesterday when she left her London home with her fiancé, Jamie Hince. The duo were joined by her hair stylist pal James Brown for the outing, and it seemed Jamie was heading off somewhere with his suitcase in hand. Kate and Jamie have been hanging out in London buying furniture for their new mansion and finalizing the plans for their Summer wedding. The nuptials, supposedly taking place in early July, will be preceded by a blowout when his band, The Kills, plays at London's Carling Festival on June 24. There may be another highlight in the next few months for Kate, if rumors that she'll be on the cover of American Vogue's September issue prove to be true.

Kate Moss Reports to Work to Shoot the New Dazed Cover

Kate Moss was in head-to-toe black this morning on her way into a London photo studio with her hairdresser pal James Brown. He tweeted about their day from inside, writing, "Working with Kate and [photographer] Rankin today, doing covers of Dazed - fab." The supermodel was back to work following a fun Wednesday night, when she went out to support the debut of her friend Bella Freud's film collaboration with director Martina Amati at the Max Wigram Gallery. Kate was then off to celebrate Stella McCartney's third children's wear collection. The event took place inside a London town hall, and it was decked out with old school fairground rides. Kate said of her favorite attraction, "The waltzer was my absolute favorite as a kid - up and down, round and round, and you scream if you want to go faster. It's the best!"
